    Hey Pinball Amigos,

Like so many others I've really enjoyed quietly following your Mansion thread the last few months... plus I wanted to thank you because I found some inspiration in your "just try it and get it done" theme which contributed to me creating a little device that helps in my daughterboard assembly/packaging process. To avoid hijacking your thread I posted a video of the device in a separate thread:

    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/my-electric-card-cutter#post-4044446

    Thanks, guys!

Bas i saw that pic with Baby Packman in the Tesla.

I shared that pic with a guy at work who owns a Tesla - he was amazed! ... and he agreed with jokerpoker on the "crazy" assessment.

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

Can't play pacman on a tesla right?

Don't they take feature requests? The dash has a big screen in it and you really need something to do while the car drives itself...

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

About half or 60% Swinks, like a regular dmd,we are debating that actually

Maybe the slope of the lower PF could vary which would change how much screen is visible. I went back a quite a few pages to refresh my memory on the plan for the lower PF (quoted post 834 to help others find it).

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

So this is the rough plan,2 flippers downstairs and 2 pop bumpers.
On the 2 sides,we are gonna make 2 rows of targets, spelling the insert words "crazy" and "mansion".
Lite both words and you can shoot straight down the middle for mental jackpot

Anyway, accomplish something on the main PF to reveal more screen and make the lower PF ready for mental jackpot. Get the ball down there when the slope isn't steep and there aren't many points to be had (so player is just wasting time stuck in the asylum), but when it's steep/difficult the jackpot can be earned. Maybe what's revealed on the screen is icons showing the state of each letter's insert target which is progress toward earning the jackpot.

A mechanism that incorporates a threaded motor shaft running through bolt fixed to the lower PF may be enough to give control of the pitch. The lower PF's exit ball path would need designed deliver to that spring you guys built no matter PF position.

Doesn't everybody? Mine are conveniently stored in a cloth Marco bag they give out at pinball shows.

When I pulled the bag out for the photo I noticed about a dozen overflowing into the box underneath. I respectfully disagree with calling it hoarding... more of recycling as these things come in handy periodically.

    We have a supercool announcement!
Phil from UK pinfest contacted us to invite us and our machines for next years (august) UKpinfest.
They have a parking spot for our mobile home and they have beer too,so we decided to do a “ pinball amigos international tour”

Nice - Dates are listed as August 23-25 on their website. Plenty of time for us USA folks to talk to spouses about 2019 being the year for a "special" European vacation! Maybe ask them for a trip to UKpinfest as a Christmas present! Would be awesome to play a game or three on this game we've watched materialize bolt-by-bolt... and with so many ideas/recommendations from the thread.

Is the plan still to raise and lower that lower PF to expose different amounts of the lower monitor during different parts of gameplay? I can't remember whether or not that feature was scrapped.

Also, that clip with the plastic in the saw has an interesting sound - maybe something that could be incorporated into the soundtrack somewhere?

I'm curious if you had to do any pre-work with the electric in the new space prior to moving. Have you had all the games turned on yet? Over here that's a long enough line to make running them on one electric circuit challenging. I've got two 15 amp lines (@ US voltage) in my basement so no breaker tripping issues but I notice a little weakness in flippers when all 11 are on compared to playing with just a couple powered up. Since your voltage is different I'm guessing your breakers are sized differently too so maybe tripping breakers isn't as big a challenge in Europe?

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

We did some thinking this weekend and you know what?
We really think these mechanical things in a pinball machine are way more attractive and cool than all these modern points of view with tiny lcd’s on the playfield and such.
We like shooting a physical mansion,a trapdoor in a ramp,an electro magnetic capture by a ufo on the playfield way better than all the digital stuff and molded toys that don’t add anything to the game.
Pinball is all about: “ where did the ball go now?” And where will it appear again?
It’s also fun to try and get to another level playfield.
Pinball is mechanical....that’s what we love about pinball...
Sure we have a big lcd too...but the mechanics in the crazy mansion are nuts and make us smile everytime.

Exactly. Did you guys see this thread: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/where-is-the-innovation-in-the-last-decade ? My answer (in post #30) was right here in the Crazy Mansion build.

