I’m about to tear mine down and get the shroom magnet out as well. Do they make something to go over the magnet? With that being said...Are magnets still exposed on new games? I figured by now there would be something to install over top of them that still allows the magnet to function, but protects it too so it isn’t bashed all the time.

#1020 5 years ago
Quoted from topkat:

I agree why didnt they make some sort of a cover? not many have exposed magnet.
was pia getting it out good luck

Thanks! I hope to have it done in the next few weekends. I really don’t see the need for a magnet in this game at all. Seems like all they needed to do was make the ball gates open and close during certain modes. The skill shot that requires the magnet could have simply relied on left or right gate to be closed to send your ball back down the right side to shoot for ramp skill shot. Same could be done for the magna force light. I think once it’s lit all it does is catches your ball and drops it, just like the skill shot.
I’m not 100% sure that’s how the magna force works during gameplay, as mine isn’t working at all right now, but I think it would have worked using gates instead.

Quoted from seah2os:

I had the mushroomed magnet as well. So bad that it indented the play field. Chose to do a complete tear so I could add Cliffy’s to other locations as well Filled in the divot with 2 part JBWeld 8265S. Purchased a new magnet but used the old one to install flush in the hole (needed to file down the mushroom first) so to create a dam so the JB wouldn’t go in the hole. Covered the top of the magnet with blue tape. After I sanded it down, I painted it, then installed a Cliffy’s 1 5/16 Mylar Hole Protector. Around that I installed a Mylar circle from Marco’s that comes in a 33 pc. set. Perfect fit! If you install your repaired or new magnet flush to the Cliffy, it should last for years.
[quoted image]

Wow I like the look and sound of that! Nice job!

#1024 5 years ago
Quoted from Scoot:

Someone was smart and epoxied a 1/8 inch round plastic over the magnet on my machine. It seems to still grab fine and there is absolutely no wear. I thought it was factory installed until I read posts about mushrooming magnets.

Hmm. I’d have that stuff everywhere haha. Another great idea though.

#1027 5 years ago
Quoted from topkat:

The magnet actually makes the game allot more fun..my wasnt working from the time i got it..
Since getting it fixed I gravitated to playing the game allot more

What was the problem with yours? Mine doesn’t work really either.

#1029 5 years ago

I heard something about the angle of the game could mess with the magnet timing and actions. Is this true? What angle do you guys have your DH set at? Mine is about 6 degrees I think. Maybe 6.2

#1032 5 years ago
Quoted from topkat:

What does/doesnt your magnet do? Work in test mode? any times in game? let me know

As far as I can tell it doesn’t work at all. Seemed like it may have working occasionally, but it could have just been the ball smacking that bracket above the magnet, and rolling back down. A few days ago I finally got a broken magnet test error. My buddy looked at it, and he thinks it could be the board.

Quoted from topkat:

I would reseat the mag coil connector under the playfield just to try something easy.. then see if it pulses in the solenoid test ..
If not then agree check the flipper board. There are two connectors that supply power to the magnet ( a red white and yellow/ ? ) .

I’ll give it a try when I get back to my bro’s this weekend. I’m keepig it there until I can make some room.
Also any of you guys that orders carbon fiber cliffy for the magnet, was it a custom order or are they pretty typical sizes? Which one did you get? I emailed cliffy a few days ago through the website. I’m sure he’s a busy guy.

#1049 5 years ago
Quoted from kidchrisso:

I put them on after I got her cleaned up and going 100%. I just finished the LED swap.

Beautiful! I wish I was so lucky to find one hardly touched. I love mine though. Paid more than I wanted, but the guy I bought it from is an honest helpful guy. He said I could even trade it down the road if I wanted too, once he got new machines I was interested in. I plan to keep it for many years to come, though.
Again, very nice find. Happy for you

Anybody got any DH ramps for sale? I know it’s a long shot, but bought I’d ask.

#1056 5 years ago
Quoted from AntennaMan:

Back of the line is way over there, you can almost see it. No cutting.

