If you wanted a handie, there is a thread for that.
I like the idea of EV’s. But until we address the issues of the grid and consistent power production, it’s all a game of self flagellation.

Quoted from embryonjohn:Why does the pro EV community have such a fixation with penises?
Did I walk into the wrong bar?
This popped into my head after reading this.
My dad said there were fights at the gas pumps back in the 70’s during the fuel shortages. I guess EV’s were bound to go through something similar with charging locations. Does this now mean that all upcoming EV’s will get smaller like the cars did back then?
Quoted from Brainiac:I'm sure all the EV charging station fights will be had on twitter.
There will be an entire subculture for Tesla charging station fight clubs.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Hey! You know the rules! Nobody talks about Tesla charging station fight club!

Quoted from Neal_W:I always assumed it would be tricky renting an apartment and charging but my buddies apartment complex has free charging. I didn't know that was a thing.
Considering Elon just accepted 7.5b to open up his charging station network from .gov, it ain’t free.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Nothing is free. Somebody is paying for it one way or another.
Beat me to it.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Why is it "pretend"? Even a coal plant is ~2X more efficient than a ICE...
Now layer in the fact that 20% of electricity is from renewables and things get even more compelling....
Go to texas and 35% is renewables...
Sorry but sometimes reality is too complex to put into a meme...
It’s pretend because they are not free of fossil fuel.
Quoted from titanpenguin:It’s pretend because they are not free of fossil fuel.
And on a really sunny, windy day, we might get lucky to get 20-25% of our power from renewables. What they are rated for, and what they actually put out are two vastly different things.
Quoted from smalltownguy2:He won't respond. Doesn't fit his narrative.
Glad you assume I have a narrative.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Ah ok. So "perfection" should always stand in the way of "better than"...Interesting concept.
BTW, I just cut the ABS brakes, airbag connections and seatbelt pretensioners in my car because they are all pretend (I read someone died in a car crash once).
Your smugness is showing
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:You're the one pursuing perfection and demanding a litmus test for who drives what cars. Not me. Perfection and a virtue test is the pinnacle of smug.
I just shared the meme. Y’all were the ones saying I demand perfection.
You guys do understand I’m sitting her dying laughing at these responses? Right?
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:So you you dont agree with the meme. My bad. Seemed like you did. [insert animated emoji or gif]
This is literally called the I hate ev’s thread. I figured it fit perfectly.
And for those with ev’s with vanity license plates that thumb their nose at gas, coal, etc. the meme kinda fits.
Quoted from paynemic:Been debunked SO many times.
Surely you see the irony in that statement? Your posts are dripping with smug.
Simply participating in a thread named “I hate ev’s” while enjoying people freaking out over posting anything negative about ev’s. Perhaps the irony is misplaced.
Quoted from rue_:One is a Chevy Bolt and the other is a Volvo. I was hoping to think up something related to the make
How about “a new start”. I’ve seen one around here somewhere……
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Looks like you missed the intended irony of my comment and thought I was literally telling him to travel to his state. Good thing I didn't say "now take texas"...You'd be worried his trailer wasnt big enough. Yikes.
I really think you’re missing the bigger picture of what is transpiring here.
Quoted from rue_:If only EV's stayed away from politics. I didn't vote for the current guy and I have two EV's. I work on cars for a living and like technology.
It’s only political when people make it that way. Some people are unable to see past a few shit posts and take everything all personally.
Quoted from Trekkie1978:I can't be the only one that wishes Stern would make a new Corvette game.
You are.
Quoted from paynemic:Well, you’re new here. The history of the thread, including the name, is deeply ironic. But it’s possible I missed some of your meaning, so I apologize.
Welcome to the thread that goes round and round with the same banter back and forth over and over. Each time someone new sees it and pops in with their view (that’s been beat to death on both sides of the issue).
Full disclosure, I love EVs and started the thread as a place for haters to bring all their angst and keep it out of other, more positive threads (like the Cybertruck thread).
No apologies needed. I’m just here having fun. I got a few good laughs and it’s nice to see a few people lighten up and realize I’m here shit posting funny ev memes and gifs. Someone needs to start a Harry and Megan thread so we can use all that new material for the latest episode!
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:I love firebirds! NICE!
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:getting great reviews, finally a good looking Prius
I never thought I’d ever see those words written, let alone spoken. That said, it looks better than a Pontiac Aztec.
