I'm having an intermittent problem with the Magna Save on Dirty Harry. At the beginning of the game, if I choose "Ramp Shot" and shoot the ball, the Magna Save sometimes grabs the ball and won't let go until ball search is performed by the machine. It then releases the ball and all is fine. I just got this machine yesterday and unsure where to start. Thanks.

I've noticed that when I go into test menu T.4 Solenoid Test, the menu scrolls as though being tested, but nothing actually moves. No slings, trap door, jet bumpers...every item in solenoid test scrolls, but no action. The same occurs on T.5 Flashers, T.12 Flipper coils. Display shows being tested, but nothing moves. I do not have a credit dot and everything works great in actual play, except it has no GI lighting in the upper playfield left corner of about 8 bulbs. ( I figure that a loose wire for that run)

I will mention that I just purchased Dirty Harry and The Flintstones together, and The Flintstones test the exact same way. No movement of solenoids in test mode either but everything works fine. I do have a credit dot for the Flintstones (Check Switch 76 Machine Enter ).

My other Williams/WPC Fire, Doctor Who, Getaway High Speed, don't work this way in test mode. Is this inherent in those years Williams or do I have issues?

Thanks.

Quoted from TheLaw:

You have to have the coin door interlock pushed, or shut the door. It's intentionally turning off the high voltage

Thanks TheLaw! That was it!

My upper left string GI on the play field is out and I started chasing wires. Got to the back box and discovered this on J-115. The schematic on the machine says J-120 controls GI strings. I do not have a manual yet. Can anyone tell me if this is connected to the GI, or do I have an additional problem? The pin works great, so nothing except for the GI that isn’t lighting is apparent.

seah20s, As law said, high-voltage needs to be actuated- Did your game come with this part by chance? this is a bracket used to depress the HV button/switch while the coin door is open.

No, it did not. Thanks Seatmandan for the info. I'll add it to my cart!

Quoted from RCA1:

Full manual is downloadable from IPDB as a PDF file.
Yea, that's likely your problem. The manual shows J115 as being part of the GI. Look at pages 3-10 and 3-29

Thanks so much RCA1!

Preparing all the necessary items to tear down the playfield and repair the mushroomed magnet. Cliffys on the way. According to others who have tackled this, whether filing the old magnet or replacing with new, you adjust the magnet tip to be level with the playfield when installing. My question is this, if the magnet tip is supposed to be level with the playfield and the ball rolls over it, how did it get so mushroomed in so many pins in the first place?

Playfield repair question. I’ve torn down the playfield to the point where I could remove the mushroomed magnet and discovered that the magnet apparently created a small indentation at the lower right area of the hole, where the N meets the hole. It’s tough to see but about an area of a square inch. I’d like to repair this back to flush before I install a Cliffy Carbon Fiber hole protector. Any advice on which product to use and do I need to apply clear over it? I’m not that concerned about matching paint as it’s covered by the ramp and difficult to see the magnet area anyway. I’m installing a new magnet rod. Thanks

I recently replaced all the controlled inserts with Comet Non-Ghosting bulbs and am still having a ghosting issue with the lowest inserts; Shoot Again and Bar Room Brawl. This topic was broached about a year ago with a discussion on EPROM and Rom Patches, but no one reported if it solved their problem and where exactly to get one. Has anyone lately had this issue? What’s the true fix and how do I get it? I’m running Rev. LA-2 and Sound Rev. L-1. Thanks

Quoted from Magicmike0:

I’m about to tear mine down and get the shroom magnet out as well. Do they make something to go over the magnet? With that being said...Are magnets still exposed on new games? I figured by now there would be something to install over top of them that still allows the magnet to function, but protects it too so it isn’t bashed all the time.

I had the mushroomed magnet as well. So bad that it indented the play field. Chose to do a complete tear so I could add Cliffy’s to other locations as well Filled in the divot with 2 part JBWeld 8265S. Purchased a new magnet but used the old one to install flush in the hole (needed to file down the mushroom first) so to create a dam so the JB wouldn’t go in the hole. Covered the top of the magnet with blue tape. After I sanded it down, I painted it, then installed a Cliffy’s 1 5/16 Mylar Hole Protector. Around that I installed a Mylar circle from Marco’s that comes in a 33 pc. set. Perfect fit! If you install your repaired or new magnet flush to the Cliffy, it should last for years.

I've recently noticed that during the startup of a new game, or the 2nd or 3rd ball, that if I allow the ball to sit in the shooter lane for too long, the ball is automatically fired into the playfield and the machine goes into ball search mode. This takes about 10-15 seconds, after DH has said the obligatory" Grab the gun and Fire". There isn't a problem with the gun firing the ball when I depress the trigger, it just appears that there's a maximum time it will allow the ball to sit in the shooter lane before firing it on it's own. Is this normal?

Hey guys! I need a right ramp. Does anyone have one or know of any being made? I broke a large chunk off the left wall at the ramp entrance. Can probably repair if need be with reinforcement on the backside and maybe a metal protector. If no replacement, has anyone dealt with a repair on this area? Thanks

My first problem with recently purchased dirty harry pin.
Im a noobie in troubleshooting, where to start first?
[quoted image]

You know that the left flipper controls different options before shooting the ball at the start of each new ball. I’ve noticed that if I don’t choose the option that makes the magnet grab the ball, after enough times the “Magnet is broken” credit dot pops up. Choosing the magnet to grab the ball makes it go away..for me.