I just figured somebody would know of somebody making them by now or something. Lol. No cuts.
Let’s switch gears a second. Anybody else missing a place under the playfield for the bulb on the jackpot insert for the right ramp? I seem to be. I’d post a pic, but again my DH is still at my brother's house. Maybe I’m overlooking it, but I’ve looked on the boards hoping there would be a socket for a bulb to extend from. I’m either blind or I’m missing a place for it.

#1058 5 years ago
Quoted from topkat:

I was missing the lamp socket. but there was a spot to solder one on the board

Oh? Cool. Thanks. I’ll have to take it off and check it out. May need some guidance so I don’t blow my machine up! Hahah

If anybody else is missing the socket for the right ramp jackpot light, just sharing. Simply ordered the missing socket and soldered to the board with success! Lol. Simple fix, but I feel accomplished, because I’m not the best at soldering.

Hey guys. Haven’t posted here in a bit. Something is bugging me about my DH lately though. You guys know what would cause mine to be missing some speech? Only line I can recall missing as of now, is the one when it used to call out to “aim for the flashing cross hairs” I don’t ever get that call out anymore. It’s no biggie, but I like my stuff to be working 100% or it bugs me. Haha. Any advice is appreciated.

#1287 3 years ago
Quoted from Scoot:

I don't recall mine ever saying that. But I have had some incorrect or missing speech on my Baywatch recently and fixed it by reseating all my connections on my sound board. worth a try.

Yeah, I tried that before bud. Many times actually. Haha. Thanks though. Maybe we both have been missing out on speech after seeing the suggestion
above. I’m going to go back into adjustments tomorrow.

Quoted from RCA1:

Adjustment A.2.25 Instructional Speech - Turns those phrases on and off.

What?! Something as easy as going into adjustments? Holy crap if that’s it I’m going to kick my own butt! Thanks a lot bro! I feel like an idiot.
I have replugged connections all over those boards and a few other things. Also thought I looked through every single option/adjustment in the menus. Haha I’ll look at it again tomorrow. DH is at my brother’s house for a few more days, and then He’s coming home.

Quoted from RCA1:

Adjustment A.2.25 Instructional Speech - Turns those phrases on and off.

Thanks again man. Can’t believe I never saw/thought of this. I swore I looked through all the settings but guess I never thought to look in adjustments. I did a factory reset once before trying to fix something else, and didn’t realize this was here. No wonder ol Harry wasn’t telling me what to do. I just like to hear all the speech I can, so thanks again.

Glad I didn’t sell it. Much more fun in a little line up.

Quoted from o-din:

First time I did one, it was a pain. Second time I took the back board off first and had it out in about half an hour.
Remove the back panel first, then both buildings, both ramps, and the right corner plastics and opto. Done.

Good to know. I have to tackle this feat very soon! I have to replace the magnet and add my cliffy’s. I am thinking since I’m doing all that just doing a complete shop, and possibly adding mirror blades. Looks like it’d be a tight fit though. I’d hate to buy some blades just to damage them raising the playfield. Anybody else have mirror blades on their DH? I’ve seen some super cool ones, but wondered in all honesty is it hard to get the playfield up and down with them installed? I had some in a judge Dredd and I “Dredded” raising that playfield. It was my only experience with mirrors.

#1388 3 years ago
Quoted from ChrisPINk25:

I installed the blades and the sticker on the back. I did use the blade protectors from pinball lift, however, I don't really need them because nothing rubs. Just make sure ramps aren't making contact. When did cliffy add a protector for the magnet? I bought the set and did not get that. I just put new mylar around my magnet.

Thanks for the info!
As far as magnet protector..I’ve had mine for about a year now, so I’m not sure...so he has had it at available at least a year. Lol
I contacted Cliffy directly and asked about the cliffys and a magnet protector. He sold me all of it. A shame I still haven’t installed any of it. I can finally work on it now that it’s home though.

Quoted from seah2os:

The plastic blade protectors are awesome, and will protect your side art or mirrors, and fit most pins. Definitely a great purchase!!

