I have a Peace Paragon 9 ply maple w/ octobons, cowbell tree, timbale, tambourine & woodblock. This setup is surrounded by an array of Zildjian A's which includes 3 crash (14, 15 & 17") 2 splash (6 & 8") a ride (22") & a 14" hi-hat. I also have an early 80's 18" Paiste Switzerland China-type that sounds amazing.

The Peace Paragons are manufactured in Japan. This top Peace model is considered the poor man's DW's. The sound is a deep dark maple sound that is equivalent to the DW sound. I sold a similar sized Pearl Masters to replace w/ the Peace Paragons & I am very pleased w/ this.

I have been playing drums since 1978. I was a kid in forth grade, as soon after I took drum lessons from a three year state champ to learn how to read. After that I went on to play in several established bands for many years, playing semi-professionally all over within a 200 mile radius.

As of now, I consider my drums therapeutic, as everything goes away w/ keeping the groove along the greats. I have a powerful stereo behind my setup & an array of CD's to pick & choose from depending on what I am in the mood for. I prefer prog-rock (Peart, Ehart, Portnoy, Gil Moore, etc.) but play a variety of other styles. Drums & pinball go hand in hand, as both are escapism at it's finest!

I saw neil 4 times and he was always my favorite until I saw terry bozzio not sure i spelled it right.Bozzio was playing with Jeff Beck and I think he stole the show ,very impressive.I left thinking he was the best musician on the stage that night and that included my heroes Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I saw Terry at a small clinic in Bethlehem, PA. He was there with Chad Wackerman. They both had DW sets. Terry's was about 4 times more then Chad's. They were both amazing. They played Zappa's The Black Page together without monitoring each other. They were both in perfect time!
I never saw or heard anything like it. Got to talk to them after and got autographs. Both are wonderful people. Fabulous!

Sold 4 pins last year and got one (LZ). Waiting for Rush in June. Lots of room you cannot see.

Getting older and slower and really only need two kits. I have owned 14 kits. Fun to drum with a drummer friend. I have two (Matt and Nick).

Had Ludwig 10 years. My buddy is buying them. DW was so expensive and I really love them. Gretsch sounds and looks great.

I hate dusting. I give them a quick cleaning a few times every decade! The DW's are stunning in look and sound.

I have been known to go down and stare at them.

If anyone is willing to part with it or knows where to get one I would be grateful. Thanks.

It is digital only. Thanks though. I did print the CP articles from the first link. That will be good enough.

MD screwed up my subscription. I had it for ages. I had every issue including a digital archive at one time. Now I only keep the issues with my favorite drummers.

Something I did over the weekend, tried a new product and method for cleaning cymbals. I always disliked doing it, never got the results I was looking for, until trying Bar Keeper’s Friend.

The difference is night and day, does wonders on old cymbals, and if careful, does great on Brilliant cymbals as well.

Here are some before and after pics:

Edit: Wanted to add, these cymbals range from 18-30+ years old, don’t think I would recommend this stuff for any new/fresh cymbals. These have seen lots of shows, rehearsals, bar scene back when smoking was allowed inside.

What fun is this thread, without more fun pics to go along with it.

Been slowly pulling things out storage, tearing it apart to do some much needed deep cleaning and tuning. Next will be the main snare and mini snare/tom, then on to the rack......eventually I’ll have this set back up, lol.

Included a couple of pics from old shows. One opening up for Styx in ‘03, the other opening for Warrant, Firehouse, Great White, and Jackyl in ‘04

I used this stuff for years... Spray on and wipe off, dont know if they still make it.

With BKF you have to watch it dosent take your labels off. Especially Zildjian

Tried Groove Juice previously, it left chemical burns on the bottom sides of my splashes, not something I use after that.

Agreed, BKF doesn’t do well with labels, but I’m passed wanting to save them, wanted clean great sounding cymbals again, lol. Too many years with other options that just didn’t do very well.

Well decided to say f it, and pulled the rack pieces out to start cleaning. Waiting on parts for the snares getting delivered today anyway.

