Hi Guys, Joined the club this week. Don't ask me what the previous owner was thinking.

Welcome to the club! The backbox looks like an easy fix. You have a fairly decent backglass which seems rare for this title.

Great game!

Quoted from dzorbas:

I grabbed 3 clear plastic saucers/locks (http://ns8313.hostgator.com/~gameshop/product/clear-eject-shield-03-9101-9-copy/) to replace the originals. I installed a regular socket with a green LED at each kickout and wired them to the flashing arrow near each hole. I used a flex head bulb for each one so I could avoid it getting hit by the arm. That's about it. Cheap and easy.
Let me know if you need any more info or pictures. I'm pretty sure if you hunt around the forum someone else has posted info on this.
Good luck!

Looks like the link is broken. Anyone purchased these clear saucers from another vendor?

Have yet to check PBR.

Sorry about the bad link, not sure what happened to that place. Anyway, here's where I originally bought mine. A bit pricier but when you need something, sometimes you don't have a choice...

ebay.com link: Bally Williams Pinball Machine Clear Eject Hole Shield Indianapolis 500 etc

PBR isn't showing clear ones on the site. Marco's also has them cheaper but the clear ones seem to be out of stock. Search for 'eject shield' on the site.

Good luck!

I wasn't sure about LEDs on games of this era but I think this space theme takes to it well.

Did you do anything special or just bought LED's.

The GI are the comet natural white 2835. Most everything else are 5050s except a few incans where even the no-ghosters would ghost.

A strange problem i've noticed about the drop targets that when multiball starts if a ball hits one to soon after the start of multiball, the drop target goes down but doesn't registor the switch. This is a problem because the game can't progress untill all the balls drain and the drop target bank resets. The Mpu, driver board and power supply are all new, repaired and up-graded. The rom is a combo rom checksum: 3F76 with no jumper mod on IC9 and IC10. Also using Anypin NVram. The diodes on the D-target swtches all test good and D-target switches test good in diag. It only does it right after multi-ball starts and happens pretty consistently... I can't get it to do it any other time.m And also, how do i join the club?!

Welcome to the club. Curious if you bought the machine with the drop targets or you did the conversion yourself. My understanding is that there weren't many games produced with the drop targets. Would be interesting to play one and compare it to mine!

Dino Z.

#563 8 years ago

I bought mine for $400 (which was a pile of turds) with the stand-up targets not the drop target banks. Its clear now that the article i was following is wrong and i need to switch over the the horseshoe style drop targets. Although i do have a 3d printer and may be able to find a work around

#564 8 years ago

I've still got a ways to go, such as board work (ugh something something no blanking no drivers no displays arrgh) and I hope to get my backglass touched up well enough to not offend Steve Richie for signing it at Louisville Expo in a couple weeks...

...but from the wreck it was when I got it last May, and being a total n00b when it comes to "pro style" restoration, I'd say my playfield isn't looking too bad now?

Isn't that the CPR playfield in the second picture?

#566 8 years ago

#567 8 years ago

I would love to get my hands on a CPR playfield, and a set of plastics. Maybe in a couple months at Pinfest in Allentown someone will have a set. One can only hope. Anyway, here are some more pics...3Dpinball61_(resized).jpg3Dpinball61_(resized).jpg10264140_10203252040406315_7833808521236762311_o_(resized).jpg10264140_10203252040406315_7833808521236762311_o_(resized).jpg12745991_10205839578973162_3220735174305263511_n_(resized).jpg12745991_10205839578973162_3220735174305263511_n_(resized).jpg12729166_10205839583773282_3066857998949093976_n_(resized).jpg12729166_10205839583773282_3066857998949093976_n_(resized).jpg
Oh and in case any of you missed a thread i started awhile ago here is a link to a project i did last year modeling a Firepower in 3dsMax...
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/3d-pinball-1
I absolutly love Firepower, its always been my favorite pin. I even created a playable version in a little game called Little Big Planet2 with a DC comics theme...

Got an MMpick and a stellar review...

If any of you have a PS3 i would suggest picking up Little big Panet 2(probably pretty cheap now) and give ie a try Its really a frigging vlast to play with a lot of cool stuff you can only do in a video game.

