I am going to look at Elvis.
Any common problems?

#76 7 years ago

I am looking at a HUO from a very reliable seller. (he made a custom Rush pinball hint, hint)
I just like to know where to pay special attention or find out if some parts break commonly that may be hard to find.

Can you change the music similar to Metallica? It would be nice to program in Frank Zappas 'Elvis has just left the building' for the end of play cycle.

I am learning Elvis a few games at a time.
I really notice the lack of light coming through the right ramp.
At least the left has good lighting. The right looks like elVIS as the top letters don't get much light coming through.
Who has addressed this?

#88 7 years ago

Today marks 1 week with Elvis 'in the building'. I managed to complete all 5 modes but couldn't manage to get to Graceland. Also spelled jailbreak and couldn't capitalize.
Damn this game is hard (3 ball).
Although I am way closer to finishing Elvis over my other title (Nascar) that I have had over a year.
I have new rubber on the "to do' list.
Any spots that then to be difficult to get at?
Also I am going to go with the harder hotel and open up the top exit ramp.
I get quite a few airballs to the top of the TCB plastic over the targets. Not anywhere else though.... I am going to have to have a good look at the C target. Seems to be the hardest to get/register (hope it's just some dirt).
Wife is crabbing that the dog has a really long post and doesn't pop high enough for her taste (hopefully some more cleaning maybe a little lubricant).
Otherwise, looking forward to a colour dmd in the future. Leery about how the dmd Elvis footage may look (going to have to see it in action or have programming to move the dmd to Nascar if it doesn't work out).

I was thinking graceland or vegas skyline....
Nice.
Looks pretty tall.
I don't have that kind of ceiling space.
I have 6.5" of clearance.

I am wondering which dmd upgrade will look better
Color dmd or a high res non color
The dmd video looks pretty grainy and the fade out lack of the back of the head could make some work for a high rez.
Either way I am going to need to see some pics of both options before I upgrade.

One of my buddies from work just went to Vegas last week and brought me home the Las Vegas sign (pre-mod) desk paperweight.
Now I just have to mount it and hook it into the G.I.
Not bad for $17.50....

#102 7 years ago

Looks like a repurposed belt buckle.
Love the instruction/pricing cards.

#105 7 years ago

Has anyone out there swapped out the coin cards on the fromt of the coin door?
I was considering swapping them out to T C B with some background lightning.
With them being red I really don't know if it will look good.
Would prefer to see a pic or 2.
Looks like quite a bit of disassembly to get at them.

#106 7 years ago

Had a co-worker go to Vegas. He picked this up for $19.
A little cutting, drilling a hole and soldering some cat hair wire and bingo.

Thanks, i didn't bother with the 5v and had my tech just hook it to the GI.
Now I can get it chasing correctly.
Didn't think to look to the tourney wiring.
Besides, it took a good hour of mucking about to get it all wired correctly.
I pulled a PF bulb from under the plastic and ran my 2 wires up and reinstalled the bulb. What a pain that fine wire was.
I have another buddy from work off to Vegas this weekend so I anticipate another sign in my hand soon.
Planning on leaving a tag long enough to cover the ball lane, hopefully gettimg the switch to put somewhere along the line so I can turn it off if need be.

Any idea what screws into this spacer?
If it is truely empty I may have to look for another mod.

#123 7 years ago

I was leaning toward a guitar or bullet riddled pantera/tv...
With the dancing Elvis right there I wouldn't want to steal from the show.

#125 7 years ago

I looked at the pinballlife replacement jailhouse rock but the shipping to Canada was around $40 for a $10 item.....
I was considering removing it but its pretty torqued on.
Can't say I have had an airball on Elvis yet.
I get them on Nascar pretty regularly. Crashing is just part of racing.

I am swapping out rubber today.
Can't figure out how to get under the upper playfield.
How much tear down does it take to get the upper pf off?
Should I be removing the ramps? The ramp exits wire forms?
The top of the machine is pretty packed with stuff.
Ideas?
Someone has to have replaced all the rubber.

#141 7 years ago

I managed to loosen the hotel side and the upper slid out.
What a pain.
I had 1 nut/bolt bolt up by the flipper I ended up dropping under the top lwft plastic. Luckily I had a spare bolt and didn't have to try to get at the nut under the back of the left ramp.
Wow. I do not want to do that again.
3.5 hours for a rubber swap.
At least it will go faster in the future.

Problem:
I replaced the jailhouse rock plastic with the PL mod.
Now I have had to put the spotlight bulb back on a few times.
Seems like the mod opens up the area a bit too much.
I am thinking of trying a LED for the spotlight. Have it empty right now.
Am I the only one having this issue?
I will have to look at moving/adjusting the spotlight.

#162 7 years ago

I myself don't like the bumper caps for this pin.
With the upper PF its hard to see a whole cap.
A bunch of small music notes around the rim may be the trick.

I got my spotlight behind JR all adjusted and tighted in. The PL mod does leave more headroom for any airballs (haven't had one yet).

