Anyone into building Lego here? I built a bunch of big sets a few years ago like the Death Star and Tower Bridge, but ran out of room very quickly and sold most of it off. The latest Bricktober sets got me back into it. I love micro scale. I recently ordered the 8 Bricktober sets, Minecraft micro sets, and and The Louvre.

Favorite set of all time is the Mini Modulars. Any recent good detailed sets I should look at? I don't really like the playsets that are very spread out. Considering a Tower of Orthanc or Metal Beard's Sea Cow before they go out of print and become stupid money.

A couple of years ago, I got into Lego.
Mainly went for the larger sets
I like the large modular buildings, pity they only bring out one per year

#3 8 years ago

I wish the older modular buildings weren't stupid money. Would be nice to maybe get some of the best ones one day, but I'm the last person who's going to spend $500 on some Lego set just because it was retired. I just stick to the new stuff.

#4 8 years ago

I just found some of my old ones while cleaning out my parents basement. I'm going to rebuild the old castle/knights and put it on top of my MM.

#5 8 years ago

Missed out on Cafe Corner and Green Grocer
Got the rest
I also don't mind the UCS large Star Wars sets
The B-wing is great

Been a LEGO fan since childhood. In fact, I still have my first set, the classic 487 Space Cruiser!

have had lego stuff all through my years, and my kids love to throw it around the house. We have bins of Lego sets, parts, pieces.
Right now I mainly buy new sets and keep them in the boxes stored in a closet. I've bought 5 Ghostbusters cars (my goal is 11) I think this set will sky rocket in the coming years, like the Back to the Future one.
Too many sets out on the market, some very pricey, hard to buy them all but so many cool ones.

#8 8 years ago

You could say I'm into LEGO. Somewhat of an obsessive collector would be more accurate.
Over 1,000 sets, all near mint in box. Many from my childhood... many more purchased as an adult.

Technic, Expert Builder, 80's Space, Pirates, Trains, Model Makers, etc.

#9 8 years ago

I have a lot of the LOTR sets. My wife got me the Tower last Christmas.

#10 8 years ago

Definitely into Lego here. Last larger set I built was the Fairground Mixer. 9 year old daughter just built the Haunted House to display above the TV for Halloween. Also, just picked up the Parisian Restaurant before it retires with VIP points. Still have my sets from childhood and let my kids play with them. They also play with my figures from when I was younger like TMNT, Star Wars and Ghostbusters. I never saved my toys for resale figuring my kids would get some enjoyment from playing with them(that doesn't mean I won't save theirs).

Luckily, Hollywood has run out of ideas for new films/characters and keep rehashing the same stuff from a lot of our childhoods and keep things relevant. Now you can share with them as well with Lego sets like the DeLorean, Ecto 1 and soon the Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ. Not sure how long their license for Ghostbusters will be for but the Ecto 1 should definitely do well once retired. It's a great build and the minifigures should be different from what will come with the HQ set(75827).

Hardest thing that I find with my kids and legos is that none of them agree on building. My oldest hates building sets with instructions and only builds freestyle(creates some incredible things too), my daughter only wants to build Friends themed sets or holiday themed sets with instructions, my 7 year old son only wants to build difficult sets with instructions(he's been building Lego 8 years+ sets by himself since he was three) and my 5 year old hates regular Legos and only likes to freestyle build with his Duplos and Toy Story figures. So, you get everyone wanting to do their own thing unless you trick them into playing a game where you all just sit around the table and take turns calling out something to build and then spend the next 15 minutes creating your best version of the subject matter. Definitely a fun thing to do.

#11 8 years ago

I love lego. I build the modulars and some of the ships. Just finished the Parisian Restaurant over halloween. I do some lego investing too, I have several town halls and haunted housed that have more than doubled in value.

#14 8 years ago

Way to go, guys. You talked me into buying an Ecto-1 set.

To be fair, I think the bug was already biting. My son has gotten into the small sets, and I've found that I really enjoy building them for him.

I did use Lego bricks to build the frame for a Rubik's Cube solver a few years ago, but until now, I've never really gotten into the sets.

You will soon have the Ghostbusters fire station to house that ecto http://www.techtimes.com/articles/100429/20151028/heres-your-first-look-at-the-official-lego-ghostbusters-firehouse-headquarters-due-in-stores-in-january-2016.htm

Another huge Lego fan, in fact we just took the kids to Legoland over the Halloween break. If you've never been, they have scale models of famous cities and landmarks all made from the bricks. Attached are a few shots of the London one. And it's very dynamic. Buildings light up, trains and vehicles move, etc. They also had a Star Wars miniland with major scenes from the movies recreated and life-size figures made from millions of bricks you can walk through:

I still have most of the Lego sets I got as a kid. I prefer the Technic sets. I have the RC bulldozer, RC excavator, RC front end loader, the crawler crane, 8 wheeled crane and s a few others. I picked up the creator ferries wheel cheap off Craigslist a few months back and just built it. I'll probably buy the Saturn rocket. Good stuff.

