Quoted from FlippyD:

Here's an idea: Tire Tax
Affects anything that rolls on the road. From big rigs to golf carts. Everyone would pay for their share of wear and tear of the communal road space.

They already do a "wheel tax" in some cities near me. Gets added on to your yearly registration fees. That is in addition to the tax your paying at the pump though.

You ever notice though the most fervent Tesla defenders are also stock holders. Makes sense why they are so fanatical. Tesla owners are like that timeshare salesman at the resort presentation that you went to just for the free night. Even though you told them 100 times your not interested they are relentless with an answer for everything.

It's interesting though. Nobody is offering free gas that I'm aware of. But there are plenty of free charging stations. A used EV makes a lot of sense for someone just scraping by.
What's better? $500 in gas every month for my 20 year old, paid-off car, or a $300 payment (for 60 months) on a slightly used Bolt that needs ~$100 worth of electricity (or less) to go the same distance?

I guess if you are paying $500 gas in a month it makes sense. Jeez I just filled up my Tacoma and it was $75. It's far from the most efficient vehicle around and that will last me two weeks going to work/back and buzzing around town.

The upside is they say it's safe to park your Bolt indoors now.

Were you listening to The Dude's story, Donny???
Literally the post above yours.

Yeah about charging times for EVs being almost entirely dependent on CO2 emitting natural gas. Choices in CA seem to be strain the grid or depend on fossil fuels one way or another as of now.

Also, consider the source. It's not a news source I'd hang my hat on. Their phrasing was odd, so I had to check who they are. When in doubt, google them.

Science!

Quoted from zaphX:

I don't think it matters what we call it, there will always be people who want to harm others to avoid minor inconveniences to themselves.

Says the guy driving the $90k EV. I'm sure if I had one I'd be a little more receptive.. Having it crammed down our throat as some moral obligation at our expense gets a little ridiculous.

It's not the EVs it's the self righteous owners that are grating. I saw a Rivian drive through my town when I was walking the dog. It was kind of exciting to see and looked pretty good. Then I though to myself I bet the owner is a total know it all douche. Ha.

Quoted from zaphX:

It might have been a really cool person who just wanted a neat truck.
Not all of us buy EVs to be part of some crusade, we just decided we liked them.

Yeah I get that, and your car is undoubtedly cool. But then you jump on the "save the world" bandwagon. Starts to feel like a requirement to own one. Exhausting and annoying. None of this is a perfect solution no matter how many times someone yells "Science!"
