Quoted from thedefog:

That should be on there. Dunno how I missed it. I was dissapointed with Twilight Princess, played like 6-7 hours of it and totally lost interest. Afterward, the only thing that disc was good for was the Trucha bug so I could install emulators on my friend's Wiis.
That's right... My Epona's name is "98SEJR908j23982uy(&*#@YR9283yr089YUFY(Y(#Y@E()*u@#(*Eu938ur93w4f98hj498fjh98J#(*@(*#@J(*@#JD(*#JFo9h3fo*&@#OF798@#H9#f" STACK OVERFLOW

Ha the good old Twilight Hack. I had to borrow a copy of Twilight Princess from a friend. Before all this banner bomb/letter bomb/Super Stack Smash stuff. I even have a USB Gecko.

Inserts installed. Getting ready to stencil a couple of spots of white on the PF, then the overlay should be on by early next week.

wow you went all out, some would just sand the playfield with the inserts still in, then go back with fine grit sandpaper to polish them back. Are you going to do a coat of clear before you apply the overlay?

Yeah, I wanted to change some of the insert colors and I noticed some of them were getting a bit cracked.

Yes, I'll be just using a polyurethane gloss clear before I put down the overlay. Then it will be getting a PC overlay over the art. Should turn out pretty nice.

I now have audio playing pretty well. Spent the last couple of evenings ripping all of the call outs from the movie that I wanted. Not sure if they'll all be used or not but at least it's done.

#257 9 years ago

Looks fucking awesome.

I love seeing the progress. When it's done are you only bringing this to the florida show, or any chance of it traveling to other pinball shows?

I would love to get it out to other shows for sure. It will just depend on my schedule. I look forward to watching people play it.

Great project

Stenciling the white areas on the playfield now. Once this is done, I'll put down a couple coats of clear before the art goes on.

Tons of updates this week! All kinds of fun stuff happening as we approach the Free Play Florida show. I have exactly 2 weeks to get this ready to play. Holy sh%t.

First. Stencil of the white I needed under the playfield art and then added a couple coats of clear.

Next, Rich from This Old Game printing the PF art. This is just a little tease. More photos to come.

Finally, Rich just couldn't let the side art alone. LOL! He proposed this to me and I jumped all over it. The side art went from subtle to full wrap. Ha! These machines weren't meant to blend in, so here you go!

Love the new cabinet art.

Didn't understand the white on the playfield at first, now I do. You're printing clear (including insert text), so there is no white in it. Did you paint the white by transferring the shape, or did you just do a separate sticker?

Thanks on the cab art.

Rich made a stencil from the original PF art. So the printed art should line up perfectly.

Really nice man! Be proud!

Thanks! I'm really happy on how this is turning out. I can't wait to get the PF together this weekend and see it light up for the first time.

#268 9 years ago

I'm really loving your machine so far.

#269 9 years ago

That cab art looks great

#270 9 years ago

Fantastic!

#271 9 years ago

This is top notch! great job. Art is beautiful.

Your awesome re-theme has got me thinking about doing my own.

Can you explain how you removed the art from the playfield. Did you just sand it off or did you use paint remover? Also did you install new inserts? How did you sand them and the playfied flat? When that was done what type of clear did you use and how did you apply it? Thanks.

Do it! I've learned so much about how pinball machines work by doing this project. I had very little knowledge when I started.

Here's the rundown on what I did to the playfield:

- I removed the original inserts by heating them up and knocking them out.
- Sanded the playfield down to the wood. Started with 80 grit, then 120, then 220. I used a random orbit sander.
- Installed new inserts.
- I then used 120 grit on the inserts to sand them flush with the playfield. Then 220 to finish it all off.
- Since my art was printed on a clear vinyl, I had to do some spot stencils in white for certain parts of my art that I wanted white.
- Then applied a clear coat using a Minwax Polyurethane clear. I applied with a brush. Once dry I used a 320 sand paper and sanded it by hand lightly. This layer of clear was just so I have a good surface to apply the playfield art. I want to apply it using the wet decal application method. I couldn't do that on the bare wood.

Let me know if you have any further questions on that. I'm happy to help.

Great info on your playfield process. Absolutely love this theme (one of my all-time favorite films), and I can't wait to see it all put together!

#276 9 years ago

Great job man !

#277 9 years ago

Absolutely amazing!!!

#278 9 years ago

Thanks for all of the kind words. I've been so stoked on making all of my progress public and having you all along for the ride. I truly appreciate all of the help and encouragement from the community.

I actually have the PF art down now and just put the clear pc layer on top. I can't wait to show everyone what this looks like.

I can't wait to see it, based on the other art.

On VHS of course!!!

#286 9 years ago

How did it go with the 7 year old? I LOVE Goonies but I haven't gotten around to letting my kids watch it yet. They are 6 & 7.

#287 9 years ago

Well we took a small break for her to do a playdate. We'll finish later tonight. So far so good. The beginning has a pretty constant flow of "sh*t" but we know when all of them occur and just laugh or mute it briefly.....being a parent is so weird. But so far she loves it. Lots of adventure and she loves treasure and exploring!!

There are exceptions for cursing. This is one of them.

#289 9 years ago

I agree. My sister said "Great choice. A perfect family quotable movie" so i guess she doesn't care about her potty mouth kids, hahaha

#290 9 years ago

Haha, there are a good number of "Sh%ts" in the movie. A few of them are in the audio for my pin, ha!

Put in about 23 hours of work on it over the weekend. Here's what I got done:

- PF artwork applied
- Clear overlay applied over the art.
- All hardware installed on top of the PF with new rubber
- All hardware installed under the playfield. Just have a couple of things left to solder up.
- Installed all new Comet LED's throughout.

Still left to do before the Free Play Florida show. (November 21st - 23rd)

- Install PF plastics. Rich is printing this week and I should have them by Friday.
- Install art around the coin door. Again, Rich is printing this week.
- Install pf in cab tonight and test the components. Excited to see it light up!
- Install switches for the audio triggers. Waiting to test the game before I do that.

That's about it. After that, it's testing and fine tuning if time allows. Only 9 more days.

I'll be firing out a bunch of updates over the next 7 days or so.

Rich from TOG just shot me over a pic of the apron that he screened this morning. I'm pretty damn excited.