Prepping to repair the broken right ramp, and while disconnecting wires under the playfield, I noticed that the wires for the connection of the Warehouse Contraband and Collect Magazine do not match. Clearly not all connections have matching color wires on both sides, but these two lights have never worked, and I wonder if it’s because the connection is incorrect. Mainly because there is a empty connection with matching wires close by. Can someone please verify that connection coming out of the Warehouse please? Thanks!!

Anyone know of a source for ramp decals? I see the left ramp decal on Marcos, but I’m needing the helicopter and others for the right ramp.

Quoted from JodyG:

Now that I have some working molds, I guess i can let the cat out of the bag. New release ramps number 4 and 5 are far enough along to be announced. My next two 2021 releases will be the small and large ramps for Dirty Harry! Note: these are preliminary pieces shown, there is much more work left to do on the molds before they are finished.
I have at least 4 more molds to make this month, and then I will start running production on these ramps once I ascertain initial interest. If you would like to be added to the interest list for any ramp I have announced, send me a message and I will add you.

Tore down the playfield to remove the right ramp for repairs. Noticed that the left side of the ramp entrance did not have a metal protector installed,(subsequently the reason the left side cracked), even though the right side does, and the left ramp is protected on both entrance sides. I can’t tell from pics when looking at other DH’s, but can anyone tell me if their machine has ramp protectors on both sides of the entrance on the right ramp? If so, anyone have can extra protector? Thanks!

This one for Tron works pretty good. If you give it a bend. And perhaps drill another hole in your ramp.

Almost finished putting back together my Dirty Harry. Full teardown, clearcoated the playfield etc. Does anyone know what this writing means on the playfield under the apron - “001”? Do any others have any writing like this on their playfield? Thanks

Very nice! Did you strip the underside as well? Just stripping the topside is a daunting task. How was the magnet hole?

I’m gathering a few decals and I see this on the Marco site. It’s not on my playfield that I can see. Does anyone know where it goes? Thanks.

Quoted from Magicmike0:

Good to know. I have to tackle this feat very soon! I have to replace the magnet and add my cliffy’s. I am thinking since I’m doing all that just doing a complete shop, and possibly adding mirror blades. Looks like it’d be a tight fit though. I’d hate to buy some blades just to damage them raising the playfield. Anybody else have mirror blades on their DH? I’ve seen some super cool ones, but wondered in all honesty is it hard to get the playfield up and down with them installed? I had some in a judge Dredd and I “Dredded” raising that playfield. It was my only experience with mirrors.

The plastic blade protectors are awesome, and will protect your side art or mirrors, and fit most pins. Definitely a great purchase!!

Has anyone ever tightened/replaced the rivets on the right ramp diverter? The rivets are loose and allow the horizontal diverter bar to dip down and get caught behind the opening in the ramp. Thanks!

Quoted from ChrisPINk25:

I installed the blades and the sticker on the back. I did use the blade protectors from pinball lift, however, I don't really need them because nothing rubs. Just make sure ramps aren't making contact. When did cliffy add a protector for the magnet? I bought the set and did not get that. I just put new mylar around my magnet.

Cliffy didn’t add a magnet protector to his DH set. He has an assortment of protectors with the correct ID, and different OD’s, made of metal or carbon fiber, that you can add....your choice. I chose one like I pictured, only wider OD. Perfect after two years still.

“I am looking at having a set of these ready to go out this week, and would be looking for feedback within a week or so after arriving in your hands. If you think you are a good candidate, please PM me! I am going to hold this to US owners only right now...as shipping times overseas can add weeks to the process.
Thanks,

I’m at this point after installing art blades and pulling the damaged right ramp. I’ll send you a PM.

The Cliffy’s left side protector for the right ramp just arrived! I sent Cliff a mock-up and he added finishing touches. It fits perfectly! My ramp was missing just that protector, and I even managed to find two other ramps, but they didn’t have protectors either. If you have a ramp cracked/repaired in that location, or just want to get it protected before it does..here you go!

Quoted from Magicmike0:

Awesome!
I just got my Cliffy’s in yesterday...finally. It wasn’t an easy feat. Haha. Good thing I was tearing it all down to shop it anyway. I have the metal piece for the ramp already. Do I need this one? Or you just got it because your piece was missing?
Oh yeah seah2os i did end up getting my mirror blades in too. Just installed them today. I thought using the blade protectors from pinball universe it’d be easy, buuuut it’s too tight to even fit them in after the playfield is down.
I got them on no problem, and easily lowered the playfield using the protectors, but getting it back up is tough. You have to ease the pf up a little and then put the protectors in, to get it back up. Ended up getting some small swirl surface scratches on the right blade using the protector, because I was trying to force squeeze them in...hahaha. The protector itself scratched it. Oh well. It’s not a gouge or anything, just small surface swirls. Here’s a couple pics. One of them showing my carbon fiber ring around the magnet. Be awesome if I could ever get the dang thing(magnet) to work.

[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Those mirror blades look great! I've found that when installing my blade protectors on DH, it's necessary to slide the entire playfield to one side first, which may give an extra 1/16" on the other side, then install the protector. I then repeat for the other side. I have to be careful when lifting up the playfield because the protectors want to come up as well.