Quoted from paynemic:What thread is that? I want to join!
Just follow the boob. bEElzeboob that is.
The only thing serious in that thread is we seriously don’t care. And occasionally talk about pinball. But mostly random nonsense and f(edit)ery
Quoted from Trekkie1978:I will be making a post about that in my thread.
Can we change the title to trekkies Jerry springer show?
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:That's from Rich Rebuilds youtube channel - he also does a bunch of EV builds
there is room for both on the roads
There for sure is. For some people ev’s make sense. For others ICE still do at the moment. All depends on what you do with them.
I want to see if the new dodge charger fratzonic (or however it’s spelled) sound system can be hacked to make it sound like a Jetsons car. It’s the only upcoming ev I am interested to see in person.
Quoted from altan:Thinking of creating an “I hate electricity” thread…
Why not just skip to the front of the line and start an “I hate oxidation” thread?
Quoted from altan:Might be to scientific for the haters.
Maybe we should just sell shirts that say "Oxidation is for tools, burn fossil fuels!"
Don’t be so fissile
Am I over thinking this, or is comparing efficiency percentages kind of useless between ICE and EV’s if the ev is charged by fossil fuels? If combustion itself is around 40% efficient, wouldn’t an ev need to be 100% efficient at using the generated power to be equal to an ICE? Alternative energy sources are a no brainer, but isn’t it a net loss when charged on any other system?
Quoted from Neal_W:I keep mentioning that efficency would be improved if the roads were electrified, but it's hard to imagine how far off that is.
ohh wait..
Well, at least the road kill will now be ready to eat.
Quoted from razorsedge:Ask yourself what happens about Efficiency Ratings of >100%. Regarding 'Energy converssion'. Unconventional, but the ways aren't taught so that things make sense in the clap-trap world. Wouldn't telling the truth be counterproductive to their agenda of keeping everything secret?.
Hmmmm. Yes indeed. They trained people to think about things backwards.
Ironically, it makes me think more into the biological world and how we count calories. It means we are off by 60% or more.
Quoted from Neal_W:To clarify - the woman was pushing the bike, and they showed the 'in car video' on the news. The video showed the woman emerging from the shadows in an unlit area of the road between street lights and walking directly in to the path of the car. They gave no explanation why the homeless woman did not see the oncoming cars headlights in the middle of nowhere. It did not seem like an accident that a human driver would likely avoid.
Isn’t there another video where some asshat intentionally jumped out in front of a self driving car?
Quoted from razorsedge:I actually like EV's . . . and voted in the poll as such.
Should tell something about the validity of the poll results, or what they Mean at least.
Lithium and Cobalt expansion is disgusting, there is No Poll Option for the real world or a response like that, where it isn't about "EV's" it's about destruction and backwards woke 'progress'... the poll is skewed with bias just like so many 'polls' these days.
You mean how it’s ironic we go from freedom back to chains and serfdom willingly?
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:as soon as we reverse engineer some ufo's - or at least admit we have
They need to hurry up then. I’m tired of nails in tires. Especially on the shoulder where they can’t be repaired.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:I posted some videos about recycling recycleing Lithium Ion cells/batteries (also Lead Acid and carbon).earlier in the topic. One advantage is it's cheaper than mining new metals, and helps eliminate other waste as well (packaging of the cells).
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/the-i-hate-evs-thread/page/13#post-6823540
As long as it’s done correctly. I had a storage unit years ago that a battery recycler moved in to the next door unit. Destroyed the paint on one car, made the air unbreathable, and annihilated the concrete pad. There was always “water” leaks to my side. Not sure who shut them down or if the property manager kicked them out.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:They were allowed to have toxic materials located near residential dwellings?
It was commercial. But yea, color me shocked what went on in Indiana. They actually had a huge problem years ago where people would pay cash on a storage unit for 2 or more years up front with a fake name. Then load the unit up with chemical and hazardous waste. Was way cheaper than the disposal fees.
They actually caught a guy that would haul hazardous liquid waste. He’d load up, leave the valve cracked and go on a long drive. Never had any disposal receipts. Crazy shit for sure.
And obviously, these guys that were next to me were a fly by night operation. Not professional in any stretch of the word. But where there is money, people like this will be drawn.