Hard to believe these few pieces, hold so much of the kit, I always admired that

For anyone who was curious, the rack is mostly Gibraltar, with some Tama parts mixed in. The toms and kick, are Tama Artstar II Custom, main snare is a Tama maple 6.5”x14”(can’t remember the series without looking), and mini snare is a 10” Yamaha effects snare/tom. Zildjian cymbals for most, with a select few others.

Zildjian cymbal cleaner takes some work but does a great job. Zims is easy but not as good as Zildjian cleaner.

lol, no lie, push those products.

Although, there is a crossover: Novus 1 can be used for pinball and/or drum shells & hardware

My latest acquisition, finally picked up a Tama Iron Cobra double pedal, looking forward to how it performs on the kit.

2 weeks later
#83 8 months ago

Well, finally got the point of done cleaning it up and tuning, so today was the day to put it back together

Side note, I’ll need to look at the Iron Cobra double pedal further. The way it mounts to the kick drum, it’s off center and causes the main pedal to tilt slightly to the side. And the crossmember bar doesn’t seem to extend far enough out, like my Gibraltar does. Weird....

Just noticed my 8” & 10” splashes are switched around, will have to correct that, lol.

It is really fun seeing the sets you all play (and a touch of envy). It brings back memories of when I played in high school and college.
I remember seeing Terry Bozzio play with Missing Persons in concert. He was always innovative. I recall that he even had his stands mic‘ed so he could play on them.

I used to play a mesh of a Ludwig Quadra-plus, Zildjians ( always loved their dark crashes), rototoms, and a Simmons electronic set (before they went digital).

Although a lifetime Neil Peart fan, I have to admit to really liking Larnell Lewis. His play with Snarky Puppy is unbelievable, especially when you realize he was sitting in for their regular drummer.

Traded my Tama for a Mapex double tom holder. Added an extendable Mapex clamp to get the 10" at the right spot.

Any of you guys like hot sauce? My buddy made a very hot one for drummers.

https://gingergoat.ca/products/we-got-the-beetsIMG_0207 (resized).pngIMG_0207 (resized).png

#88 8 months ago

I was asked, how can you be sure that it’s for drummers when it says beets instead of beats? I thought the marketing spoke for itself… paradiddle, blast beat, rudimentary and hard hitting animal are all drum references. My friend kris is the sauce maker and a drummer for a small local band named Sex Panther; 60% of the time, they rock all the time. There’s even little drum kits hidden in the background. This sauce is hot as hell and bongo drum approved.

Not letting this thread die, lol.

Picked up a few more snares and snare rack lately, and dug out my Roland SPD-S. Really digging the wood hoop snare at the moment, beautiful sound.

Added the Tama Studio Maple wood hoop, a cheap no name brand I cleaned up and tuned, and a Yamaha 14” I’m having re-wrapped, as it had some damage. Also finished putting the black nickel die-cast hoops on my other Tama maple.

Thanx my man, got two drums joining the family this week, found a 10” & 12” Artstar Custom toms, that will be added. Current 12” is actually a Pearl Export I bought years ago, since it was a close match. Finally replacing it and adding the 10”.

Someday I’ll find an 8” to go with it all

Love your setup, good to see more kits not bare basic, but not completely overdone either. You have a good balance there.

Played in front of a crowd for the first time in something like 17 years this past Saturday. So much fun getting back out there. I played in a crossover-thrash band throughout high school and college, and we reunited for a one-off reunion show this weekend along with some other local bands from the same era.

Adding another element of rock and rock, I managed to break my right hand the week prior and had to get creative in order to make the gig happen. I fashioned a rubber band to my middle finger to hold the stick in place and it worked shockingly well.

Just got it earlier this week, and cleaned it yesterday, haven’t tried it on the kit yet. Picked up that, a 21” sweet ride, 20” china high, 14” rock hats, and the 12” splash. Wanted to have a few things to switch around, depending on the sound I’m looking to use.

Been using my 21” rock ride for 30+ years, so it will be a change.

I have a really nice kit, but I can't even play it anymore. I hurt my back so bad, it pains me to sit and play. Plus, I suck in general anyway. Lol But here is my really nice kit. It's going to my son when he buys his house.
