We are excited to be a part of the club today. After a few games, we got a bunch of errors and none of the VUK are working. Anyone have an idea about the following switch errors:
1) Balrog hit
2) 4-ball trough #1 (left)
3) Balrog open
4) 4-ball trough #3
5) 4-ball trough #2

I greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks

Quoted from Adaminski:

Here is some reading (from my bookmark list, including one of my posts) to get you started on Balrog and VUK switches (Gimli is same as Shire).I have not messed with trough issues.
Balrog switches:

If Balrog doesn't return correctly, or keeps trying to close, or goes back and forth, there is a board underneath that must have some solder reflowed:

There is a summary post somewhere on pinside showing the PCB - I think there is a similar problem with DE Jurassic dinosaur.
Balrog light:
While you've got the Balrog open, see if the LED conversion has been done. If not, get the 44 socket, install, and get the correct red LED lamp.

Adaminski,
Thanks for the extensive thoughts on potential issues. After reading through all of it, I found fuse F8 to be blown. I replaced it and then it blew immediately upon restart. Any thoughts about what this might be? I appreciate the help.

Bridge rectifier B3 bad possibly?

How do I test the rectifier?

Still getting our pin setup and working as expected. Anyone have any idea why we would get random auto launched balls? There seems to be no reason for it. Appreciated any help, thanks for the support.

Quoted from DCFAN:

Trough opto board problems. Try reflowing the solder on the boards. If that does not work they are not expensive to replace. Pinballlife usually has them.

Is this the opto trough board?

Quoted from Chalkey:

Too many balls in the trough will cause continuous ball launches. If it's intermittent it is likely an opto / trough switch problem. Check wiring, opto alignment /switches and clean the optos with a q tip and rubbing alcohol. There should be a trough clear in the diags menu that displays where it thinks all the pinballs are and you can check that against where the balls are in reality.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed last night that when the pin was on and not being played, it would randomly launch one ball about every 30 minutes. Does this sound like an opto trough board issue, or just a really cool attract mode?

Any ideas what would cause the game to randomly go to attract mode in the middle of playing a ball? This happens rarely, but it is extremely frustrating. There seems to be no pattern of switches or modes that cause it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Does anyone have a reliable fix for pinballs settling into the Barad-dur saucer? Mine pops out if hit with any speed at all and it leads to frustration. I’ve heard about putting in foam, but where would this go? Thanks in advance for the help.

Quoted from chubtoad13:

Before adding foam; what pitch is your game at? I would try making it a bit steeper to see if that makes a difference. If that doesn’t change anything make sure there isn’t something that is causing the bounce back. The coil assembly might not be seated correctly or a guide could need adjustment etc

Thanks for sharing your experience with fixing the Barad-dur saucer. I have the pitch at 6.5, are you running greater?

Quoted from chubtoad13:

Mine is about 6.5 as well. I was just throwing out ideas. I personally haven’t experienced any issues with that shot. Maybe a picture would help show what’s wrong?

Don’t know if this gives any detail about the ball reject issues, but thanks for taking a look.
