I was privileged to have the 1st Pinwoofer audio system for LotR and wanted to provide some feedback for both pinwoofer and the community here. They supported a bunch of games and just added whitestar systems to there repertoire. Let me address a few categories and I am free to answer questions.

Ordering and delivery:

I was on a prorder list, waas invoiced and paid via Paypal. System was delivered with above average packaging and transit was just a couple days. They are located in the middle of america so probably most places take 2 or 3 days. Grade A for the logistics

Install:

Install was pretty straight forward. Kit comes with 2 circuit boards that T into the driver and sound board. The power harness then plugs into auxiliary board you installed, the sound harness is not used -it is replaced with a 3.5 mm audio jack. I ordered yellow speaker risers which are a nice touch, it makes me want to add led speaker lighting. The speakers are direct replacements. It uses Pyle speakers in backbox and Goldwood sub for cabinet. It comes with a sub riser which I had a hardware issue, the existing screws were slightly to long and had to be replacedwith 1” #6-32 machine screws. Not a big deal. I ordered the yellow amplifier bracket which looks great. Run your cabling and tidy up wiring wit zip ties and all done.
Instructions were simple and easy to follow. Support was spot on.

Sound and performance:

I am very happy with their product. The amplifier gives you base and treble adjustments as well as independent control of back box and cabinet sub volumes. I can get some sweet base sounds without blasting the volume. It does sound good loud and loud enough to make my wife yell at me lol

Overall, I can’t imagine anyone could be disappointed with a Pinwoofer system. It sounds amazing and is a Huge upgrade over the stock sound.

What version is this running? Upgrading to 10.2 and adding shaker, do I need the whole package?

Quoted from pinballjj:

looks good and nice write up and pictures . I am in a precise mood today.....
OBJECTIVE: "Here is a chart comparing the frequency response of the stock system and the pinwoofer system using the stock LOTR sound files measured with microphone positioned at player position"
SUBJECTIVE : " Sounds amazing"

I guess sound is kind of subjective to a certain degree. The Pinwoofer system is pretty customizable. You can independently control the sub volume and back box volume to balance it to your taste. Likewise you can adjust the bass frequency and treble to suite your taste.

You can pump up the sub and it almost feels like you have a shaker motor. Its a quality system.

The difference in speakers is obvious, but adding in the amplifier and controls is just really nice. It uses Pyle’s in the backbox and a Goldwood sub.

Replaced my flipper coils this morning with the Med power coils from abs enterprises. Since I was there... ran all the linkages thru the ultrasonic cleaner. So far I am happy with the results, its a noticeable difference. I thought mine were fine but this is a noticeable improvement.

If anyone would like my old coils free of charge - just pay the shipping. Also have old speakers back box and sub in good condition free if you pay shipping just send me a PM.

Just picked up, there is 1 more available. Potd mod here we go. Does anyone have suggestions on how to mount the soldiers? I was thinking to use some type of stiff wire to mount to the top of the posts.

Quoted from attyrhodes:

Does anyone have a good guide for installing an nvram on LOTR?

Nvram is very easy, its just a chip swap and no solder work involved.

#6773 3 years ago
Quoted from attyrhodes:

So any whitestar video on YouTube should be fine then

Just make sure you get the right nvram. Take one chip out and replace it with the nvram chip. Its very straight forward just be careful to put in the correct way, chip has a notch on one side, nvram has notch screen printed on the little pcb.

I put in a Coin Taker LED panel. Looks great. Eye is color changing.

I used the arcade upkeep one. It dims when the game starts to reduce glare. Its kinda cool.

Quoted from Morgoth00:

I didn't have any foam laying around so until I get some ordered I tried this. A piece of rubbery shrink tubing slid over the new reinforced piece tab. When bent over, it provides a spring to it and cushions it. The rivet on the target stops the tubing from sliding inward and maintains the spring tension. Shortening the tubing will give less of a spring to it and let the tubing bend inward more. Need to make sure a light hit will still trigger the switch. Will see how it works once I finish the palantir mod.
[quoted image][quoted image]

U can get weather stripping from a home depot hardware type store and cut a small peice off and stick it on the bracket, Prob want something 1/4” thick. Your target looks like a total hack job.

Quoted from Medic:

Hello, I'm thinking of getting pinsound. I see they sell speakers as well. Should I upgrade my original speakers/sub? If so do you think I should get them from pinsound or from somewhere else? Thanks

I put the pinwoofer system in mine and it sounds amazing. It upgrades the speakers and adds an amplifier. Prob best mod to the game.