Quoted from Jaybird815:Now you’re starting to get my attention EVs
https://apple.news/ATZZetQQVQvaG1kki5WKWzA
I’m actually still wanting an ev charger if dodge doesn’t screw it up. I have this nagging fear once it’s released they should have called it a Le Baron.
Quoted from Jaybird815:They were pretty sweet [quoted image]
Is that a le baron or a diplomat?
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:We get it. You love government, but the facts are everything the government touches turns to shit and costs more.
Across the board everywhere sadly.
IMG_1323 (resized).jpegQuoted from paynemic:Well, sometimes you gotta spend a little to make a lot. I’m trying to make this an apolitical statement by saying the governments gonna spend regardless. Let’s have it spend on stuff that could make things better.
And before you argue and get all political with me, check the national debt graph relative to what party is in power. It doesn’t matter. It goes up regardless. And for all the talk, nobody makes spending go down. Period. So, subsidizing solar panels? Why the heck not. I’d rather give my money to China once than to the saudis year after year.
Not political at all when you’re simply pointing out that government in and of itself is a circus full of clowns all around.
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:Is this still the I hate EV thread?
Yes. Here is my most recent submission.
IMG_1385 (resized).jpegQuoted from mcluvin:I gather you've never had to shovel coal into a pale and then bring it into your home to feed a coal stove to keep warm? I have and it sucks. It's incredibly inefficient. It's kinda the same idea. Let them burn it there, or whatever else means (hopefully) to make power, and I'll use electricity to warm/cool my home. They don't drive it to the power station with semis either. They use rail. It's more efficient.
I think the humor of the post is lost in translation. And I have loaded coal. It does suck.
Quoted from mcluvin:I get the logic of the meme. If the source is still dirty, how is an EV any better? It's just flawed logic. Most EV owners know the source of that power is still dirty a lot of the time, and that lithiom-ion is not ideal. Ultimately though, it's a step in the right direction.
I can't wait to see the meme's when sodium-ion batteries start to be a thing in EVs. It's coming...Yer just bragging This is what we used and boy that house would be cold in the morning if somebody didn't get up and put more coal in the stove.
[quoted image]
Look past the meme, and read the text and quote.
Quoted from mcluvin:Doh Gotcha! My bad...
gave me a good chuckle how far you ran with that though. Made my afternoon.
Quoted from mcluvin:Been pressure washing my drive way all day. I've got sun delirium. Must remember I'm in the I Hate EVs thread...
With a GAS pressure washer
I have both electric and gas. Electric is ok for the cars. Doesn’t have enough power for the heavy duty jobs though.
Quoted from razorsedge:Deleted post
They are not voluntary at all. You can only get away without paying them if you are a politician or other POS. The rest of us go to jail if we don’t pay. Regular old debtors prison run by our wonderful .gov
Quoted from mcluvin:Doh Gotcha! My bad...
I got this one for you to keep the thread theme going
IMG_1430 (resized).jpegQuoted from Tripredacus:The only complaint I have about EVs is that they do not make any sound when they are driven at slow speeds in a parking lot. This is a safety issue.
I’m going to submit a new bill requiring all EV’s play the baby elephant walk at speeds under 15mph to warn pedestrians.
Quoted from vid1900:Bring on the probes![quoted image]
I don’t know why, but this meme made me picture a UFO with a bunch of little windmills and solar panels on it.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Don't you mean "Solar Windmills"?
See, that would be way cooler and probably how they generate enough power to traverse the universe.
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:Pick your poison. The Chevelle will increase in value and if you blow the engine you can rebuild one for 5-8k Tesla battery replacement??? 15-30k I’ve read.
[quoted image]
I’m waiting for Tesla to deliver on all of those. Would be a steal of a deal if they do. I just don’t see a range of 620 miles any time soon. I think they will hit the 0-60 and get close to the 1/4 mile time though with AWD.
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:That Tesla would run circles around that Chevelle though and never leaving you smelling like gas fumes.
Just ozone.
Quoted from Neal_W:Saw this mixed in with my homepage clickbait. File under we're not ready.

Which really makes you wonder about bridges then as well. We already know that those are in drastic need of repair as well. Guess California will find out before the rest of us.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:I'm too cheap to do burnouts (or drift). Do you know how much a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires is?
You could just admit you drive around with all the nanny controls on. It’s ok.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Whats your daily driver?
GMC pickup. Always hauling shit in the bed.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:And you turn off ABS, ESP and collision assist every time you get in? Impressive.