#21 6 years ago

I built Legos as a kid. Now my 5 year old is obsessed.

He loves the City stuff and Mixels.

Damn things are so expensive I have been tracking down used sets at garage sales and he scored pretty big for his 5th birthday last month.

He built that police station in 3 hours unassisted except for the decals. I was pretty impressed.

We are working through the fire department now together.

Lego is the best. I mostly free build now. Here's a couple pics of some of the little things I've got on my office shelves:

I also like rubix cubes. I made two lego cubes and sold one on ebay to cover the cost of mine. I wanted to differentiate mine from another so I threw in the space man in the pics. Unfortunately he met with an untimely death that cut the photo shoot short.

We need a lego themed pinball!

#30 6 years ago

I'm sad I missed this thread until today!

I'm super into LEGO as well. Next pickup will be the huge millenium falcon for sure. Sometimes they come out faster than I can buy/build them.

How about a pinball you can build out of Legos?

#32 6 years ago

I still have all my Legos from the 1970's, hadn't made anything since my daughter was little. But then I was given the KISS figures so I had to bust out the tub! It was fun, like riding a bike!

#33 6 years ago

When this started happening I lost interest in Lego's

#34 6 years ago

A little ironic this thread got bumped. I never was into legos as a kid. In fact, I was the kid like Emmit (lego movie - btw that movie is epic brilliance!) that would build the stupidest shit without instructions or patience. But, my 4 year old loves the lego movies and playing with legos. He's nowhere near a master builder nor understands that portion yet, we've only built junior lego pieces for him so far.

That said, the other day my wife bought him a real lego builder that he's been asking forever and I had a blast putting together my first lego 500+ piece lego. My kid lost patience quickly in the build but absolutely loves the finish product. Hopefully he'll take a liking to the build process soon cause I had fun building this (disclaimer: one or two pieces may be missing now cause I took this picture for this thread a day or two after my son was playing with it LOL). I give you my first build, the bat mobile

IMG_0527 (resized).JPGIMG_0527 (resized).JPGIMG_0528 (resized).JPGIMG_0528 (resized).JPGIMG_0529 (resized).JPGIMG_0529 (resized).JPG

Edit: I just noticed the top hatch is missing where you put batsman and robin in the cockpit. Great feature of the bat mobile that my son loves where you can flip open the hatch and it flies off.

My son just turned 5 and has become super interested in Legos. He always liked puzzles so this seems like a natural extension. Only issue is that he is capable of tearing through sets in what seems to be record pace and it is starting to get to very expensive.

We are going to Brickuniverse today at 10am. I will snap some photos.

I got my daughter a Harry Potter, hogwarts castle by the lego knock-off company called lepin from China. This set is over 7000 pcs and pretty intimidating to look at while apart. Well over 100 bags of stuff. ECD2F9FB-9122-4C77-9697-958B54F30065 (resized).jpegECD2F9FB-9122-4C77-9697-958B54F30065 (resized).jpegAF54ECA7-3D02-44CC-95B2-15F8AF421F88 (resized).jpegAF54ECA7-3D02-44CC-95B2-15F8AF421F88 (resized).jpeg8AB29CF5-3523-4B77-B1E9-8597F2E5C7B8 (resized).jpeg8AB29CF5-3523-4B77-B1E9-8597F2E5C7B8 (resized).jpegThe instructions are more like a novel then a book, coming in 2 parts with about 800 steps to build. The quality looks impressive compared to lego. I watched some YouTube reviews before I bought this, and the biggest complaint I found was that the stickers aren't as good as lego brand ones. I didn’t notice anything wrong about them. Over all I’m pleased with the lepin product. I’ll keep you posted when it’s all done.

Please don't claim that some Chinese knock off is anywhere near the same quality as Lego. It may be impressive considering the price but Lepin is not paying anything for development other than purchasing a Lego set to copy.

Great to see appreciation of Lego on Pinside.

I grew up with Lego and loved it, I'm very happy to see how popular it now.

Watched LEGO Masters tonight and enjoyed to concept and show, I think it will only get better.

I am unsure if this has been done overseas as yet ? The show has just started here in Australia.

It would be amazing to see a full sized and operational Pinball machine made from Lego

I posted this in the Arcade and Video Game group, but thought those following this thread might enjoy seeing it too.

Like anything Lego it's expensive, but I thought this was pretty cool and wanted to share with the video game forum:

Per the release, "with authentic reproductions of the original console, controller and Game Pak cartridge, plus a retro-styled 1980s TV, the exclusive new LEGO® Nintendo Entertainment System™ gives fans of Super Mario Bros.™ a way to recapture childhood magic."

Coming August 1st, 2020. I hope they make other retro gaming systems as well...