Brilliant! I searched for them right away, and looks like pinball life carries them. Thanks for the tip!

Well. I screwed up today. Probably not the right place to post. I blew BR1(bridge rectifier) on the fliptronic board. It all started because I was having magnet issues again. I read where somebody replaced U22 and U6 chips. I planned on doing that, but this problem happened a year or more ago and all I did was unplug and replug the connection under the playfield. It worked for over a year. I was thinking maybe something was loose or the solder on the back of the fliptronic board where the magnet plugs in, needed reflowed. I had the board loose looking at the back side of it. I thought with the power on I could wiggle the molex or press on the wires and see if it’s helped the magnet come on. I know not to unplug connections while the game is on, but I thought if I could just wiggle it a little. I guess the back of the board, while it was hanging was leaning on one of the screws (that holds the board) that I left in, when I powered on. I didn’t even get a chance to wiggle it. Such a dummy. Wouldn’t have helped anyway I’m sure. Haha. Anyway now the rectifier is blown and my DMD has lines, and no sound(some sound but only a few sound effects..no music) Not sure where to start with that. It cleared up for a minute and the sound was there. I just went to turn it on again to see if that was a coincidence and it was. Still screwed for now.
I’m really trying to figure out how to work on my pins but may need to start hiring a pro. Anywho, Don’t rip me too bad guys. I know it was a dumb thing to do.
I’m thinking I’m going to order a new BR and whatever else I need to get the sound and DMD back... or maybe even a new fliptronic board. What do you guys think?
Since owning DH, the guy I bought it from said that the board might be bad. I haven’t had any problems for over a year but he seemed to think the board causes the intermittent issues with the magnet not working. Anybody else struggling with magnet not working these days? Before this happened it was reading the optics in test but not grabbing the ball.

Quoted from PAR:

Question on playfield GI, I got my DH working about 8 months ago, but the playfield GI was blowing the fuse on the power driver board on booting so I left it unplugged. Last weekend I finally revisited the GI checked each string one at a time and they all worked without popping the fuse. So I plugged it in all good. Now the question. When a game starts the GI lights flicker rapidly until the first shot or mode is hit or started is this normal? I can't remember since it's been so long since I played a DH in the wild. Appreciate any comments thx.

Being super noob still, not sure if it would help, but I have the “allow dim illumination” setting on mine turned off. It’s in Standard Settings A1.25
I just checked to see if mine does the flicker with this setting on, and it has a super noticeable flicker, because I have LED’s in it. The flicker looks more like the lights are shutting off and on. Not sure how it looks with standard bulbs. May not be as bad, but still noticeable. I didn’t like that effect with the LEF’s in. The manual describes it with the setting on, as a dim light effect during gameplay. May be worth a shot turning hours off to see if it helps. May be something more serious though, like not getting enough juice, but I’m all about trying the simple stuff first.

Quoted from Paseb:

Is there a special bulb on top of the gun?
Mine doesnt light

Should just be a flasher. I got a warm white 8smd flex bulb in mine now. To accent the bullet. Kind of reminds ya of a real gun firing with that warm spark. Haha. I only went with flex so I could aim it upwards. You can adjust flex to aim whichever direction You want. You could probably just grab any wedge base flasher though. A standard LED one will shine to the left because all the light is in the top of the led. Could always get one with leds on all sides of too. A standard incandescent wedge flasher will do, but I just like LED’s.

I’m dealing with the same issue currently. If I get it figured out I’ll let you know.
I’ve tried resetting the connectors on mine, and even swapped boards out with a brand new rottendog fliptronic board. Since doing that I’m now getting a buzz in my right lower flipper coil and it sticks up after one flip. A local tech is trying to help me, and Pin_Guy is helping me in a different post.

Quoted from bssbllr:

Did that message just appear recently or has it been like that since you got the game.if it’s a new message could be cause of a wire that came off due to vibration.

Maybe paseb should look at all 3 flipper mechs. And check the leaf switches to make sure all wires look attached.