Did you cut out your seatbelts too?
I think you missed the joke.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:You could just admit you drive around with all the nanny controls on. It’s ok.
My fun car doesn’t come with those. Didn’t exist in 69
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:They didnt need it. Your "fun car" (unless its HEAVILY modified) is likely half as fast as your truck.
It’s ok, you can keep all that electronic stuff. Apparently you need it more than the car.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Your GMC has all of it. Don't need it for cars that are slower than a Ford Taurus.
I used the exhaust brake today on your advice. Don’t know why it’s not enabled all the time.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Its odd that that defaults off.
Not really. It’s used when towing, and usually you only want to use it when towing steep grades. But hey, if the computer knows best, I should probably use it all the time.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Thats what I meant. You'd think it would come on once you connect something to the hitch. (still not sure why you havent disconnected ESP, ABS and braking assist but oh well.)
I did turn it all off today for you. Along with the annoying lane departure. So much better. And the fact that it thinks my neighbors mailbox is a car and tries to prebrake all the time. I turned that noise off permanently long ago. Useless.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:How'd you turn off ABS?
Pull the fuse. I get a nasty error light on the dash though.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:I'll take it the compliment. Rambo was anti corporate/military industrial complex/big oil bootlickers.
I thought he just wanted to be left alone, and not be told what to do by the gubmint?
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:He wasn’t paying attention as usual.
New shirts for us all!
IMG_1597 (resized).jpegQuoted from Neal_W:Gas stations may go the way of the typewriter and the payphone.
Will simply convert to “charging” stations. We just gave 7.5b to Tesla to open up its network.
All to simply allow other manufacturers to use chargers already capable of charging other cars. Let that sink in.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Nope. He is fine with the military (well, he did say he'd be ok if it was a just a widdle smaller) and fine with BILLIONS in OMG industry subsidies. He uses his catch all "taxes are theft" but then only cries about it being used for things that hurt his feelings like solar.
I didn’t realize there was a remake out there.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Burden is on you to prove he's the outlier. Not him.
How many unbalanced budgets, underfunded liabilities, and proposed tax increases do you need to satisfy this requirement? Just want to know where you set the goalposts ahead of time.
Quoted from altan:So EVs and governments are the same now?
It’s all ball bearings and spetzer valves these days. What we really need is a birds eye view.
Quoted from galore2112:Haha I bought my EVs out of curiosity and then got hooked on the insane acceleration. I never wanted to save the planet.
It’s weirdly stupid silly but now I have a 0-60 3.2 seconds 610 HP SUV and that power is just intoxicatingly addictive.
My ICEV has a 340 HP twin turbo V6 and it feels like a limp snail in comparison.
Because it is.
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:Almost every insane story starts with ‘A Florida man….
Wonder what bubb rubb and lil’ sis have planned.
Quoted from titanpenguin:Upside down.
When does someone do tank tracks?
Welp, looks like it’s been done.
IMG_1647 (resized).jpegQuoted from Neal_W:Yikes the '78 Subaru BRAT again!?!
[quoted image]
thought the same thing. Was going to post it needs a subbie badge on it.
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:That thing would be cool with a modern Subaru drivetrain
Pretty sure it’s been done.
Quoted from vid1900:How many people are driving a work van more than 129 miles a day??
My ford van gets 10 mpg downhill with the wind behind it.....I'd trade for that E Transit any day of the week.
When I travel, I’ll easily put on 250 miles one way. Add stop and go, and Texas heat in the summer. Not viable for me at the moment. The wife could make do with an EV, but then we would have to have another vehicle for kids sports. Same issue with me for work. Some meets are 6 hour drive away. Most are only 50 miles, but can’t make do with inferior performance.
Texas is one of the few states you can start driving one day, and 13 hrs later still be in the same state.
Quoted from RyanStl:If the E transit would have had 200 I would have been fine with it.
For a lot of folks, that’s fine. The question remains, we are less than 7% annual ev sales currently. We already have major power grid issues. What’s going to happen when we bump up to 20%? 50%? I hear all this talk about ev cars taking over the market, but no one is talking about actually charging them. We can build all the charging stations we want, but if the existing infrastructure can’t support it, what’s the point? It’s like digging a well where there is no water.
Quoted from vid1900:If the E Transit could just do 139 miles per charge, it could work for me.
