I picked up this Hook for my brother and his family .This will be their first game . Game was in players condition and was in need of a few small repairs , so without getting too crazy I thought I'd do a few things to make this game a little nicer and make it play real nice for them .

It for the most part looked good , but there was a poor repair done on the front left bottom corner . It looked as though a beaver had been chewing on rocks .

So I need to take care of that , but I need to keep my repair as small as I can because any artwork I remove will need to be touched up . So I sanded it as flat as I could get with what was there . Put more filler and finished it off . I then primed and painted as small of an area as I could . The rest will be done by hand painting the artwork back in .

looking great. Already moving along farther than I get to on my own games.

#28 5 years ago

Thank you ! Yeah I have been working on this since MGC so it didn't happen as fast as it appears to be here .

#30 5 years ago

Ok so the side rails I could have gotten from marco , lock bar seemed to be out of stock and I did not find a new speaker panel (hinges weren't too bad I could have left those alone ). So I decided the route I was going to take was going to be painting the pieces from the game I had . But since I was going to be doing this I did not want to make them just look stock , (too much work to just go un noticed I thought ) So I decided to paint them with a custom paint job .

#31 5 years ago

So The game is peter pan /pirate theme . The pirate ships in the game are made of wood and I thought a wood grain on these parts would look nice and fit the theme pretty well also . To do the wood grain I started by making a light brown to match the brown on the cabinet (that was the base color). Base color was put on after I removed the powder coat cleaned up the rust , then primed , sealed and base coat using automotive paint . after base color I started accent lines with a darker brown .

So after the base and accents the next step in the wood grain is to use black paint and a hard bristle brush to do the grain . Then go through and accent areas using black and the darker brown with an airbrush . Here is the speaker panel , I still need to get speaker grills for it .

Nice ! Not really sure how many hours I have into this one ,but I think it came out good and I believe my brother and his family are going to enjoy this game . He has 4 sons youngest being 7 and oldest 13 . I am going to let them start with the original code and after a while I have them put in Chad's update , that way the game will seem fresh again after sometime of ownership .

Excellent idea about updating the new code at a later date.

Thought about it yes ,but I am not going to do it ….yet. Was trying to not get too crazy with this game , and I do think it would look nice.... But the coin door was decent and the legs were . The parts I did paint I did because they were pretty badly worn out/rusty and not readily available new or good shape to just replace . Maybe someday if they decide they really like the game and would like the coin door and legs done at some point I will do those pieces for them . Time frame was also a factor as I had limited time to finish this game , My brother is driving from Connecticut next week to pick this up .

You are a great brother!

looking great. I love the wood effect on everything. Fits the theme well. Hook is a great shooting and looking game. It's the rules that should have had some modes going on to make it more involved. Havn't played the new code thou.

The old speaker grills were pretty rusty also , I did put in new ones that are slightly different as far as the size of the holes in the grill . I went with black because I thought it looked better with the wood grain I had done . No artwork on the grill either . Easy enough to change out so something else could be put in with no problem but I'm liking the look of these . Put some little skulls down in the corners also because skulls are cool and they totally match the art and theme of the game .