    Quoted from OLDPINGUY:

I might even suggest a Plastic storage bin for the whole thing, and am additional fan/small blower to flow into tube
    and area needed.

As a test, put the smoke machine in the plastic storage bin, put the lid on and turn it on - it should quickly flood the small space with fog. Now, take that lid off and mount it to the bottom of the playfield such that the mansion is inside this smoke chamber with the smoke machine also inside the chamber. No tube needed... but that playfield has got to be getting heavy - this may make raising it a two man job.

What? The guy in the hallway has a VIC20 for sale?!!

Wow - VIC20 was what I had as a teenager - was too poor to get a C64 or an Apple II. I had the cassette tape data storage recorder device and a RAM memory upgrade for it too. I would write code in BASIC on it but I don't remember what any of it did. I do remember it was possible to enter a "high resolution graphics mode" where you could use a "poke" command to directly write memory locations that would control individual pixels on the screen. The tape machine was necessary so you didn't have to re-type your program with every power cycle; I think the RAM upgrade provided enough memory to allow full-screen high resolution.

See that screw in front / just to the left of the new secret target (circled in red here)? I suspect the rim on that screw is going to beat up the game's pinballs pretty quickly. How's about we change that screw for one of the tall posts like what is boxed in green here. One without the rubber installed in the middle though - don't want it to block the secret shot.

Ref your comment in the video about it being tedious to get through all the modes to test each piece you write in the last mode, for development purposes put in some shortcuts that take you directly to the mode you want - kinda like the shortcut to LITZ in the TZ home rom. When you are done coding simply take the shortcuts out for the production code.

After that , we threw a custom sheet of glass on it with mirror foil...and voila! Infinity mirror table

Pretty cool. Also, CONGRATS on getting the Monte Carlo into the paint booth - you've put in a lot of work to get it this far. I think the blue is a good choice.

    Bas,

Here's a video of Junkyard Digs & Mook exploring a junk yard in Minnesota. Suggest skipping to 7:00 mark where they enter the yard and when you get tired of the roaming around skip again to 20:00 when they find an outbuilding stuffed with engines and such.

Knowing it is very heavy when fully populated and looking through the pictures I'm a little concerned about structural integrity of the the playfield. In particular, the area on the left side marked with red lines in these two screen shots:

    Possible weak point
    and
    Possible weak point

I believe the pivot point for lifting the playfield is toward the rear of the machine from this point. I'm not a mechanical engineer so check my logic, but essentially every time you lift and lower the playfield you are using it as a lever and the weight attached to it acts as resistance to the motion. As it would be awful to see splintering develop, it would seem prudent to put some reinforcement on the underside in this area (along blue line):

    Reinforce here

I'd guess reducing the weight of what gets attached should help too. Can't do much about coil weight but are there places where plastic or aluminum can be substituted?

If somebody following along is a mechanical engineer perhaps they correct or confirm my thinking!

Ha - Wife bought this one new back in the day and every couple of years it comes out of hiding. Covid brought it out this time. The only cartridge we have is Tetris - I would have taken a shot with the game on but she has run the batteries dead. Crazy-addictive game.

That's really impressive. I made a DIY playfield protector for a game in 2018 - it came out nice enough but it took me a long time. You guys just knock it out in one evening running power tools directly over your one-of-a-kind playfield - amazing (and gutsy!)

Here's an old thread that documents the one I created: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/i-made-a-playfield-protector-self-evaulation

Allright...got one soldered in...phew...without reading glasses i wouldn’t be able to solder these tiny wires.
So strange? It’s like my short sight went south overnight acouple of months ago...it really bothers me , i can’t see shit when i am under the dash of my Monte Carlo for example...if this is the new me,i am gonna have my eyes lasered?
Everything takes 25% longer to do now(i always misplace my glasses,or i am searching for them while i shoved them up in my hair)

Man, I resemble that remark. I'm about 1.5 year into bifocals now after my arms finally proved too short for holding my phone at a reading distance. Even with them I need additional magnification for any precise soldering. It's crazy how it happens so quickly - less than 3 years ago I had no issues at all.