Not trying to hijack, but since we are both dealing with flipper issues, I’m doing the same now, and checking my EOS wiring.
Is it normal for the left and upper right flipper to have 2 orange wires attached together, but the lower right only has 1 orange wire and 1 black?

Ya know, this might be the reason my magnet’s not grabbing anymore...time will tell. Now if I can remember how to put all this back together
Taking plenty of pictures so hopefully after a good shop out, it will all go back in no problems.

We’ve all done it. After a nice shop job, we forget what wire went where. Even though I took a million pictures, it seems I always forget to snap the one shot I need.
I think I forgot to stick something through the playfield to plug back into this harness. What am I forgetting? I pushed both ramp opto plugs back through, but can’t figure out what I left behind. Hoping it’s just the famous non used drop target harness.

Quoted from seah2os:

The Cliffy’s left side protector for the right ramp just arrived! I sent Cliff a mock-up and he added finishing touches. It fits perfectly! My ramp was missing just that protector, and I even managed to find two other ramps, but they didn’t have protectors either. If you have a ramp cracked/repaired in that location, or just want to get it protected before it does..here you go!
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Awesome!
I just got my Cliffy’s in yesterday...finally. It wasn’t an easy feat. Haha. Good thing I was tearing it all down to shop it anyway. I have the metal piece for the ramp already. Do I need this one? Or you just got it because your piece was missing?
Oh yeah seah2os i did end up getting my mirror blades in too. Just installed them today. I thought using the blade protectors from pinball universe it’d be easy, buuuut it’s too tight to even fit them in after the playfield is down.
I got them on no problem, and easily lowered the playfield using the protectors, but getting it back up is tough. You have to ease the pf up a little and then put the protectors in, to get it back up. Ended up getting some small swirl surface scratches on the right blade using the protector, because I was trying to force squeeze them in...hahaha. The protector itself scratched it. Oh well. It’s not a gouge or anything, just small surface swirls. Here’s a couple pics. One of them showing my carbon fiber ring around the magnet. Be awesome if I could ever get the dang thing(magnet) to work.

Quoted from Cash_Riprock:

Looks great!
What are you using for pf bulbs? Way brighter than mine but I have ‘regular’ bulbs installed. Enjoy!

Hey bud, I have a mix of Cointaker and Comet frosted cool/natural white in the GI’s except for under the right ramp. Under there I have frosted purple comet. All the inserts came from Cointaker’s DH kit. I believe they are super brights and all color match. For the flashers I got some more Comets. I color matched wherever they went(ie...orange flasher above the HQ, red flasher above left targets) I ended up with a flex warm white in the bullet over the gun to simulate a spark...hehe. Also went with a purple flasher under right ramp. Hope that answers your question. If not, ask away

Quoted from Scoot:

Is it me or does your magnet looks like it is sticking too far up. It doesn't look flush to the playfield protector.

It is actually a little lower in this picture. I raised it a little. Funny thing is, it seems like whatever position I have it, I can barely push down on it from the top of the playfiled and it will lower ever so slightly, no matter if the nut underneath is tight or not. I have it flush with the pf now. I’m starting to think it may be in the connector J902-3. If I can figure out how to re-pin it, that’s going to be my next step. I noticed the pin inside the connector looks messed up.

Quoted from topkat:

Has to be someone not too far from you that you can have them try your mpu in their machine and see if it causes the same problem? At least that could rule out if it’s something on there. That was how mine was narrowed down. Just a thought

Maybe a dumb question, but does it have to be tested in a Dirty Harry? I mean, could it be an Addams family or something else? I have BSD but it’s the only other Williams game I got. Again probably a dumb question. I assume it needs to be DH to test their magnet with my board.

#1472 3 years ago
Quoted from bssbllr:

Maybe the 3 screws holding the entire magnet bracket have worn out holes making it lower a little bit. Could always add some toothpick and some wood glue in the holes and then tighten the screws up. Might hold better.

I’ll check em. I know I had them loose at one point. Maybe I didn’t tighten them back enough.