Oh, I wish! I'll take that as a compliment, though. I had to replace all the inserts and then reclear everything, but it wasn't even that easy. You can tell the pf is otherwise original because the "death star" is still slightly vintage yellowed compared to the fresh new inserts.

Wow are you kidding me?! Me and my brother were arguing about it for the longest time! haha I can't believe how that came out. Where did you get the inserts?? And.... How much to do mine!!! lol

Looking for one as well. Can't believe with the demand CPR/PPS won't re-run these (and plastics too!)

#573 8 years ago

never thought about it, let's just say 2k. playfield and plastics are installed but the cab still needs stenciling and backglass is meh.

I don't think anyone ever wants to buy an already restored firepower. I could see someone buying it just for the parts!

#574 8 years ago

Just joined the club!
I was told that it has clean boards but when powered up game would go in to attract mode then reset. I think it needs the 40 pin interconnect replaced and the Firepower adapter replaced. I was told someone came up with a nice adapter but I haven't researched it yet. It needs a good cleaning and new rubbers for sure. I plan on looking for some decals to cover the wear spots on the playfield. This will be my first attempt at repairing a project pin other than shop outs and thorough cleanings / mod installs.

I guess I'll count myself as one of the lucky ones. I managed to score a CPR playfield for around $450 USD. I've also replaced the backglass with a new one and switched all of the bulbs to LEDs. I'm looking at replacing the displays at some point even though they all work. Plastics are okay but a new set wouldn't hurt. Repainting the cabinet is always in the back of my mind.

I think if I sold it for $2K USD I might break even not including my personal time. No plans on selling it though...

I am in the process of doing this same thing.... replacing the inserts, touching up and clearing the playfield. Did you make your own insert decals? If so what did you use, water slide?

You have any more pictures to share? That playfied looks nice!

No i just whipped them up. You are more then welcome to try them if you have a printer. I'll upload them to Thingiverse now. Under "Firepower plastic set"

Awesome! Thanks. I have a couple ideas I wanted to try, myself. This is good motivation.

Those plastics looks great.
Might try a solid yellow plastic underneath them so the lights aren't quite as harsh through the cutouts.
Great idea you had and nice work.

Thanks man This was the first run and i might try doing some differesnt stuff. Still have the other pieces to do but i have to break them in two because the printer is too small.

It looks like you misspelled ENEMY but it is hard to tell from the pictures. I wasn't going to say anything but now that I see they were simply 3D printed, it wouldn't be hard to correct...

Bad news for you, unfortunately. You've got System-7 style drop targets. Firepower needs the earlier 'horseshoe slider' style drops. It's probably going to do a number of strange things depending on how it's wired. The slider style has only a momentary signal when the target drops, and a separate series switch that closes when they're all in the down position.

#589 8 years ago

I have a work around that will enable it to work and it will be more reliable then the older system 6 style.

#590 8 years ago

Another piece. Had to slpit this one into two pieces in order to fit it on the bed. Interesting challange. Uploaded to Thingiverse.

That is my multi year project. Progress was a bit slow due to distractions by other projects, but back on it now. Currently designing the electronics.

Nice work on the 3d printed plastics 3rdaxis! II also was planning to design 3d printed plastics. But your nice parts obsolete that now!

#594 8 years ago

Has anyone added any interesting dynamic / logic-driven mods to their Firepower? I'm interested in creating something for mine, but am haven't come across any other examples.

Anyone have any examples or suggestions on the best way to interface with the lamp or switch matrices? What about the score displays?

#595 8 years ago

A behaviour question for any of you, perhaps this belongs somewhere else. While in free play mode, if you are in the middle of a game, what happens when you hit the start button? I realize that if you do it during player one's first ball it will continue to add additional players. However, I'm finding if I hit the start button after the first ball the game resets and clears all the scores.

Can someone try this on their machine and see if they get the same result? Perhaps I have a "special" feature in my game. Maybe this is how all System 6 games respond.

I'm not too worried about it, just curious.

Thanks,

Dino Z.

That's what's supposed to happen. Does that on System 9 and 11 games too, newer than that I don't know.

That's true for just about every game, ever.
