I forgot I had edited the above file to make the keylines wider when I did mine. I actually may have made the circles a little wider than original to make sure I could adjust for alignment on the playfield printing. My file is a pdf, not sure if it will attach correctly...

The 5X actually needed to be flipped horizontally and then vertically.

Now that I look more closely... The 5 on the arrow is now different than the rest as well. I'll have to check what the original 5 looks like.

The fonts on this game are all screwy. Look at the 5 in the arrow compared to the 5X. Some of the 0’s are different on the playfield also. Hard to say if it’s intentional or as Bob Ross would say “happy accident”

Missing light socket...is it just a regular bulb or flasher that goes there?

Also can anyone verify the ground braid and yellow wire should attach to light socket?

Slightly crispy connector here. Never ordered these before. Anyone able to give me a part number or a link to correct part. Also any recommendations on a reasonably priced Molex tool?

That is a GI bulb location. Standard bayonet #44/#47 type bulb. Solder the bare braided wire to the socket frame and the yellow to the tip of the socket.

The housing being crispy is no problem if it doesn't bug you ascetically. You can get all those parts at Great Plains Electronics.

Seems I’m only finding the 5%. Or does anyone know of compatible replacements?

Doesn’t the percentage mean tolerance from the nominal value? Wouldn’t 5% be more accurate than 10%? Seems like the 5% ones would work fine.

I think these might be it but based on the design I thought they’d be the other ones towards the center of the board. The description matches but the look resembles the other resistors

I believe the round ones are the really old style and are no longer made. The rectangle ones will work.

Yes, the percentage is indeed the tolerance. A 5% resistor has better tolerance than a 10% which only means it will be closer to the claimed value of the resistor (27 ohms in this case).

I second what the others have said, these really should be replaced with resistors with a higher power rating, like the 5W devices Timerider linked.

Your other (better) options is to replace the bipolar power transistors in the lamp matrix with MOSFETS. instructions are in the thread Budwin linked. This GREATLY reduces the heat generated by the lamp matrix reducing backbox temps extending the life of the boards and backglass.

Initially I was going to buy all components and do the jumper method with the mosfets but these board have a lot of acid damage and although I enjoy the process of repairing and doing board work I’m thinking about just getting the combo board from arcadeshop. We’ll see...

Hi everyone, I'm new to the club.
Just got my firepower before thanksgiving, which is also the very first pinball I own.
I totally was into the machine after testing it at CAX this summer and wanted one.

The machine was not working when I got it, but it was really small issues I was able to quickly fix. The batteries were starting to leak but fortunately it did not start to corrode the mpu. Everything electronically is working fine even though I will recap the sound board.

The backglass is in very decent shape, there are only few spots that would require some touch ups.

The playfield part has some weaknesses, one target is a little bit off, few parts here and there needs to be changed, the left flipper broke while my son actively tested the new rubbers. But nothing really problematic, even for a beginner like me.

The playfield art and plastic is where the previous owners were the most creative and where we'll end up probably spend most of our time in giving the machine the love it deserves. In addition to the classic missing art in some part of the planet/ship, The previous owners decided to color the playfield at some spots but also to make their own plastic cover for the left target. I will take some pictures later and share that with you, you'll sure "enjoy it".

I'll share my journey here and I will probably ask some questions time to time, but I will make sure to carefully read through the forum first as it already contains a lot of extremely valuable information.

Well, i just got my Firepower a week ago and started taking it apart.

Playfield needs some touch up and will receive a clearcoat.
Boards are out and are being revised
Cabinet needs repainting
and Backglass needs a treatment or needs to be replaced.

Here is my question, does anyone have a high ress scan from the backglass? I want to try and print it on some sort of sheet.

I'm selling a project machine if anyone is interested. I have already converted it to drop targets. I tested it, then got involved in something else and partially disassembled the game.

Hi all, I picked up a #firepower that had been sitting in a barn for over a decade so it was subject to some pretty wild Michigan temperature extremes. I've spent the last two months doing some extensive repairs (perhaps I'll detail them sometime--it's quite a list), but I just completed the installation of a Hardtop so the playfield is now close to 10/10 in appearance. I've noticed when comparing to other pictures that I am missing a ball gate near the top right side of the playfield (near the "E" in "FIRE"). Does anyone know where I can pick something like this up?

IMHO save yourself and just buy them from PinballPimp.

I did it and it was hard enough getting the paint on the right amount, I can't imagine fighting with the stencils too.

Mmmmmmm! Mine should be here tomorrow! I didn't think of this before but I wonder if the playfield is silk screened or their new digital printing tech? I was assuming silk screened but there's no mention of the process used on their website.

Is it really a firepower without cupped and raised inserts though? JK, looks awesome.

I am going to try to restore my Firepower playfield. If any of you who has a new playfield can scan this spot and mail it to me, I would appreciate it.

If you cannot scan it, please take a photo. Place the camera as perpendicular to the playfield as possible.

The alternative is a shitty PF or Hardtop with 35+ year old inserts
You'll never see it when playing. I had worse on my High Speed PF.....I never see it, ever.

Local bar has a couple playfield coffee tables. One is a Firepower.

If I could drop a bit under a grand, and have the worst issue my FP2 playfield has be some insert crazing... Well, where's the pre-order list? I wanna put my deposit down.

All of this stuff is made using processes with inherent variation, especially as time passes and materials cure, shrink, expand, flex, warp, and otherwise physically transform in ways what are entirely beyond the control of the artisans that shaped them.

First post here as I'm hopefully a new Firepower owner tomorrow. I've been trying to do some research today to understand what CPU board may be missing from the FirePower unit I'm looking to buy. From the boards behind the backglass, is it the Driver board that is missing?

What I've heard is the main things to focus on is the backglass, playfield and cabinet on these machines as the rest is easier to replace. Can anyone help me inform what the missing board may be and the cost to fix (ballpark)?

So to clarify further... There is no board really "missing". The board linked above replaces both the CPU and driver board. Thus the empty space in your pic.

The game looks to be in reasonable shape based on those pics as best I can tell.