But 129 is just not enough for servicing coin-op in the city.
wE r NoT ReAdy !!!
Just going to have to take a 3 hour siesta like we do in Texas while it charges.
Quoted from vid1900:What's going to happen when China buys all the Mideast oil for it's exploding middle class?
If you think the Saudi, Iraqi and Iranians hate you now, just you wait....
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Almost sounds like your saying the government sold us out, and is now trying to fix the problem they created by forcing plan b on us.
Quoted from Ribs:[quoted image][quoted image]
[quoted image]
Gotta be rough to live in a state that grows by .1% year over year. Not sure how y’all plan for that kind of urban expansion.
Quoted from starfighter:5 billion is a drop in the bucket. You'll need more like 100 Billion to have any meaningful impact.
According to electrek .com "there are 160,000 charging station nationwide and that number will need to be about 700,000 by 2030. So the US will have to quadruple the number of chargers between 2022 and 2025 and grow more than eight-fold by 2030. By 2027, the analysts expect that there will be a need for about 1.2 million Level 2 chargers and 109,000 level 3 chargers deployed nationally. And looking to 2030, with the assumption that there will be 28.3 million new EV's on US roads, a total of 2.13 million Level 2 and 172,000 Level 3 public chargers will be required, in addition to home EV chargers." (Texas alone will need 90,000 new charging stations.)
There is no way the current grid can be revamped in 7 years to support the expected load/demand by 2030.
Someone gets it.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Sounds scary doesnt it?
Not really. We’ve been down this road before. Some of us can see the direction it’s going and ask pertinent questions, and others choose to avoid the obvious. I’m not here to change anyone’s minds. EV’s have a place in society, no question about it. The one size fits all approach currently being taken is an abomination to reason. At the end of the day, I’m just here to post “I hate ev memes.”
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Thats cool. The world needs skyscreamers like you too. Meme away!
So nice of you to take a colonial view of things.
Quoted from DBLM:<blockquote cite="
In the last 40 years our grid has increased the amount of energy produced 5 fold! That's 4% per year. To realize a 30% increase at 4% per year it would take 6.5 years (Hint: it'll take longer than that for everyone to switch). The argument that the grid can't handle it is irrelevant.
Umm, I don’t have a dog in this fight and think all of you are silly but you might want to recheck your math….compounding and everything.
We don’t do that in this thread. Everything is fine.
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:Chargers at hospitals make sense since most EV owners are old boomers.
I see what you did there.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Stop bringing facts to a feelings/meme fight.
Let us know when you intend to use facts and real math. I want to be sure to sit down and be ready for it. Until then, memes away
Quoted from paynemic:Wait, so now you are saying we have too many chargers?
“wEre tOO ReADy!!!”
At least use the sponge bob meme for this. It really was a missed opportunity
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Refute anything I've said. Or don't. All good either way.
Until then...Tylenol for headaches, Midol for cramps!
I’ll be sure to send you some vagisil and prep h. It seems to be missing from your current regiment. Other than that, you should be good to go.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Cool.
(and its regimen)
I’ll take your editing of my post as an admission that you have completely missed what has been happening here. Rest assured, I have been laughing quite a bit.
Quoted from mcluvin:They tell me to turn off my AC during peak hours. It doesn't mean I'm doing it, and it doesn't mean the grid can't handle it. It does mean a certain percentage of folks are gonna be hot because they agreed to that power management program for a few measley bucks each month.
If you have a smart thermostat, odds are they are throttling it back for you. That was a huge surprise for some folks in Texas.
Quoted from mcluvin:Not happening here yet. I can set it to 65 when it is 90+ outside. It will try to get there without interuption, but never does. I'm single pane and just a little too far north for that awesome window subsidy available in my state.
You only get stung here if you sign up for the program. It’s claim is to save money, but in the user agreement it states they can adjust your thermostat in times of stress on the grid.
Of course the way around it is simple. All you have to do is disconnect your smart thermostat from wifi.
Quoted from mcluvin:Not happening here yet. I can set it to 65 when it is 90+ outside. It will try to get there without interuption, but never does. I'm single pane and just a little too far north for that awesome window subsidy available in my state.
Why limit the subsidy? If it’s beneficial then all should get it regardless. Especially if you are single pane glass.
