I had 4k burning a hole in my pocket, and was thinking of selling Congo and getting a Tron LE. Instead I bought a DH and a JM. I have a very nice row of Williams "B" titles now.

"Quieter than usual here tonight." (after scoring no jackpots in Barroom Brawl)

Quoted from Spraynard:

Oh sorry, I should clarify. The coil is plenty strong, but the ball sometimes bangs around in the orbit, and comes back down to the upper flipper instead of making it into the pops.

I consider that a feature. I drain balls intentionally when multiball starts, because the autolaunch feeds the upper flipper about 50% of the time.

Quoted from Blackbeard:

Should it basically be smooth with the pf?

Yes, but I wouldn't worry about it unless the ball is getting hung up on or behind the magnet (as was the case for me).

I added 4 spotlights with reflectors last year, because I think DH is woefully underlit (especially when using LEDs in the feature lamps). Here are the before and after shots:

Exactly - it bugs me if I have to turn on a room light to play a game.

Quoted from Drumheadz:

I find the sound to be "crackling" sometimes like the level is too high and it's clipping

I kind of remember thinking that before I upgraded to Flipper Fidelity speakers. The sound definitely changed after the upgrade.

Quoted from shaub:

I thought it was a common problem, but on my Dirty Harry, when the ball leaves the shooter lane it has a tendency to rattle around in the right orbit. I think it occasionally hits the magnet opto bracket. I was just wondering if there is an easy solution to make sure the ball launches around into the pops consistently.

Make sure the magnet is level with the playfield. I think mine did the same thing before I fixed this.

Quoted from Seatmandan:

Also- when the ball hits the opto bracket, it "nose-dives into the PF around the magnet core, thus destroying the playfield even if there's mylar. Every single Dirty Harry has damage here, and most have destroyed wood in the thinned area immediately adjacent to the magnet core under the PF.

Not mine.

Dirty Harry is not an "easy" pin. Yes, it's high-scoring, but the outlanes are brutal and the ramp shots are not easy. I find IM to be an easier game than DH.

I think it's a great game for the price ($2000-2500). Very unique and fun layout. I like the art better than "okay", but I'm a fan of hand-drawn art.

DH is a pretty deep game for its time; I need to draw up a mind map for it. In addition to the regular modes, you've got the safehouse modes and the bullet awards to go for. Lots of fun to stack those with a multiball. The multiball itself is pretty fun, very Lawlor-like. I can sum up my attitude toward Dirty Harry in one word: "Rrricochet!"

Sometimes I have to remind myself what a fantastic deal this game is at ~$2500 (what I have in mine). I considered selling mine to make room for a TWD, but I keep hearing Clint say "PUNK!" and I changed my mind.

First of all, remove the magnet core and the bracket holding it. It's just held on by a couple of quarter inch hex screws. Take that assembly to your workshop and put it in a vice. Then go to work on it with a crescent wrench, 3-in-1 oil and a sledgehammer. You'll find a way to get it loose. It's the normal "lefty loosey" orientation, so go counterclockwise with the wrench.

I have a DH with a perfect playfield, plastics and translite. Cab is a little rough. I'd be an idiot to sell it, but would 2400 be the right price?

Gonna play it now and slap myself for even thinking about it.

Quoted from Stones:

Oh, watched Sudden Impact for the first time....definitely not the best DH

This is a must-own:

Well damn, if TheLaw and WhySnow agree (with me) that DH is a keeper, I'm not gonna sell it. I'll just rotate something else out for a while. I bet my grand-nephews would love to have a pin at home. Just gotta help my niece make the rent.

Quoted from Billy16:

Finally hit Alcatraz multi ball tonite but was unsure of just exactly what to do. Is there a goal once you get this started--a way to complete the mode?
A note--if you have not added a powered sub yet, get one immediately! One of the best pins for deep and punchy bass I have ever hooked a sub up to!

Wait, what - there's an Alcatraz MB??? +1 on the sub.

EDIT: found this by searching... "Alcatraz MB is the other wizard mode -- sort of. It's the end of the Safehouse awards that come from rank advances (via side ramp) then a shot to the lit Safehouse."

COOL!
