Did you use the decal designs that were posted somewhere on pinside before? I plan to embark on the same journey, as soon as my Bride (BoP 2.0) is done

#105 7 years ago

Great job, something to be proud of for sure.
Love the shifter knob...

Yes sir. I work midnight Patrol and also work courts during the week in the daytime for overtime. Daycare for two kids is no joke...

I bought the decals from classic arcades.

Hey guys , its been a couple of weeks since ive been able to get back at it. I took a fall off a ladder two weeks ago and seriously messed up my knee. Couldnt even walk at all for a week. just getting back up and around.
Finally got a few more things done today. Got the boards all cleaned up and installed in the head. Just need to put the light board door back on. IMG_20160625_142909_(resized).jpgIMG_20160625_142909_(resized).jpg New coin door is in and looks great. Im pretty much now at the point where the cab and head are leaving the garage and heading down to the basement man cave to put everything back together but i need to wait until i can get a few friends to help as i cant lift anything yet.
Its getting there !!

Sorry to hear about your fall. I fell off a ladder onto the concret floor in the garage on New Years day, not a bruse but slit 2 fingers real good and bled like a stuck pig for a few minutes. Didn't go to the doctor so no stitches but I do have a couple of scars now. We gotta be more careful.

#120 7 years ago

Thanks Paul, yeah, it sucks! Im also hitting 50 and we sure dont heal like we used too .

#121 7 years ago

Still waiting on help from friends to bring the cabinet downstairs (much easier bringing it down head and cab seperately than together) so I can get this puppy back together. I can't wait! But I'm already thinking I'm going to go through the playfield underneath and make sure everything is perfect. I did rebuild all of the flippers and other mechs about 6mnths ago but might as well make sure while it's out of the machine. Also thinking I might tear down the top to clean and polish again even though I already did it 6mnths ago. Again, why not as its out of the machine. What do you guys think?

#122 7 years ago

Hows the knee doing?

#123 7 years ago
Quoted from cosmokramer:

Thanks for asking. Slowly getting better. Going to take a few more weeks at least before I get full range of motion back but the specialist doesn't think I've done any major damage. Going to be doing physio for a bit. Should help. .

Thanks! Just delayed waiting to get my rails, legs , and lockdown bar back from a friend who is doing a high polish on them. Should be back at it very soon and will continue posting .

#126 7 years ago

Hi there! This is looking awesome! Very very smart! Makes me want to restore my cabinet and head! As my playfield is very clean indeed!

Great work! Keep it up!

I'm thinking of powder coated black for the lockdown and legs? What you think?

im still waiting on a few parts to finally finish this project. Getting a little frustrated but my buddy has been really busy and he is professionally polishing some parts for free so i cant complain i guess. Hopefully getting them soon. In the meantime i am doing some tweaking and fixing of a few things under the playfield while i have the time. One thing that soo many Getaway owners have issues with is the ramp divertor assembly. Mine has worked ok but has always had the odd weird binding issues that so many of these pins have. I realized that it was one of the few assemblies that i had not fully ripped apart and rebuilt. Upon inspection i realized that the main bracket on mine had been welded at some point. Just wont do for this restore. I ordered a new bracket , springs, plunger assenbly and coil sleeve. Fully rebuilt and adjusted and functions flawlessly now.
You can see the weld job done in some of the photos

I think i have now rebuilt every mech under the playfield. This puppy should play very well for many years to come once i get er done ! lol So close i can taste it! Hoping to start showing the finishing touches within the next week or two.

#131 7 years ago

Also cleaned and levelled all inserts. I had no idea how dirty the underneath of the inserts could get. All clean now.

#132 7 years ago

Also replaced the playfield slider assemblies. I dont know anyone who owns a Getaway with the originals that still work properly.

Looking for some opinions.. Im now on the list for the new Getaway playfields. The rerun should be starting early next year. Being in Canada and our shitty dollar its going to cost me around $1200.00 bucks for it. My playfield is in pretty amazing shape with almost no wear except for a little bit missing around a couple inserts which is barely noticable. Shooter lane has the typical dark wear. I know its in pretty great shape compared to most but i know a new playfield would put this machine over the top but is it really worth it ? This is not an "A" list machine and i wonder if i would really get the money back if i happened to sell it down the road. (not that i plan to any time soon but we all know what its like). Im sure i could get a decent dollar for my original playfield (guessing around $300.00). What do you guys think ?

#136 7 years ago

Is there any chance you could get more shafts made for the shifter? I would love to change my knob but want to be able to return to original. Thanks BTW your Getaway looks amazing, hoping to get mine looking that nice soon.

#137 7 years ago

It would probably cost you less to get someone to restore your current one.

#138 7 years ago
Quoted from flashinstinct:

Here getting someone to clear a playfield is 350. Leveling inserts and touching up adds even more to that.

Since he has already done an amazing job on the cabinet it might be worth to spring for a new pf and sell the old one. Then he could sell it as fully restored and it would being a pretty penny over an average one.

BTW OP amazing work!

#139 7 years ago

Wow, that looks amazing! Nice work Superbee!

#140 7 years ago

Looks fantastic....I would put in a new playfield and sell the old one to offset the cost of the replacement.

Hey guys,
Just giving you an update as its been soo long ! Still waiting for my legs, rails, and lockdown bar . My friend has been just too bust so i am going to pick them up from him tomorrow and get them powder coated red. Would have loved the polish chrome but i need to get this finished. Thanks for all the kind words and should be getting back on this very soon.