Quoted from mcluvin:The subsidy is all about wind speed. It's not about energy efficiency. It's for hurricane protection. The byproduct is the opportunity to upgrade to energy efficient windows for ~$10K less than otherwise...
Wouldn’t it make more sense to subsidize storm shutters then?
Quoted from JakeFAttie:Let me just first say "I love EV's" and own two, but... here's my tesla being towed off after bricking itself and needing a $16,000 new battery! Fuck Tesla! only 120,000 miles on the car/battery, but a 2012.
[quoted image]
That sucks. How is the wear on the major frame mounting points at that age/mileage? Always wondered with how heavy they are.
Quoted from coolwhs:Mind if I ask, why not get a used battery for the car?
Wouldn't a used battery be a lot cheaper or is it locked to the VIN number somehow?
If it can be locked to a vin, it can be unlocked. Just need the right program to do it. I’d imagine a used battery wouldn’t be much cheaper though.
Quoted from JakeFAttie:yeah i looked into the used options. it's about half the price but also much less warranty. Also there is a good chance the battery from Tesla will actually be new and slightly bigger. (90vs85). The used battery market is growing, there's a half dozen installers nation wide, but I just surrendered to Tesla this time. I may ask for my used battery and either sell it to a friend or try to turn it into a powerwall myself. :-/
After experiencing how the rebuilt engine market works, I’d be worried about the used battery market. They warranty the part, but you get stuck with the removal/install costs if it fails.
Quoted from Fytr:That's like 12 bolts and some silicon sealant in that era of battery pack...
And a lift/hoist to move it.
Quoted from The_1up:Sorry I used the wrong description. Not a commercial super charger, I meant a 48amp home charger.
Oh no, you’re committed now since you posted it on an Internet forum.
Quoted from mcluvin:Hell no! Got a 2012 CR-V with 260k miles still going strong. It eats right CV axles every 100k miles though. Otherwise nothing major….
Asymmetrical shafts?
Quoted from mcluvin:I used to have a local who would rebuild them for $100. He got out of it though. Honda is very proud of their CV Axles. Aftermarkets suck. I need to learn how to rebuild them myself.
Its not hard, just messy and time consuming.
Quoted from flynnibus:note they removed it - not got it out of the yard or anywhere else without said equipment
Love the creepers.
Love him or hate him, he hasn’t changed who he is to appease anyone. You have to respect that these days.
Quoted from Ribs:You have to? I personally think respect is earned.
Contextual clues dear Watson. Contextual clues. Read the statement as a whole, not what you want to nit pick out.
Quoted from Ribs:We are talking about Musk. Me adding some additional context for things Musk is generally known for is not a sly maneuver. It only seems sly because you lack familiarity with the person you say you have to respect.
Ok, at first I thought that you just read my post fast and felt the urge to respond asap. Now I realize you didn’t comprehend any of what I wrote in the slightest.
I never wrote that I respect musk for anything other than that in spite of people from both sides of the aisle going after him, he has not wavered in his stance or caved to either.
I made zero claims about knowing, let alone caring who he is as a person.
Quoted from Ribs:You: He is who he is, and hasn't changed to appease anyone. You have to respect that these days.
Me: No you don't.
You: You didn't comprehend anything I said.
Good convo. Your written word is on the same tier of quality as your memes...
This is your rebuttal? Sad you go back and edit your posts to support your stance after the fact. The quotes don’t lie keyboard cowboy.
Quoted from paynemic:Yeah, this discussion needs to turn back to hating EVs (or not, like me) rather than an Elon/politics argument. Somebody could definitely go big with a “I hate Elon” thread though…
Let’s bring the fun back then shall we? What EV fits a pinball machine? Obviously the hummer, but they are pretty much unobtainable right now.

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Regarding Tesla, the brilliance of Musk is that he is a capitalist who found a way to market to environmental alarmist/zealots and made billions off of them playing off of their emotions. For that, I have nothing but respect for the man, and actually love EV's because of it.
And got the .gov to subsidize it on top of it all.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Imagine caring about what people drive. Yikes.
Anyone else see dodge’s plan for the tuner market and their upcoming charger ev? Interesting take for sure.

Quoted from JakeFAttie:well it's been a month now since my model s died. Been sitting at Tesla for over two weeks. They still no idea when the new battery is coming. :-/
Did you try batteries plus?
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Too bad Radio Shack isn't around any more. They had Batteries for EVERYTHING! j/k
Hell, RS would probably sell a battery repair kit.
