Quoted from Scoot:

I am sure he is referring to the standup switch target next to the left ramp. I have never seen one without any damage. I have heard of people trying to add a metal backing and such, but don't think there is a solution for it other than a replacement. The gun shoots the ball with so much force on the target and ramp, that there is always some damage with the machines in the wild. Even the promo video for DH shows damage on that target.
[quoted image]

Yes that is the target.
I'll try to figure out something and when I do i will post.

Quoted from o-din:

They are super easy to make. PBResource sells the material, and a good sharp pair of scissors can cut it. I use a small punch to start the holes and a drill to finish them on a block of wood.
Do that before you cut them and use a good heavy glove to hold it still while drilling the holes as it is sharp material.

Word to the wise: don't use scissors to cut blue "flap" steel. The sheet will curl slightly as you cut and you'll never straighten it. Instead, use a heavy duty paper cutter and you'll make nothing but sharp, straight cuts with no curling. Then use a Dremel tool to round the corners to match the original; I held the corner gently against the edge of a cut-off wheel to shape it and it worked like a charm. Here's a link to the flaps on my Jackbot ramp, these are the first flaps I ever made after very little practice:

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/jackbot-club-everyone-welcome/page/10#post-4851820

Also, a sheet metal punch is great for the holes. I got this one from Amazon and it's dirt cheap, plus no need to worry about cutting yourself during drilling:

These don't. However your hole punch would be much better and safer than trying a drill.

Quoted from Ballsofsteel:

there are 2 flaps in the shooter lane, the first one that loads the gun gets beat up. Is yours blown out in the center? i replaced mine because of this issue, it helped but i also get the problem at times with the ball not making it to the upper lanes and pops. You can also bend or adjust the ball guides.
I am interested as well. Maybe a slow motion video would show the problem? i feel like this is a universal DH issue.

After many attempts I believe I found a decent and easy adjustment to the shooter lane, to help balls not making it up to the top. If you remove the apron, the coil for the shooter can be moved back a few mils. I tried that alone at first but it was un predictable I think bc the coil would move. I made a shim that I slid down in front of the coil, between it and the bracket.
I used a piece of plastic that came with some harbor freight tool.. its black plastic about 3x the thickness of a credit card. If you cut a slot into it, you can slide it down over the coil sleeve and it snugs it up pretty well. It seems, at this point, its softens the plunge just enough to prevent air balls...

Commercial during big ten champ game allowed a few

It worked for 20 shoots so far. Which has been my best streak since having the machine

Have been wanting to add some stuff to my DH and found this golden gate that I think would look pretty cool, will have to do some trimming and playing around with location but I think it’ll look nice when done

That’s looking really nice. I think you could add three bulbs to the back panel for the upper lanes to know where the position of the light are. Either mounting point looks to cover them up, but it looks good. Think I like the back position better. To much covered the other away and not a whole lot going on in the back left corner.

You were exactly right, too much covering playfield. Decided to put in upper left out of the way completely. test fitting now. Need to trim just a hair more to clear glass easily.

I haven't seen very many mods for this pin. I think the best mods for this is the color dmd, gi ocd, and maybe a few spotlights to light the playfield.

ColorDMD and that's it.

The back cab graphic is pretty nice. Not sure if I like the side art or not.

I did a bit of dry brushing on the safe house and installed some blue and red flashing leds into the windows - these come on when the safe house shot is light.

I've got some leds that flicker like candles so think I'll put some in the warehouse windows.

Also leds for the roll over lanes in the backboard.

Anybody have a spare set of ramps?

Desperately need the right one that feeds the gun.

#1173 4 years ago

Left ramp feeds the gun.

#1174 4 years ago
Quoted from bssbllr:

Left ramp feeds the gun.

Ok. Well, the shorter, more curved ramp with the two optos.

Let me check my garage when I get home from the office.
I have the left ramp that’s opposite the upper flipper in my parts room. Not sure the condition. I’ll take pics when I get home.

I'm on the hunt 4 another DH ... Kinda local ( 3 hrs driving 1 way )

That’s amazing they are hard to find. That would be great for him.

Make sure to take the playfield back off makes thing much easier with taking ramps on and off. There are like 8 screws holding it on.

Just installed the LED OCD GI board set. It took care of all the issues I had after putting LEDs. It is a pretty slick system...

Can you elaborate on this? Want to upgrade to LEDs.

#1180 4 years ago
Quoted from Captainclown:

OCD LED is an add on board that will make the LEDs behave like bulbs in respects to dimming. LEDs are not good at dimming so the sort of flicker when they try.
If you put LEDs in your Dirty Harry they will work just fine, but they wont be able to dim as well.
It's a trade off that you will decide if it's worth it, because OCDLED costs $$$

#1181 4 years ago

What site would you find this board add-on?

I've had my DH since 1998 and it was only on location for a brief time and had 600+ plays on it. I've "neglected" it for years, just playing it as it's in my eating area in the kitchen. Never down in a basement.
Playing one night in November, the left flipper just disintegrated. So I replaced it and installed new rubbers and cleaned it with Novus products.

I just joined this site and see all of the Mods that people have done. I just ordered the backboard decal from www.littleshopofgames.com today.

Game is pretty mint and everything works well.

No but he has.
I had one NOT installed on my machine and it was fine.

Just diff'rent opinions. Like, if you where to be doing this on a route machine, it would 100% be not worth it. No location player is going to care that much or not play it becasue of it.

Finding a Dirty Harry nowadays without some kind of "mod" added is indeed a rare find.

#1189 4 years ago
Quoted from Captainclown:

If so, where'd you install it?

nowhere. i've had mine for 12 years and all it needed was the backboard decal. just my opinion. feel free to place action figures, light strips, bullet holes in the display plastic, or whatever people do to feel better about the game i guess.

if someone does this, they need to make sure that all of the incandescents are replaced before starting the machine with the board installed. I forgot to switch the backbox bulbs on my Airborne over to LED and kept blowing a microfuse on the board, thankfully Herg helped me figure out the issue and it was my stupidity that caused it. Apparently the incandescents pull too much current for the fuses on the OCD board.

It's a nice mod and makes a difference!

Looking for help, thoughts, and ideas. I have the "Opto Trough Bad" message on my DH, which is a long term project I started years ago, it is an assembled machine from parts. On power up this message appears. The optos on the playfield test and work, The game boots okay, but will not start a game. In the switch edge test mode nothing in the trough registers. I have swapped the 16 opto board out mounted on the underside of the playfield, with one I had which I believe to be "good", still same issue playfield optos work, the trough does not. Any advice?

Check for continuity between the green numbers on u20 and u23. Notice the numbers on u23 are a little scrambled so double check. The 3 on mine did not have continuity and I had same Error message till I ran a jumper wire. All was fixed. Also check the black numbers on u20 to the plug pins on j207 I believe.
