I'm down to the last issue on my Getaway machine, and I'm having no luck diagnosing it on my own.

Upon power up, the plunger coil activates and causes the fuse at F102 to blow. I swapped the high current driver board, replaced the fuse, and i've still got the same issue. I've never worked with an auto plunger before, and I'm not sure where to start.

Has anyone encountered this before with an auto plunger?

Verify that the coil is installed physically oriented properly. If the coil lugs are facing the wrong way they can short to the cabinet metals/safety ground.

There is a TIP 102 predriver on the power driver board for the TIP 36 high current driver board that maybe shorted.

Check carefully that the lug of the shooter coil isn't shorting out against the cabinet/prop rod.

You might want to put electrical tape on the lugs.

Update: Looks like Q52 on the main WPC board is shorted, going to pull out the board and replace it. Will follow up!

And there is a predriver for that TIP102 that needs to be replace also. I think it is a 2n5401.

Does the coil stay activated or locked? I had a coil lock issue that burned out one of the fuses. (and the coils as well) The fix was changing out one of the ribbon cables. Hope this helps.

Replaced Q52 and the pre-driver - this did fix the plunger issue, it was working great! All seemed fine for a moment, and then the DMD started going out. I reseated cables to the DMD, and now the machine won't boot up. Usually when you turn on a WPC game, you hear five or six quiet pulses through the speaker (before the initial post/"bing" bally/midway tone) - the game keeps making quiet pulsing noises. No initial post.

Anyone ever heard of that? Thinking I messed something up with the Dot Matrix Driver board, I swapped them with my T2 - and they're both fine. I'm stumped, and I don't want to keep blindly swapping stuff over in fear of causing more damage.

Check your ribbon cables...especially the little short one between WPC and PD boards.

Checked and reseated ribbon cables, thanks for the tip.

I took a deep breath and decided to get into the backbox with a flashlight. Turns out the harness for J117 (12v to DMD) was hiding on the underside of the board, whoops! Plugged it in, and we're good to go! Thanks for your help everyone!
