Some of the best modern games have "Launch Buttons" instead of the classic spring launcher... Medieval Madness, Attack From Mars, Monster Bash are games I love - but not because the game designers decided to spare my wrist some stress by giving me an automatic ball launch.
In fact, I would argue that a game where the player controlls the velocity of the launch is that much more compelling. Isn't Pinball all about that "analog feel" - and trying to influence wher the ball goes and at what speed?
I wonder if they simply thought it was a "cool new gimmick" and would help market the game in the arcades.
Wouldn't any pinball game be better with a manual launch? Is their something I'm missing?
