I was SO close to Valinor tonight. I collected every elf gift, nearly beat TABA, beat TT, two characters away from beating FOTR, and really close to finishing ROTK. Score was 243,425,460.
FML, this game keeps me coming back for more, even when it hurts me...

Quoted from nicoga3000:

Cool - I'll check on everything tonight. The LED board for the rings is missing, so that's going to set me back ~$100, but it is what it is, ha. That information was NOT disclosed when I bought the game from Classicpinball.

If you really did nab this for less than the cost of a NIB pro, you made out like a bandit.

I tried to PM you what I paid, but PM's aren't working.
That said, if anyone here has ANY thoughts on the issue in this thread, you'd be amazing.

If you haven't done so, try reseating your sound rom chip. You can just pry it up with a very small screwdriver. Game off, of course. Be careful not to bend the legs re-inserting the chip. If you need a new set contact John Wart.

Quoted from nicoga3000:

Hey guys - got another question.
How important is the plastic on the Shire VUK? Mine is broken and I don't feel like buying a new set. I may make my own when I try and make my own slings, but if it's not a major "must have" plastic, I'm not going to bother.

Every now and then mine will take a hit from a ball off of the ramp. So I'm hesitant to throw a new one on there anyway. Mine is broken at the bottom and I haven't bothered to replace it.

As the new owner of a LOTR I am putting together a list of mods that I would like to purchase. High on the list is the addition of a shaker. I purchased the PAL chip from Pinbits. I have read the threads on the Forum about adding the shaker. I have one question I hope some knowledgeable person on this site can answer: My game was built in early 2004. I know about the PAL chip and the LE version of ROM's but do I need this "Bootflash U7 EPROM" that Pinbits mentions? It was not covered in the Pinside write-up for installing the shaker. Thanks for any help the Pinside members may provide. JLC - Cincinnati, OH

You need 10.02 rom, shaker rev b, and the pal chip. I highly recommend the shaker. Here is a thread on it:

Finally!!! After close to two years of missing my membership card to this club... Lord of the Rings is in the house!!! It's not the same one I sold, but it's in really good shape, and plays fast and loose. Color DMD, LED OCD, and a few other tidbits. It's gonna be a happy night!!!

I need to show you guys some granny porn pics of my rough shooter lane, worn shire, and smooth heels of the lockdown bar. Hey, just because it's well used doesn't mean it doesn't have sweet action!

Quoted from Eskaybee:

Is there any tweaks or fixed for the gandalf shot? Mine gives a klunky return from the right side. I seem to remember every LOTR I've played had this klunk like feeling on that shot.

You might try just tweaking the level of the game. Slightly steeper/flatter and left/right. Mine is not 100% consistent but is pretty smooth.

Question about getting to "There and Back Again." Had a great game going - got through all of the modes, so they were all dimly lit / flashing. Got to "Destroy the Ring" but failed to destroy the ring. Next ball, I put the ball back into the ring two or three times, but it never turned on TABA. Am I missing something? Mode Start was lit, but still - nothing when I hit the ring shot. How do you turn on that mode??

You have to collect the elf rings by the actual lit elf shots before TABA. The ring shot doesn't collect Elf rings for TABA.

Do many of you have mirror blades? At least on my machine, there is very little clearance to install them.

I have gold blades in mine and they look amazing. There are a few scratches in them though.

What flipper coils do you guys have in yours? Mine are the same number as the PBL LOTR coils and they throw the ball a little too fast. Just curious.

Quoted from stoptap:

Sorry about the delay.
You can change the settings that finely control the flipper timings.

There are a few topics about LOTR flippers on Pinside. It has been well covered.

I recently did a partial rebuild and my flippers were over the top strong. I looked back at my flipper settings and I had messed with those at some point. I reset those to default and now mine are playing just right again with stock coils.

One of my favorite things about this pin is how you can have a craptastic game and then you destroy the ring and feel like a total bad ass. If I post my game for sale please pretend to want to buy it and come kick me in the nuts. I will thank you later.
Sincerely,
Hougie
