I've been arguing with myself over which would be the better way to go (not anytime soon, mind you).
The new ZL1 Camaro packs quite a punch. The official numbers are out, and it is actually putting out 650hp and 650 ft lbs of torque, which is the same as the Corvette Z06. The suspension includes the Magnetic Ride technology that is also on the Z06. It will also have available the 10 speed automatic as discussed previously.
It appears that the base price will be about $62k. This car will not have too many options available, mostly the 10 speed tranny.
By contrast, the new Corvette Grand Sport has the Z06 wide body and vents/skirts as well as the Z06 suspension. However, it has the non supercharged V8 that puts out 460hp (instead of the Z06 and ZL1's 650hp). The advantage of this is that it will not overheat like the Z06 is known to do. Base price of the Grand Sport is $66,445.00. It will not have the 10 speed as an option, but the old 8 speed that wasn't particularly well regarded.
If you add the Z07 package (which includes carbon ceramic brakes) it will add $8k to the sticker price.
I'm honestly not sure which car I would rather have. I really love the looks of the new Camaro's front end. But I can't stand the rear end. The complete opposite is true with the Corvette. Can't stand the grille, but absolutely love the back end.
One thing that works against the Camaro is the fact that there are a billion of them out there, but I do think the ZL1 distinguishes itself well with that big cowl on the hood. Corvette's aren't exactly rare around here either.
Which would you choose between the two?
