Quoted from Propaganda:So far, from the limited number of ball time / game time submissions submitted, LOTRs average ball times are not that much longer than most games. Average ball times are are 1-2 minutes as stated by the games audits. Obviously, better players have longer games than average sometimes. And obviously again it depends how it is set up.
Under 5 minutes, is hardly a long game, taken by itself.
On the other hand....
If a tournament director wants to maximize coin drops and payouts for prize money, obviously they want as many ultra short ball time games as possible.
As usual, money is the whole motivation for everything. Forget about how good the game plays. Get those 4 players off that machine so more coins can be inserted!
If not, why not just have a tournament with FEWER longer ball time games? I suppose that is out of the question because money is the whole motive.
Have you ever run a tournament? I doubt it very much.
I run the tournaments in New Zealand and am the tournament director in Auckland.
There are a few machines I don't like to have in tournament and they are the ones that are always holding up the tournament waiting for players to finish and the top of that list is LOTR. On the few occasions that we have had to use it (when we have over 80 players in the comp) it is set up so brutal that everyone complains. That doesn't mean we don't like the game, as I said, I love it but it is definitely not a competition pin.
And for the record, all our meets are in private homes with machines on free play so there is no coin drop. We also do not charge to enter our comps so money is not even a factor. The overriding factor is time. No one wants to be still playing the comp at 1am.
