Quoted from DaveH:

LCD. I've installed a few LED ones and a bunch of LCD. To my eyes the LCD kicks it hands down. There is something about the LED that makes it look out of focus to me. Like each color shifts inside each pixel of the display.
LCD all the way. And it happens to look fantastic in LOTR.

Quoted from Jarbyjibbo:

Are they missing or broken? If not, can't you just replate them?

That is exactly what I want to do. But according to Pinball Plating there is no timeline for getting these items back. I don't want to have my LOTR out of commission indefinitely while these are getting plated.

I have an extra set of the metal ramps now and I will send them to Pinball Plating to get plated. Once they come back I will swap them with the ones on my game and send that set to Pinball Plating so that he has a permanent set of ramps. He can get them plated and when they come back someone else can swap their ramps out. Pinball Plating is doing this now with LOTR swords. It will be better once he can do the ramps this way as well.

To be clear I have the solid metal ramps I am still looking for the wire forms above. I know they are called ramps too but that confuses me. It would be great if they were called something else like multi strand metal wire elevated ball conveyances. Sure it is a lot to type or say but I wouldn't get them confused with the aerial plastic molded ball conveyances or metal ramps.

Quoted from PtownPin:

I am looking for the long red plastic piece thats installed adjacent to the shooter lane (see attached photo). If anyone has one for sale please shoot me a PM.
Thanks

I have a used one that I am willing to part with. It is still in pretty good shape.

Update: I put an extra set of ramps in the mail to Pinball Plating so they will have a set for exchange to limit the downtime on your LOTR if you want a brass plated set. - Hopefully soon.

Still looking for these two

Quoted from DANGERTERROR:

Are LOTR playfields around at Stern distros or are they getting scarce? I'd like to pick one up with better color registration at some point... Not sure what my options are, but I figure it's a relatively recent, popular game so Stern had to make a bunch of PFs.

How do you know if your pf has the better color registration?

#1927 6 years ago

are there any good mods available for the naked bulb behind the Rider at the back right of the PF?

#1929 6 years ago

Just like the naked lit and jackpot bulbs on the Player Piano in TZ this bulb screams out for something more.

#1932 6 years ago

Is it supposed to signal anything or just flash from time to time with the rest of the flashers.

#1939 6 years ago

Instead of a red bulb what about something similar the to Batman signal that flashes a shadow image of the ringwraiths in full gallup on the side of the cabinet? It could even be in red. With a little logic it could flash like lightning strikes.

In the Manual it calls out that the LOTR has (1) Groove Jewel Plastic Post what I call a star post.
I can't find one on my machine. Where does this go?

Quoted from hawknole:

I just have 2 crystal clear rubbers on a longer screw at the end of my POTD and am very happy with the way it works. I have taken them off twice and missed them both times and quickly put them back on. As a side note, I am also using the Arwen clear ramp and the ball still goes down the ramp into the Shire on occasion.

Could you post a picture of your setup that you described ? Both the 2 crystal clear rubbers on a longer screw at the end of my POTD and the clear ramp. I am having a hard time picturing how this would work.

#1957 6 years ago

Now I understand double rubbers.
Thank you!

Does anyone have any shopout or top side tear down pictures? This games been routed and I can tell they improvised in certain areas. If I can understand how items are supposed to be assembled I can fix mine. Ideally an album on Dropbox or something

It isn't complete but here is what i have from my recent rebuild

Quoted from Jappie:

Ok, I guess my love for this game is getting a bit crazy. I just bought a NOS playfield for my LOTR. Purely because I got excited for the fact that I saw one available. Complete impulse purchase. First NOS playfield I ever bought. It wasn't cheap, and I'm not a millionaire. And the playfield in my LOTR isn't even in very bad shape or anything.
I think I might need help...

I did the exact same thing. Now I have an LOTR NOS playfield I don't know what to do with as well as a complete set LOTR miniatures. To paraphrase Bob on DI, "Crazy!"

Did not want to hijack the thread, but just got Silly Old Elf's Side Art Blades for LOTR.
Fantastic quality and artwork! I highly recommend them to anyone looking to dress up their cabinet sides!
Hijack over...

Pictures please

Quoted from Junglist:

Nevermind I see that stern EOS are closed by default and that's normal behavior. For what it's worth the ramp and spinner look to be fine.
Ultimately I guess the question is how hard should this shot be? Does it need everything to be just right or should it hit the ring and work like 65%+ times you launch it off the ramp ?
Any other tips on power are appreciated - is it worth playing with the flipper adjustments #53?

Can't say what the designer had in mind but I expect all reasonably powered balls to make the shot. In other words, this shot shouldn't fail very often. Say less than 10%.