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:I understand the frustration, but if they had a charger at home, they would not be as reliant on public chargers and probably have a better experience

Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Today's EV fire . . .
[quoted image]
A shocking video shows a row of electric F-150s bursting into flames after EV batteries overheated and caught on fire.
Those fighting the flames say they are currently unprepared to mitigate the looming crisis that could result from a growing number of EVs hitting the road in the near future.
David Dalrymple, a volunteer firefighter, and Michael O'Brian of the International Fire Chiefs Association say the long-burning blaze starts with the vehicles' lithium batteries and a chemical reaction that fuels itself.
"It's a totally different pathway than most firefighters have to deal with," Dalrymple said.
He explained how the overheated batteries inside the vehicles generate a fire that can linger for hours and is next to impossible to extinguish.
"Basically, it's a chemical reaction," he explained. "It's not a normal fire where fire needs oxygen to burn. This is a chemical reaction that makes its own oxygen. It's an exothermic reaction."
O'Brian said he is concerned about first responders who currently lack training and resources to fight these long-burning fires and prevent loss of life when seconds count.
According to O'Brian, gasoline-powered vehicles can often be extinguished within five minutes and the site cleanup time is relatively brief. Electric vehicles, however, can take hours to rein in because of their unique differences.
"We're now dealing with two-plus-hour incidents, and we can't actively extinguish this fire when the battery pack is involved, so fire crews are really forced with two major options – do we actively cool the battery pack, which is trying to stop that propagation within that battery pack, or do we just let it go?" he said.
EV battery fires also increase the need for upticks in fire hydrant installations, particularly in areas near freeways where they are less common, he added.
"There's a lot of change that's going to be happening, and it's not just our electrified vehicles. This discussion is happening in our buildings, it's happening in the recycling market, and you'll see, as we build more batteries, as we produce more EVs, that means more products are going to be on the road as we move to get these to assembly plants… and our fire crews are going to be continually challenged every day."
Should ask Audi/VW what happens on a container ship full of cars when one container of EV’s goes up
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:That's funny. I used to have a friend that I hated riding with and I would give him the hardest time. He was the only one I've ever known that literally accelerated into stop signs/red lights. I guess I'm glad to know there is at least one other one out there.
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:There is no question the LI batteries still have issues
hopefully some of the new battery tech on the horizon will solve those issues - like solid state
Capacitance gel
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:They're as ready as a sloshing bucket of gasoline attached to the underside of vehicles next to hot exhaust...
Have not seen any of those randomly go up in flames for no reason lately.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:I see ICE vehicles burst into flames all of the time at the gas station while fueling.
Beat me to it.

Which one of these is related to the “sloshing tank of gas” in the back?
I’m calling BS on those car fire numbers. Let’s just assume that there are only 10 million ICE vehicles currently operating in the country to make this simple. That would mean that there are over 1.5 million car fires annually just for ICE. That would be over 4200 fires a day. Not seeing that.
Doh, missed a zero
153000 annually

Quoted from altan:So hydrogen and Ypsilanti are like STDs for EVs?
Michigan college town? Sure, why not. I was picturing Beavis standing out front of the tower going “boooinnnnggg” then going full Great Cornholi after though.

Quoted from pinballizfun:fuel system or electrical system related fire? hmm?
Trailer hitch wiring
Quoted from vid1900:Fuel
There's a couple of cars in that line that the manufacturer has been telling people not to store indoors.
It’s wiring. Trailer hitch to be exact.
So Ferrari is recalling the 296 for fuel line corrosion/possible leak. Get this, caused by the lithium battery cover. How do we classify this one?
Quoted from galore2112:Substandard engineering.
100%, as is with all recalls. More pointing out the irony of a hybrid car having a fuel leak caused by the battery.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Even from you're post you indicated it's the battery cover, not the battery. Remember when the "New Beetle" came out there was a voluntary recall for a problem with wires rubbing against a surface an wearing the insulation down. No fires, some service techs caught it.
Same with Chevy cruises in 2015ish. Harness got pinched under a motor mount. They started having random issues with no real pattern. Then they found the pinched harness issue.
Stupid question, but how many of you have a gas can, varnish, spray paint, battery charger (lithium, NiMH, LiPo, etc.) or anything else flammable in your garage?
