Hey all, I’ve got my sights set on a routed LOTR...it’s got about 3500 plays on it, kinda dirty, bit of shooter lane wear and the shire vuk guard is busted. Any thought on value? Does anyone make a replacement vuk guard? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thinking about picking up an LOTR. What’s a good price on a low play huo these days?

#7007 3 years ago

Really? For a stock one...no leds,no led ocd, no color dmd, no mods?

Quoted from Jarbyjibbo:

I would expect to pay about $7500

Just picked up a clean HUO LOTR that had been sitting Unplayed for a number of years. I just rebuilt both flippers as they both needed it and the right flip is still pretty weak compared to the left. Should I start by replacing the cabinet leaf switches? Or replacing the EOS? It’s a 2004 run on v.10. This is not a heating issue so I’m not popping in those overpowered pblife coils.

Haha yeaaaah, It could use it I guesssss

Quoted from DeathHimself:

I would look at the EOS first, after that fix maybe a Pinsound

Rumors with no truth unfortunately. I’d love to see this game updated with an LCD but with Sterns backlogs, New Line licensing issues and new games coming I don’t think it’ll ever happen. If they ever do get around to it’ll definitely be premium + / LE pricing. Stern has not produced a game this packed since...well...they released LOTR. Whitestar was their golden era if you ask me.

Rumors of a vault edition are brewing

Just got myself an LOTR and on the second day the game just starts ejecting balls endlessly on power up. The prob started by occasionally launching an extra ball into play. I pulled the trough, cleaned optos and it seemed to help but now it’s way worse. Anyone have any thoughts? Or should I just order a new set of trough opto boards? Thanks for the help!

Quoted from glpinball:

Fuses all good?

If the fuse was bad all the switches in trough would be out.

Quoted from Neal_W:

If your worried about the trough, start with the switch test. Remove all the balls and add the balls 1 at a time. Anything unusual with the switches seen? If you knock on the playfield or flip the flippers, do you see any changes with the trough switches during the above test of adding 1 ball at a time?
I can't imagine why a bad trough switch would eject balls after power up. I would start at the beginning. Measure the power supply test points. Any battery leakage seen?

I did switch test, all switches seem fine. Was playing closest attention to the ball jam opto and that also seemed ok…although it did flash quickly every time a ball came through but did not stay open.

Thinking it could be a bad diode in the trough or a short on some other switch causing it to go haywire. Will do the bang test tomorrow

So…I’m getting endless multiball ONLY in Fellowship Multiball. Seems like the ball save is active for a very long time and then the trough just tries to kick out balls endlessly after ball save light goes out. I previously had trough issues and replaced the ball jam optos which corrected the problem. This almost feels like it’s a weird code issue to me as I have no other trough issues at any point in the gameplay. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you definitely roasted a transistor on the solenoid board

Quoted from glasairpilot:

OK, need to tap into the brain trust here. I reinstalled my flipper coil diodes and made sure they were installed in the correct direction (have no idea why pinball life says to remove them) and flippers would not work. Checked both flipper fuses and they were blown. Installed new fuses and as soon as I shut the coin door the flippers actuate and stay actuated. I'm thinking I blew something in the power driver board. Any thoughts where to start looking? All other coils and flashers work when testing them.
