Hi-

First post here as I'm hopefully a new Firepower owner tomorrow. I've been trying to do some research today to understand what CPU board may be missing from the FirePower unit I'm looking to buy. From the boards behind the backglass, is it the Driver board that is missing?

What I've heard is the main things to focus on is the backglass, playfield and cabinet on these machines as the rest is easier to replace. Can anyone help me inform what the missing board may be and the cost to fix (ballpark)?

Thanks in advance, really eager to get my first pinball and getting a fairly good deal on this one!

Entering Diagnostic Mode challenges...

All, from what I understand, the dip switch should be in the "down" position while I hit advance to start running through the options. I cannot get the switch to do anything currently. Note that the "high score reset" still does work.

Is this a function of tracking down this wire and looking for a short? Trying to troubleshoot this first as I also have sound issues and trying to troubleshoot those solenoids. I have no speech and sound either.

Done a lot of lurking and searching, but no silver bullets yet.

Note I have a rotten dog mpu/driver board and no 40 connector pin.

The 1J4 Cable had a loose wire. Repinned plug.... and in business on the solenoid test. Timely lessons but starting to learn!

Firepower sound troubleshooting?

Hi again, posting some questions to make sure I'm going at troubleshooting the Sound / Speech board correctly. I'm currently not getting any speech or sound out of my FirePower pinball machine. Secondly, my skills in circuit board repair are non existant, and I'd say I'm a novice at soldering.

I've gone through the diagnostics on the machine and validated through solenoid testing that none of the sounds are working along with the credit knocker and credit lockouts. I'm assuming when those solenoids are tested I should at minimum hear a credit knock which I'm not.

Given the above, I've started looking at solenoid drive 9-16 (2J9). Should I repin these connections as most of the solenoids on that are not working first? I'm ok buying a new sound / speech board for lack of circuit testing skills, but want to understand if there's any thing else I should check before making the purchase.

The sound / speech test directly from the board results in no sounds. When I turn the "volume up" I do hear a louder hum off the speaker.

Thanks for any help anyone can give!

I got a good amount of time to work on my FP today. Finished up the hardtop and most of the pop bumpers. Cabinet sprayed with rust oleum last coat as well. Almost done and can’t wait to show it off!

My firepower is almost finished. Now to just get some new pop bumper caps! Then hook it back up and ensure all my soldering worked out!

I had a botched cabinet paint job so some retro refurb can decals were what the doctor ordered! Hardtop also installed, now for just a slight flipper adjustment as well.....

Now that I have the machine all wired up, I’m having some trouble starting a new game.

All the trough switches look like the dads are OK and switches are closed as shown in the photo below. Credit button has some wire splices but as far as I can tell all connections are made there and were working prior to the hardtop install.

Rotten dog MPU has the two LEDs the flash wants and remain unlit and game stays in attract mode.

I can’t seem to get a game in diagnostic mode either. What does mode not work without the game booting properly? Any help is appreciated thanks on advance while I continue to hunt down this issue.

Ignore that! Cleaning the switches is all it took. Now to figure out every adjustment I need to make. Pop bumpers look like I did something wrong as well with setting those up. Ughhhh!

Joining the club for the first time. Pretty good condition in my opinion. Has a new Rottendog MPU, but game won’t start up fully as it blows one of the fuses when you press start. Haven’t done any troubleshooting yet but hoping to look at it tomorrow. [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Looks great! Play the heck out of it before you decide to do anything major! The projects can get out of hand quickly. Looks like a new set of rubbers and a bit of research and this thing will be rocking! So jealous of that coin door skin. The plastics on this machine look almost brand new.

Quick question. I'm having a problem with some dim lights on Row 2 of the lamp matrix (Black / Red wire). All lights on this row are dimly lit. I did do some fiddling on adjusting some switches after I put on my hardtop.

I know I did something, but is this more of a function of a diode not making contact or a crossed wire? I've looked at all lights on the circuits and it appears they all have contact and diodes are in place from what I can see on them.