Quoted from girloveswaffles:"BuT WhaT aBoUt PynBalL fIERZz?"
(...nice looking Strikes and Spares there BTW)
Quoted from vid1900:A car gas tank won't explode, even if you run a few rounds through it. The tires will pop when heated.
A can of spray paint won't explode into a fireball, but it will pop (throw one in a bonfire to test for yourself)
All of your flammable liquids should be stored in a metal cabinet, just like they taught you when you took shop class in middle school.
All charging should be done in the Charging Drawer of your toolbox

Dang, now I need a new toolbox. My metal cabinet just doesn’t seem good enough any more.
Quoted from paynemic:Needed an app to read, so I didn’t. But you all never seemed to complain when giant, heavy, fume-belching semis shed tire crap everywhere….
Is that a yo mama joke?
Quoted from paynemic:Hahahaha
Can’t believe y’all didn’t laugh at the EV strap on joke either. Tough crowd in here.
Quoted from paynemic:We’re not ready!!!
Jk. Thanks for posting that!
VHS is dead. Is that what we are celebrating here?
Quoted from smalltownguy2:It's alive and well in my house thank you very much
Are you embracing obsolete non green tech?
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:Has nothing to do with it being an EV, more a sheet metal design choice
100%
It’s also assembly choices. Lots of glued on and riveted panels on these cars. Material makes a big difference as well. When the ford f150 and superduty went to mostly aluminum body and panels there was a similar issue. Working with aluminum and composites takes a completely different skill set than your run of the mill body shop.
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Had a friend that bought a F150 the first year they went to aluminum panels. Wasn't long before he was in an accident and regretted his decision. I'm sure it is getting better, but I know there are still limited shops that do aluminum work. I unfortunately had a vehicle totaled recently (not my fault - my truck was rear ended causing frame damage), and while I was at a national collision repair chain with probably 20+ locations here in DFW, I heard the receptionist tell a caller that only one of their locations in Fort Worth did aluminum repairs.
Yup. Total PITA
Quoted from smalltownguy2:I worked for a Ford dealer for 13 years. Our body shop requires at least 25% of their repair techs be certified in aluminum work. All of the tech schools now focus on aluminum work in their curriculum too. It's commonplace now.
More common yes, but still way more costly.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Fine for you. I wouldn't want an EV anyways. To yourself YOUR own.
Won’t have to worry too much about adopting EV’s in 20 years anyway. New goal is not to electrify, but to remove 75% of private vehicle ownership. The wonderful WEF wants us all living in human versions of factory farming chicken coups.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:40% of americans rent their homes. The majority of the rest are owned by banks not the homeowner. Most everything is services based now. The media we consume, the software we utilize, the cars we drive (25% are leased and 80% are financed). People want services...there's no evil elitist cabal driving that desire...well...maybe "big tinfoil" has a hand in it...
So 60% of people want to own their own homes
105% want to own their own cars
But we are “services” based economy?
Also, this cabal you speak of, I didn’t make any of it up. It’s from their own press releases. Hard to believe I know, but when some one says what their plan is, I tend to listen. Especially when it’s based in fascism.
When the grifters pushing all these mandates stop flying private by the thousands to meetings that can be a zoom call, eating expensive and environmentally unsound wagyu beef, and buying oceanfront property, then i may start listening to them. Until then, it’s a scam to make money off the backs of the people.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:Honestly nobody cares if you listen to peer reviewed science or not...There's always the old, angry and on the wrong side of history dude in every stage of world history. You're not edgy or new.
Didn’t we already establish a lot of the “science” being floated here is many times marketing company products?
Quoted from vid1900:Yes, of course I own a business
But how does the government switching it's fleets to EV in 13 years "effect" you?
If all the auto companies worldwide are going ev in less than 10 years, it's not really anything to clutch your pearls about
Ford says that within the decade, the average EV will have a 550 mile range.
There will still be trucks and trains that run on diesel
All new houses now are roughed for ev
Anyone that buys a new passenger car 10 years from now will have a charger, obviously
Stay away from FUD News
Trains run on diesel to produce electricity though.
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:No. You're conflating some statistics that were put out there (and not proven incorrect) with peer reviewed science.
I wouldn’t call it peer reviewed science when someone requests the data sets and someone refuses to produce them. That’s the exact opposite of peer reviewed science. There was no review. The word you are looking for is fraud.
