I cleaned my newly purchased Dirty Harry and waxed the playfield, making the game play much faster now. the problem I am now having is that on a clean shot to the right ramp, the ball launches off the ramp exit, over the lane gate and back towards me, missing the jackpot almost every time. I just don't see much for an adjustment since the left ramp comes right over the top of the right ramp. I'm thinking of adding a clear cover over that section of ramp to keep the ball in play, similar to the one on the left ramp. Does anyone have a solution for this? Also wondering what production number my pin is. Is it the last four digits of the S/N #?

Quoted from Scoot:

Thought I'd touch up the safe house and warehouse a little bit. They looked a little blah.

Man you painted it great can't wait to see it on the game.....oh and all that work down the purp'n drain

I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a ramp cover on that ramp to prevent this from happening. Problem is the cover has to be adjusted just right for height or the ball will stick between the ramp and the cover (so probably someone took yours off).

Shoot! I didn’t cross post to my favorite Club thread, and I meant to do so as I knew my topic would get lost in the fray.

For those that didn’t see the thread, here is DH Number 0001.

I couldn't decide between graphics or mirrors on the side so I went with both.

I thought the gun was a little plain so I repainted it and added some chrome highlights.

That looks fricken awesome! You should put a set of handcuffs on the far right. The case is beautiful.

I decided to install my cliffy protectors last night with much reservation. Four hours, three beers, and two bloody fingers later, I finally got them installed. After I put everything back together, I proceeded to rack up my best score yet. The pinball gods must have had pitty on me. So totally worth the hassle.

I’m dreading this. I bought the protector set AFTER I took apart and put back together the pf for cleaning etc. when I got it. I still am trying to get over that fact!

This was my second time breaking down my pf since I have owned it. It did go much easier the 2nd time around, and I got to clean and wax the orbits. The cliffys look great and hide the ball wear that were on my pf. Grab a beer and just go for it.

Thanks for the idea, cuffs have been added to the topper.

I figured it was fitting to post a picture of a Dirty Harry machine with the original warehouse drop-target, so here it is.

Any more detail? Pics and reasoning why it was discarded in later production.

#874 5 years ago

Unless someone has better info I heard it was a cost cutting move. Bummer.

#875 5 years ago

Would speed the game up for sure. But no worries, we can all add our own if we want.

#876 5 years ago
Quoted from LoveNeverDiesGuy:

As noted, I believe it was some form of cost-cutting. The code is present in the software for the machines, so as mentioned above, someone can retrofit the drop-target and have it functional.

My neighbor just grabbed a DH and I think the 16 opto board is flaky on it. The trough will lose count during multiball and not give balls or end balls sometimes. What's the common failure point on that board? I remember seeing a rebuild guide somewhere (upgrading certain resistors?) but I can't find it.

I just went through this similar situation. Game wouldn’t eject balls for multiball. Sometimes after a regular ball drain it wouldn’t kick out the next ball. Never did a switch test, just assumed the trough opto was bad since I had the same issue on my Austin Powers. So order a new board set. Installed. Same problem. End result was the balls got magnetized.

#879 5 years ago

I'll check that out today. I do have trough shims coming too which might help.

#880 5 years ago

Make sure the optos are clean. I was having the same issues. Put in new balls, still the same. To really clean the optos, the trough needs tobe removed. Mine were really dirty. After cleaning, works great! With opto boards off, you could also reflow solder as well.

#881 5 years ago

My balls were magnetized but I'm still having problems. Didn't have time to clean and put my trough shim in so hopefully that's it.

Does anyone know where I can get the metal ramp protectors for the right (helicopter) ramp. Someone before me glued a piece of metal to the right entrance of the ramp where a metal ramp protector is supposed to go (see pics) I believe it looks like the one in the bottom pic.
Thanks
Ken

monies, lots of it. maybe 4g?

Quoted from Cobra:

Hey guys..what is a HUO DH worth?

Pics of shooter lane, magnet, ramps and right inlane switch will always tell what an HUO is worth.
I'd guess anywhere between 4k to 5k, but those 4 items along with a few others will set the price.
Do you have pics?

#886 5 years ago

No pictures but I went to see it today. It is very nice and i do not doubt the HUO claim.

I was told there was a HUO with colour DMD that sold in February on here that listed at 3300.

This is in Canada and I can get it for 4200.

#887 5 years ago

Always look under the right ramp to see how bad the magnet has mushroomed. Of course it doesn't really matter as you will probably have to tear the whole playfield down and replace it anyway. Gets much faster the second time around.

#888 5 years ago

I looked at the magnet. Flat and no mushrooming.

#889 5 years ago
Quoted from Cobra:

I looked at the magnet. Flat and no mushrooming.

Well that's beautiful! If you can get it out thru the bottom without damaging the playfield and file a little bevel around the outer edge, it will save you a ton of work later on.

#891 5 years ago

i'd just buy it, you never know if someone online here might snake it from underneath you now that you've posted it. just saying.

#892 5 years ago

So about $3600 US sounds about right in that condition. I don't care what others might say, nice DHs are no longer a sub $3k game.

#893 5 years ago

I can get it for 4200. So more like 3200 US.

#896 5 years ago

I'm seeing double! FOUR Dirty Harrys!

#897 5 years ago

Finally completed "Shootout" today right before time ran out. What was interesting was what happened after--all the balls came back into play, but the flippers were still dead. Maybe it is supposed to be like that, or maybe it is a software bug.

Just installed my backboard decal on my Dirty Harry. Pulled the playfield up, removed the flashers and wood screws from backboard, backboard came off easy. Cleaned and applied decal, then reinstalled. Took about 45 minutes.

Kensurfs looks great! I have to get one. Question, is that an LED DMD or LCD one? I'm planning on getting one and can't decide between LCD and LED.
