Can you remove yours and give it a soak in evaporust? maybe steel wool and coca-cola to remove the rust and clean it up?

#102 10 months ago

Yea, I’ll try that. Do you have the Original connectors terminals?

#103 10 months ago

Yes, I plan to tape it off like I did the sides and spray the colors to try and match the rest.

Quoted from ss-pinball:

I really like the look of the Firepower II below the coin door.
Are you planning to put the graphic Williams "W" over the speaker below the backglass?

Quoted from Gorgar666:

I’m waiting on delivery to it as well, are all the words used? I know “3” can’t be used....I guess...

Mostly is says Firepower , Fire and Power. It does seem to say the other words when the game is over but I cant figure out what triggers it. If I get more time I may take a look at the roms to try and make a custom one to better utilize the speech. I know there are guides out there to help with the old William's coding. If I end up not touching that part I still think it was worth the upgrade.

swillie details how to do it either early on this board or on the original Firepower fan page...time frame would have been a little before I started this board if it is on the other one

What pitch is best for this game the normal 7°?

#107 9 months ago

I'll admit it, I bought the game because it was cheap, and even if it sucked I could make a couple hundred bucks. I had a Firepower for a bit, and enjoyed it. General consensus was this one is worse, so my expectations were low. This is probably my least favorite era of game. I think it's primarily because they never play well in the wild. I just finished shopping it out, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm up to 2.1 million. I guess the GC is set a lot lower on modern games, 2.5M is a little bit of a challenge. I'm not having any luck hitting the multiball start up the center. It seems more likely from a ricochet of the bumpers. The target tests fine with a ball. I swear I'm hitting it, maybe only gracing the edge.

I'm about 50/50 on the multiball target between hitting it and benefiting from a ricochet from the bumpers...and again, putting the ball up there TO ricochet was really my first strategy.

I love this era. It is my favorite. If you think about what comes in the nineties lots of those pins just have horrible art and wire-form ramps and are all similar. Yeah, they are fun, Rampy. Fast. There's a lot more fan-pattern layouts there though.
I think you get a lot of pinball for your money in williams 6-11 games and the corresponding Ballys (I even like the art on many Gottliebs from that era...don't like the feel of them though).
Anyway, I think that FP2 is unfairly dumped on. It's solid, especially when it is dialed in.

I'm not sure. I monkeyed with mine 1/4 turn of the nuts at a time...checking the level from everywhich way until it felt better.

I put LEDs in the backbox it is nasty bright... But I don’t wanna put incandescenceS....

I have LEDs in mine...Comet natural warm white non-ghosting and it still looks like a pinball machine

#112 9 months ago

My FPII backglass had a mix of warm & cool frosted white 1-SMD, Pinball Life "Ablaze" brand. Didn't seem too bright to me and I'm pretty sensitive to that stuff. There's a lot of masking area, helps keep the overall brightness down. I've heard people recommend using those cheap old flat-top style frosted LEDs. They kinda suck on playfields, but great for turning down backglass brightness.

That’s exactly what I did. Found some old LEDs that I was unhappy with elsewhere. Really dim, all is good now!

What pitch level in degrees works best for this Game? Almost got it ready to go.

mine is pretty dialed in at 7.5 degrees

Wow, how’s the game play?

#118 9 months ago
Quoted from Gorgar666:

I like it. It's fast. Not nearly the number of airballs that it had at first. It made it a bit more challenging. The shots were "slam dunkish" before...now there is more skill involved.
I think it is a little more steep than what it should be but I think the previous owner did the flipper upgrade, so I can get away with it.
(Either that or my gauge isn't terribly accurate and it's at about 7 degrees).

Nice blue vent below the speaker. I like it.

Anyone have a layout/parts list showing the rubbers needed for the playfield? I don't see it in the Operator's Handbook. PM me if you can help. Thanks!

What attaches to this bracket? Do I have wire harness support(s) missing? Don’t like these wires resting on the transformers.

Metal grating cover is missing. Prevents accidentally touching the power supply.
Look over to the left And rear, Vacant screw holes...used to mount the metal mesh grading.

Would you or anyone be able to send a picture of what the grating looks like...even a picture through the open coin door perhaps? I'll look to fabricate one like the original. Thanks.

Removed the playfield to install a missing guard over the transformers. Reinstalled and plugged everything back in (can't see how I could have plugged anything into the wrong connector). Now when I turn the game on, the right flipper immediately locks on. What's going on? The flipper switch (at the button) is open, but even if it was closed I wouldn't think the flipper would activate unless the game had booted and a game started. Any ideas what's going on?

Any chance you swapped the white and black playfield plugs around? I believe they were used in this system, but I could be wrong.

Well, as a matter of fact, that's exactly what I did. So I corrected that and now the game doesn't boot. What did I fry? All the fuses check good.

There was a thread a while back where someone did this. I will see if I can find it. I think he fried some ICs on his boards but not exactly sure which ones.

Actually this is the one I was looking for.

Complete F-I-R-E-P-O-W-E-R three times, then shoot the ramp.

#141 8 months ago

Thanks. Is there a Way to Make that easier. Lol

#142 8 months ago

It's easier on later balls since letters carry over. For example, if you start ball 2 missing one letter, you just need to complete that one letter and spell it twice more to get credit for three completions on a single ball. Also a good thing to focus on in multiball.

Ahh... good info. Thanks. I was racking my brain on this. Couldn’t find any info...

Metal-mods making me decals to make my own FP2 Caps. Seeing that they are unavailable....this is placed on a blue cap.

FP2 isn't the only pin that uses those caps. I think Laser Cue and maybe even another title or two use them.

Some folks use Firepower caps or just mod out like you have.

I added FP2 to the Official Hardtops thread some time ago.
I agree it would be pretty nice to have a sexy new playfield...or even waterslide decals...or replacement plastics...or bumper caps

Grand lizard had 2750 Made
Fp deuce 3400
Seems like it’s possible to have a Htop made for it if looking at production numbers as a basis. Not to mention majority of fp2 playfields looks like ass.
(And nothing agains the lizard)
