Does anyone have an idea when the new code will be available for download?

Cant be long now.
Hey there. Just got my hobbit LE thursday. Set it up no damage which was a huge relief. Had a full night last night of friends coming over and playing i didnt have time to set up the new code so we played the original version last night all was well besides for the odd little known issues.
Today i updated the code and now my ball autolaunch is so weak it wont kick a ball up into play! I went to the settings and maxed it out at 32 and it still keeps trying but wont kick a ball up to the shooter. What am i missing??? Any help appreciated

Sounds mechanical not software. I suspect the plunger assembly was a bit loose and is now out of alignment.
Make sure and check the screws that are used to adjust the height of your drop targets. Mine were not installed right and all fell out. Easy fix just someone getting sloppy in the factory.
Hit Into the Fire and Barrel Escape on the stream today and topped 1 million for the first time. This is 1.35 code. What a great game.

Not yet. This is prerelease code that came with the machine when we brought it home after the open house tournament at JJP.

Ok thanks. I've only had time to play about 5 or 6 games so far. Can any one tell me in a nutshell what the best way to start modes is?

To answer your stream question. If you qualify for Arkenstone Mode after barrel escape ok current code it just loops back to into the fire again (no continuing like LOTR)

Shot the mode ramp (right ramp) when it's flashing 'mode'
I made a little video a couple weeks ago for people new to the pin on how to qualify for Arkenstone modes with the glass off just to make it easier. Might be handy for someone

Good to know. Thank you! Can't wait for the Battle of Five Armies
Killed Smaug...by accident. Just going for jackpots and trying to keep from draining and it happened.
Game is a bunch of fun. Now to try on purpose will be a lot harder.

How exactly do you kill Smaug? Get a certain number of super jackpots?
Quoted from KevInBuffalo:How exactly do you kill Smaug? Get a certain number of super jackpots?
I'm still questioning this to how to kill him. I think I've gotten close, but never told to load the windlance.
Quoted from KevInBuffalo:How exactly do you kill Smaug? Get a certain number of super jackpots?
Its listed somewhere maybe in this thread.
It involves 5 different levels of killing beasts or making ramps and orbits.
In general terms at about your 5th smaug multiball, if you have attempted to keep your ball in play as long as possible,
You are close to killing smaug.
When it happens its amazing.
I dont think one can consciously kill smaug without laying the groundwork first IMHO....
Quoted from KevInBuffalo:How exactly do you kill Smaug? Get a certain number of super jackpots?
From Scott's rule sheet there are 4 levels. Hopefully it is ok that I have copied here:
"During Smaug Multiball you must progress through 4 levels per the below. If you fail to complete this your progress is saved and you will start your next Smaug Multiball where you left off. During all levels jackpots are lit in red and super jackpots are lit in blue.
Level 1:
o Your goal is to score 6 jackpots to then light a super jackpot
Ramps score 1x Jackpots, Holes score 2x Jackpots, Loops score 3x Jackpots
Jackpot starts at 1000 and increases either based upon switch hits or time or both
Super Jackpot starts at 5000 and increases with each jackpot collected. The increase are 500 for ramp shots, 1000 for hole shots, or 1500 for loop shots.
o After collecting 6 jackpots a Super Jackpot shot is lit for collection at the standup targets behind ARF.
I believe regular jackpots also continue to remain available until the super is collected.
Level 2:
o Same as above except Ramps are 2x, Holes are 3x, and Loops are 4x
o It may also be true that you need to collect each individual jackpot (not just any 6) to enable the super jackpot.
Level 3:
o Same as above except Ramps are 3x, Holes are 4x, and Loops are 5x
o It may also be true that you need to collect each individual jackpot (not just any 6) to enable the super jackpot.
Level 4:
o Same as above except Shots (ramps, holes, loops) are 2x and MAN targets are 3x and after hitting MAN targets Smaug is available for 4x at the ARF targets.
o The first time shooting for Smaug 3 standups are lit.
o The 2nd time the two you standups you didn’t hit are lit.
o The 3rd and final time the right ramp will be lit. Once you hit that the ball will be loaded into the Windlance. Then you must hit the ring button to launch the ball up slightly past the upper flipper and perform a quick shot to the single lit DWARF standup that remains to kill Smaug. If you don't hit the right Smaug target, then you must hit a MAN target and reload the right ramp and try again.
Note: I think all the other drop targets are up so this is a very skillful shot and closely represents the film where a missing scale enables Smaug to be killed.
Note: One player suggested that it is easiest to cradle a ball on the right flipper, then hit the right ramp and go for the kill shot with the ball on the bottom right flipper."

Yes! Anything which gets people aware of this and helping to improve it is welcome. It wouldn't be where it is without the contributions of many others so far.

I did and haven't heard anything on it. Are kits being sent out?
I submitted a ticket and they sent me the kit earlier last week. Was more concerned about the springs breaking but I will admit, I'm not have problems. My game is playing great.

