A metal file?
Interested in some guidelines or ref as mine as also these bubbles

I'd probably use a dremel with proper attachment over a file but I guess that would work too.

Has anyone else had an LED fail on the Elf/Dwarf/Man board? I'm thinking that LEDs are pretty reliable so it's probably a solder joint with the connector.

Yes, I had 2 Elf LEDs fail on me. I replaced all 3 of them. It wasn't due to a solder joint or connector.

Yes have 2 broken Elf LEDs, reflowed solder but still broken. Will replace all 3 Elf.

I replaced the broken LED but it was brighter so I replaced all three.

Will do the same. Its 5mm 12V LEDs right?

The black and red wires in the connector are feeding 5V DC so 5V 5mm LEDs, I believe.

Quoted from jdroc:

Yes - they get beaten up pretty bad but you can (and should) use a metal file to get them smooth again. If not, they'll throw shots off line and make the ring shot harder to hit

So I'm aiming for a smooth blob?

#5660 4 years ago
Quoted from insx:

should be no blobs - here's a pic from Pinball Life showing what a new one looks like - nice and flat.

Got the new (correct) flipper switches installed and they work perfectly. Thanks again FatPanda for steering me in the right direction.

Was there ever a good solution for stopping fast balls flying off the left ramp? I did a search and saw several people ask the question but I didn't see any answers.

Yes. Make a plastic deflector attached to the POTD. Goes just past the switch.

Image 12 in the gallery shows it.

Thanks pjj! Looking at these pics... Was it difficult to access the lower right hex screw on Orthanc? My LotR has just Gandalf, but you have the version with Gandalf on Shadowfax. Do those figures get in the way of getting a nut driver in there?

Really like these shire ideas. I think it needs to be in front of the VUK on the clear plastic. Going over the wireform looks cool, but might obstruct the playfield too much, IMO. I guess it doesn't really obstruct anything critical, though

#5675 4 years ago

easy install ,my nut driver is too long for that spot so used just a 1/4"" closed end wrench to tighten the nut , a socket on a ratchet would work as well ,whatever tool is used it is not a big deal for just one bolt

the shire area is a work in progress with the one before the VUK you can still see all the essentials like the shire target and the orbit and ramp shots etc , I think the ball in the vuk might be obscured.

to my eye making something that would look perfect for that area might require some alterations to the whole vuk arch and vertical plastic piece but that would require a level of bravery that I do not have!

I did the same in my TSPP. I contacted Marco for better instructions. I used their tube LED. It works great now.

Just realized there’s a bulb under the sword behind the lock. Must be burnt out as I’ve never seen it on. Is it a GI bulb? The big incandescent one.

Pretty sure those are exclusive to Retro Refurbs. That’s where I bought mine. Not cheap for sure with shipping but they are the best IMO. They compliment the game perfectly. Better than any others I have seen.

Installed my Orthanc tower mod today. Amazing mod btw.
While doing so, I found this little one in my cab. I looked everywhere, but could not figure out where it broke off from. Anyone any idea?

Hard to tell, is that plastic broken?

It kinda looks like part of a plastic near the right (Baradur?) tower, next to saucer kickout. Or possibly part of the one that is under Saruman?

There is a plastic list in the manual page 67. You might be able to look at that and tell.

#5695 4 years ago

Right side (the curved side) is broken. It is darkish green. I looked at the manual, and I cannot find anything close to this.

Ugh. So frustrating. I started all 3 movie multiballs and then Destroy the Ring began! I’m pumped. Ready to finish this in 15-20 seconds. My best is 1:15, nothing too exciting. I make the 4 shots right away without a miss, very rare for me, AND I hit the ring shot the first time so “Gollum has the ring, help me!” Starts. Just 10-15 seconds had gone by. I just need to hit the ramp ONE MORE TIME to destroy it, possibly at around 20 seconds which I have heard people do. So ready to post my time! I missed the first 2 shots, but the third was perfect! Straight through! Only, nothing happened. “Help me!” cried poor Frodo. A second shot thru the ring. Nothing. Now 30-45 seconds have passed. Then a minute. Now I’m past caring. 2-3 minutes and a third shot thru the ring. Nothing. Wtf. Grrrrrr. I guess my optos are needing cleaning or adjusting? I keep this pin very clean. So frustrating. Like the game is laughing at me.

#5697 4 years ago

change the switch at the right behind the ring. This one fails and creates this issue..

#5698 4 years ago
Quoted from BENETNATH:

Yup, had that problem with mine not too long ago as well. I only had to adjust mine though, not replace it. That switch literally has one job to do in the entire game and that's to register the last shot for Destroy the Ring.

Me too, I just bent mine down a bit and tested it by running a ball through it. I think my best time is thirty point something seconds and that's on the harder two ball setting.
