As always, it’s impossible to capture lightning in a bottle!
When movies like Lebowski take off and become stone-cold classics, it is usually due to factors much beyond the mere sum of the moviemaking parts and the greatness tends to evolve organically; this is the “magic” of good cinema, but when writers/directors seek to forcibly replicate this they tend to let their egos get in the way and overdo it, and the end product almost always seems contrived and forced.
I can only think of about a half-dozen or so exceptions to this rule.