Ramp flap kit? I got the other kit.
Am I missing something, or is it the new update that is *still* missing? It would be fabulous if JJP could explain that it is still coming, will be here soon, etc. I also didn't love it that they called it the "Final Update" because it suggests they're done with us. It is hard to believe that there won't be anything else to update...

If they have finished the game then I'm fine with a 'final update'. Jack did say that there will still be bug fixes if/when they are detected.
Should be up on the website sometime today.
Anyone at Expo notice if the Black Arrow edition had hammered black side rails/legs (same effect as the LE and SE), or just standard black paint. Thanks.

I heard on the Google Group from Jack that the update should be out tonight.
Also, Jack did make a comment that there would be other updates for future bug fixes and additions. I hope this is a WOZ 2.0 case where the game was considered complete at that point (all modes in the game) but then additional updates were released to make it better.

Not hammered.

+ Addition * Change/bugfix - Note
==============================================================================
== Version 1.90 ==
==============================================================================
=== Known Issues
- Note that Headphone Volume doesn't work for Hobbit; it was meant to be
suppressed. The software has no idea if headphones are plugged in or not
on Hobbit, so we have to use the normal volume.
=== Game Code
* Added safety check for mode starts.
+ Mode/map bonuses.
- At the end of each mode, you can earn up to 3 different kinds of bonuses:
1. Timer Bonus (not shown on total screen right now): Each second you
have left when you win a mode gets added to MULTIPLIABLE bonus.
The points earned are 1+2+3... for each second you have remaining.
2. Map Bonus: If the map is beyond where the mode takes place, you
earn +25% mode total in unmultiplied end-of-ball bonus. For each
completion of the map (got to super spinner), you get an additional
+50% added.
3. Previous Mode Bonus: Each mode now has a completion percent
associated with it (shown on grand total page). Each mode can have
0-3 "feeder" mode associated with it. For each feeder mode, you
earn a percentage bonus based on the total completion percentage of
the feeder modes. Each feeder mode is displayed on the grand total
page, dim if you haven't played the feeder, and solid if you have.
Good luck finding some good feeder combinations! All of the feeders
"make sense" (at least to me) in terms of how they relate to future
covered modes, so some can probably be guessed pretty easily.
+ Broken beast compensation. If a beast isn't coming up, then shots behind
each beast will count towards hitting the beast. The relevant switches
are the left and right spinners, and the left and right ramp entrances.
* Changed spinner scoring.
* Bonus reformatted to take new items into account.
* Fixed a relatively rare crash bug on a mode shot.
+ Smaug death fanfare.
* Fixed super spinner scoring bug (each spin scored twice intended).
* Super spinner timer remaining adds to timer bonus.
* Feast Frenzy timer remaining adds 3x to timer bonus.
* Fix Moon Runes not showing grand total screen properly.
* Add card reader movies to attract mode.
+ Volume effects. If you don't like these, note the adjustments in
Settings->System Settings->Sound.
* All book modes have been score balanced a lot better than they were.
There were a lot of winners (like Rescue Gandalf and Defeat of Azog) and
some losers (Roast Mutton).
+ Battle of Five Armies.
+ Black Arrow support.
=== Core Code
* Fixed an extremely rare crash bug (r1159).
* Fix label on coil test enter button.
* Fix tilt logic that was giving about a half second less of plumb bob
debounce time than expected.
* Bulletproof ball roll tilt detection.
* Fix Match bug where turning off match still gave a 10% chance of matching.
=== OS
* Fix update routine that stopped update screen from showing after 30s.
* Added missing "update complete" screen.
Just did the 1.9 update and it seems much more polished for sure, I did also see allot of additional lighting effects. The beast popups and their associated lighting is much better.
I can not upgrade to 1.90
All ready use 4 USB stick and no one working
Pinball keep 1.30p software
Do someone now the solution to upgrade ?
All ready try different solution but not found the good one.

Just followed the instructions here.
Worked fine for me. Just make sure you have the whole file on the USB. Had to download it a few times before to get it complete.

I'm going to have to do a Mac download as well. Recommendations on what USB stick I should grab on my way home from work tomorrow?

Make sure you have a clean perfect version of the software. Some times it gets corrupted in the transfer.
Use the USB update function in the game menu.
Use a different USB stick of a different manufacturer, if it wont read. They are not all equal.
Format it to fat32 , but it should come that way pre-formatted.
Have only the unzipped "Hobbit_update" folder on the usb stick
Follow the instructions in the manual or the website exactly.
Also if you cant get any type of USB stick to read, check or replace the USB cable.
The USB stick should fit snugly into the connector end on the cable

I also found that if the usb stick is installed PRIOR to powering on the machine when you select the update option it doesn't recognise that the usb is there. Just remove it and put it in when prompted and it seems to find it right away.

I was agreeing with him Lloyd. The instructions say turn on your game then install the USB.