Seems ever time I install new rubber in my stern games it makes the slingshots over fire. I had to adjust Nascar at least 3 times. Elvis I hope I got this first time.
Next issue is the coil humming when I hold down the left flipper.
I will have a look at how tight the flipper coils are. Other than that I will have my tech check them out be be sure they are all running good.

I burt out the chase on my Vegas sign by hooking it to the GI. I now have some proper power from the tournament wiring in place. All I need now is another sign to hack up and mod. Learned a few things on this 1st one. I have to leave more of a base so it covers the lane as it warped a bit from heat being so thin.

#166 7 years ago

The shaker motor is somewhat easy to install as the machine is pre-wired for it. It goes in the front left corner next to the coin box.
Shaker is a must.
I also replaced the jailhouse rock plastic with the pinball life mod. This was recommended by this sub forum. Certainly cheaper than a nos replacement and a choice of colours.
My machine has a few colour leds under the blue top 10 hits and the music notes.

Changing the rubber meant removing the upper playfield and getting under the hotel. I found a few small quirks with my machine as one of the ramp bolts wouldn't come off the spacer.

#173 7 years ago

I always used toothpaste on my brass.
LV sign mod is cheap. Under $20 in Vegas at a gift shop. A little cutting, drill a hole, add a little wire and fish it through a bulb hole.
Seems someone at my work is off to Vegas. It was not much trouble to get.

Oh yeah spring for the nvram. Cheap and a very easy install.

#178 7 years ago

I have heard the same with the cabinet art as it appears printed on.

#182 7 years ago

I am getting the odd air ball from the upper pf flipper.
I guess the new rubber is a bit too snappy.
I am going to open up the exit from the top ramp and maybe it will get better. (I can see it hitting by the rubber)
So far I am adjusting the flipper rubber up/down to try and find a sweet spot.
So far it has only happened a few times.

You may have some sizing issues so be patient.

I won"t buy a color dmd until I can see what the singing cut scenes look like.
They are pretty terrrible now.
Hoing to need a UHD dmd to male that blob of orange look lile Elvis.

Is it just my machine or is the note insert on the spinner lane not blue......

#213 6 years ago

I opened up the top PF and I am getting some fall off over the extended ramp corner..
Would be nice to intall a guard. Could be my next mod.

Anybodyl used superbands on rhe lower flippers?

#217 6 years ago

A good reason to toss in some NVRAM.
Probably cheaper than ordering parts from Stern. No soldering required.
I converted both my Sterns and have not looked back.

#221 6 years ago

I watched a few nvram youtube videos and luckily it was the only ram stick of its size on the board.
Here are some pics of it.

TIP

If you are going to work on the hotel targets it would be a good time to replace the rubber. Hard as hell to get to the spots under the hotel while its in one piece.
I found the upper PF was very hard to remove and get back on without getting fingerprints all over the freshly cleaned surface.

Has anyone out there re-painted the dancing Elvis?
I see a spare on fee-bay and the idea of a spare in a different outfit seems like a killer mod.

I paid $5500 cdn for my huo last year. I felt it was pretty top of the mark but I got it from a well known pin rev person and he threw in a bunch of extra stuff (flyer, bag of bulbs, unopened goodie bag). Didn't have the tournament kit (at least it's a topper).
A fun game that I see at shows, and now score better at while there.

#247 6 years ago

I found it a real pain. The left ramp bolt behind the drop targets was hell to loosen enough to get the ramp out.
Have a close look under the hotel, there are 2 rubbers under it. I just turned the clean side out on them.
Ever since swapping rubber I get the occassional ball dive/drop from the up exit area on the left. I also opened up the rubber there.
Just my experience.

I hooked to the GI and it didn't chase. It did stay lit all the time.
Got another sign ($20 in Vegas and its not hard to find someone going)
Hooking into the tournament wiring harness.

Did the color DMD programming ever get done?
I know there was someone collecting to do it privately.
Wonder what the singing animations look like.

Actually I find it close to Iron Maiden with the flippers in similar spots.

I watch feebay pretty regularly.
The usual ask for a PF is between 600-1000 USD.

Yawn, one of the worst LEs ever.
Not one added feature.
Hard to ask for more from anyone with any knowledge.

I also picked up a cheap las vegas sign for under 20 bucks from some co workers that went.
Hooked it into the tourney wiring to give the right voltage.

Jailhouse rock 'mod' was my very 1st buy. Save the original plastic. Comes in 3 colors

Been waiting to find another figure (cheap) to repaint to a different jumpsuit.

It should open the gate at the top right for BSS to activate. Pretty sure during the mode the spinner will score and loop around.
Magnet is basically off in ASU mode.
Will it open for the skill shot? (holding down the left flipper on launch)

#366 4 years ago

Yeah, I swapped all the rubber but the ones under the hotel. They looked damn near impossible to get at easily.

#379 4 years ago

The vegas light sign was pretty cheap if you are ever in vegas.
Buy 2 just in case.
I bought the jailhouse rock replacement and took out my original just in case.
Went led superbright in the spotlights.
Shaker motor.
