Hey, first time here. Got a LOTRLE last month that had a few issues but fixed them. One issue I cannot fix is I am having a problem with the sword lock "post" that keeps the balls in place and releases them. When the "post" releases the balls it comes up too soon, bumps the back of the ball sending it off the ramp and directly into the out lane draining it. The little plastic piece in place on the backside of the sword that seems to have been put there to keep the ball on the ramp has no effect on this outcome at all. I took apart the mech and it appears to be working normally. I changed the pitch of the machine to be a little steeper so the ball crossed the post faster and that seemed to work for a bit but the longer the game wears on the worse it gets until it just sends every single ball into the abyss. I tried lessening the pitch and that made it worse. I love this game but it's driving me crazy that I just don't know how to fix this. Hoping someone can help.

Quoted from Neal_W:

Welcome!
Make sure your balls aren't magnetized, causing them to stick together a little and not roll quickly. Others have had the same issue.
The cheap carbon steel ones are normally resistant to getting magnetized, while the expensive shinny ones will magnetize in a few plays.

Hey, thank you for your reply. I will check that out!

Quoted from Chalkey:

The plastic you're describing sounds like a piece people install to help with issues caused by magnetized balls so it may not be sitting correctly, or you may be having magnetization issues.

Hey, thanks for your reply. The plastic piece is installed the only way it can be.

Also @neal_w, thought about it and realized that this has been happening since we got the machine and I installed brand new balls in it immediately when we got it. Can the balls get magnetized within the first few games? I took those ones out anyways and put some others I had in and there was no difference, every single ball down the drain. I don't have any of the "cheap" ones so I'll have to buy some of them and try it out. I am now sceptical about magnetization being the issue but until I try it with some of these other balls I won't be able to say for sure. Really frustrating to finally get a machine I have been wanting and not be able to play it. Thanks in advance for your replies! Really appreciate the help.

Hey, okay for those trying to help me with this swordlock ball issue here is a video of it happening. Uh okay, so I just took an iPhone video of it and apparently I can't post it. Can only be a picture. Not sure how I can send a picture of this thing happening. Okay, just took some screen shots of the video. Hopefully I get them in sequence properly.

Are the sword switches registering correctly in Switch Test??

Yes, checked them. They all work

Yeah, check switches 17, 18, and 19. Make sure those are all good.

I'm sure you've bookmarked this already, but if not...Keep this on hand. I was looking to see if there were adjustments for that lock mech (see page 91 of the linked manual). I didn't see any, but I don't own an LOTR at the moment. Someone else may be able to see if there's a setting in the feature adjustment section or not.

Thank you for the link and yes, they all work. I just took the sword off and put it back on then I just adjusted the coil strength back from medium to hard and it seems the issue is resolving. The ball definitely wants to go that way but the post is no longer launching it so it is actually hitting that plastic and keeping it on the sword. We will play it more and see if it remains so. Thank you so much to everyone who helped out with this. Really, really appreciate it!!

Quoted from DANGERTERROR:

Take out the balls, set them on a table and roll one against another and see if they stick. It can absolutely happen in a few games as long as the ring is doing its job.
I have toiled with that sword lock and though all the things already mentioned should be checked and re-checked, the actual lock mech should also be rebuilt AND repositioned. You can bend it freely and shift it on loosened screws. You can def add or remove milliseconds of delay in ball release that way.
Also make sure the switch rollers are super smooth for no rollover delay.

Thanks very much for the suggestion regarding the repositioning of the lock mechanism. TBH my wife mentioned this when she looked at the game herself . So, anyways, took it apart repositioned it and now the ball is going straight down the sword, no problems. Also took the balls out and they do have a very slight tendency to stick. I'm buying those other ones. Thanks again!
