Thanks for the recommendation! I just went through and downloaded almost everything I could from the archive.

Is there a way to share those downloads here?

It would probably be too many files to post, but here's the link from the archive site: https://web.archive.org/web/20190914005207/http://blackknightpinball.co.uk/wp

The majority of the site is accessible with the link.

I'm cleaning up the coin door, it's freaking filthy! And I found a loose white (yellowed?) and purple wire. I'm assuming it goes to one of the diagnostic switches or the switch mounted below the diagnostic panel on the coin door. Can anyone help me out with its correct location please. I offer up a shiny door picture as tribute.

It connects to the slam switch tab along with the non-banded side of the diode.

So, did you fund it with money from selling pre-order spots?

New member of the club and first post. My left flipper is sticking because of a mushroomed coil stop. Whole flipper mechanisms seem odd. The coils are SFL-20-300 30-800 with short coil sleeves which I understand were used in pre-FP games like Gorgar. The coil stops are not built in but are screw in/ bolt on through a plate which has two holes, one of which has return spring attached. Photos attached. Does anyone know what I have here and the recommended course to replace the mushroomed coil stop or upgrade the flipper mechs?

The flipper assemblies on your Firepower are Gottlieb not Williams.

Hello John, As Vector said, The base plate on a Williams is much wider.

This link takes you directly to the *When Things Don't Work: Flipper/Drop Target Problems & Upgrade* section.

Excellent info on all the issues with late 70's Williams flippers.

Which version?

https://www.pinball4you.ch/okaegi/pro_soft.html

system 6, system 6 + 7 digit displays, or system 7 version?

None of them should require new sound roms.

Looks like IPDB scrubbed all the pre-patched versions of these. Pinball universe might have them.

If you want to order from someone Astill entertainment is a good place to get them.

Thanks so much for your replies. If I was to take a minimalist approach for the moment given that the flippers otherwise work fine, could I replace the stop with this https://www.rtbb.com.au/product/gottlieb-coil-stop-and-nut-assembly-a-4862/

Maybe not the answer you're looking for, I don't know the Gottlieb assemblies so I can't comment on that - but I hate spending effort and money on something I know I'll just replace later. My choice would be WPC-era flipper mechanism replacements since they have the bolt-on coil stops vs. the original parts which are integrated to the bracket, so that's an upgrade from original right off the bat. They fit correctly, work great, aren't expensive, and aren't a hack.

Mind you, you still need the correct coils for your game, not what someone might supply with a "fully loaded" WPC flipper assembly. SFL-19-400/30-750, and be sure you have the correct EOS switches, too. The regular WPC style EOS switches will burn up quickly in a Firepower. On games with the high current EOS switch they are normally open at rest.

For any firepower lovers, here's 1:11 long video of my firepower resto. Bill is amazing. Mylar removal starts around 13 minute mark. It's a long video but some of us listen to longer podcasts of less interesting topics. So enjoy...

On flipper assemblies with High Current tungsten EOS switches, the EOS switch is closed
at rest, and open when the flippers are energized.

Quoted from McSquid:

I successfully added speech to my Firepower 2 tonight! I love it!
In case anyone attempts this in the future...
I used a new speech board from pinballpcb (With original firepower roms):
http://www.pinballpcb.com/SpeechBoard.html
My sound board did not have the 40(?) pin connector but had the mounting holes for it. I asked the guys at pinballpcb if they carried those connectors and they included one with my order.
once I got the connector and speech board installed it didn't work, some research showed I needed to cut the W1 jumper (its actually a 0 ohm resistor)
Then I flipped switch #2 on top of the sound board and that enabled speech. (the one closer to the edge of the board)

[quoted image]

I know this post was 5 years ago, but I wanted to thank McSquid for his information. Did the Speech addition mod on my Firepower II today and love it! Seems like this is how it should have been from the factory. I get they were cutting costs at the time, but it seems like a different game. Or maybe I'm just crazy. LOL

I still need to adjust the speech / sound balance volume but you get the idea.

Sorry. I might have my info backwards as it's been many years since I've had to fight any flipper issues. Clearly I got it right back then though because the games still work! LOL.. I do have WPC style flipper bases in my Firepower, btw. Thanks for any corrections.

Looking for a backglass. I know there's one available, but not exactly the condition I'm looking for. If anyone has a nice one and might be able to deliver to TPF let me know.

#4329 1 year ago

Last year when I was at TPF, there was a vendor (maybe Mayfair?) there that had several NOS backglasses for around 250. I was highly tempted, but didn't want to have to deal with getting it back up here... Depending on your price range, that might be an option for you.

I added a 10” subwoofer and amp to my Firepower last week. Holy crap what an intense upgrade. This game shakes my whole house now, especially when you hit the 1-6 targets the first time!

I'm a newbie owner and new to pinside. I just bought Firepower. How do I join this club?

#4332 1 year ago

You just did! Welcome to the madness of pinball playing, collecting, and fixing. I recommend making a donation to Pinside, and update your profile, at least location wise. That way, you may find there are others close by to visit or swap stories.

Up at the top of the page is a star and its labeled favorite topics - click on that for this string (Club). After that, you can go to the Topics tab and click on favorites to only see this string. However, I personally look at front page so I can see all new posts. I find I can learn a lot from other posts, and oftentimes find their fixes and comments are applicable to other machines that I have.

I know a lot of people keep their games on free play in the home, but I like having my game on credits so I can hear that sweet knocker when I'm making the game my b!tch....the problem is that firepower (and probably all williams of this era) has a wimpy sounding knocker that won't impress anyone.

I searched on this forum for some ideas to make it louder. I decided to try probably the easiest thing and moved it so its against the side of the cabinet.

Since I laid it horizontally I had to switch out the plunger and add a spring. The ground braid didn't reach so I used a jumper wire to ground (a bit hacky looking I know)....I'll get some actual ground braid on my next parts order but for now this works.

The result is a very loud knocker that let's everyone know the boss is in town. It could be easily converted back to how it originally was, though I don't know why you would ever want to. Let me know what you guys think.

I'd like to wire some type of tornado siren or something when I'm about to roll it. Right now I just have to yell for everyone to come down to the basement but that doesn't create the sense of urgency the situation deserves.

New backglass just arrived from Mayfair. Per the seller these were reproductions done by Williams in the 90's.

Initial thoughts: first off, the packaging job was very well done, this thing was bulletproofed. Well done on the sellers part.

The Mirroring looks really good, pictures definitely don't do it justice.

There are some Noticeable color variations. The main red lettering doesn't seem as deep and looks a tad washed out when in the machine lit up, The 2 blue starship only have one tone of blue instead of 2, the fireballs around the planets don't have the red like the original.

All in all I like it. I whish the colors were more true to the original but it looks pretty good regardless.

My original glass has a lot of flaking, and several large scratches. It's not as noticeable in the pictures but you can really see the damaged areas when its in the machine with the lights on. I'm going to triple thick the orignal and possibly try my hand at repainting it.

This is only loosely related. A friend of mine reworked the art for my multi-pin. Coos did his magic on it and produced it for me.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. I use the Pinball Technologies NW7 instead of the Rottendog. I have four playfields that I play in it. I had to move a few connector pins around and do some custom wiring. I'll have a proper post coming on it soon.

One is for 12v mods and the other is for any 5v that I might add.
So far on the 12 is the amplifier, the LEDs for the cab, and other LED strip for the topper.

Still room for my wish list of:
A shaker
Air raid siren
Fog machine
Beacon

Not sure what kind of 5v additions will come along as time goes on but it’s there as an option.
