I think you should rename this pin "Curse of the Black Thumbnail" : - )

    Quoted from Zitt:

I'd be concerned about that pot being used in series with the motor.
Most pots... esp something this small; only handle 250mW of power... and that motor is going to take a lot of current.
You need to investigate using PWM to drive the motor to slow it down ... I'm pretty sure that pot won't last very long in it's current use model.

I'm sure that board IS a PWM circuit and not just a resistor, look at all the active stuff. Arduino reading a voltage divider and doing PWM to a switching FET, probably exactly what you were thinking of. Just my guess of course.

    Quoted from Zitt:

The board total for the original dremel was no more than:
    7W / 18V or .388amps or 388 mA.

The spec on the tool is for the motor, not the speed control. The control might supply many times that amount. Current FETs (4th gen?) in a TO-220 package can typically supply many amps.

    Amigos,

Could you talk a bit about how you made the servos move using the Pololu board and MPF/FAST?

I'm curious to see how this is done. Thanks and gracias!

    #4436 5 years ago

I bought a Maestro to play with it, fun. I also used the Arduino "servo" library to run one for a switch life tester, shown here. Interface was any cell phone, like my PinRemote product.

So I'm really interested to see how MPF controls them. I'd like to build an "all servo" pin someday (save the flippers, they need coils). All servos and magnets that is.

    Question for the PinMavens:

How did you interface the Pololu Maestro PCB to the FAST system?

    Thanks and good holidays,

    Mike

Thought I would design a different logo for you guys to judge. Includes beer as do all your videos ( - :

I did a video on that bro,a few pages ago!

I know you described how the MPF code worked but don't remember you showing the hardware connection of Maestro to FAST.

If you did show that then I'll find it, if not please share what you did. I assume the Maestro is fed serial RS232 data.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Quoted from jabdoa:

Nice. Thanks for all the kind words! Can we link that from the MPF documentation (probably at the pololu page)?

The video that was posted (#4438) just talks about MPF code stuff, but the above might have what I want to see. Let's dig in further!

Again, have a great vaca and enjoy your family!

    #4576 5 years ago

Yup, here is a snippet of the MPF documentation on hooking the Pololu Maestro up. The COM port number is whatever the controlling PC assigns to the FTDI chip on the Maestro. It isn't driven by any part of the FAST hardware (correct me if I'm wrong about that):

One more thing on servos - you can also drive them from an I2C bus using this Adafruit board: https://www.adafruit.com/product/815 via MPF.

These boards do generalized PWM stuff which could be handy for motor speed control using an H-bridge (I imagine)

You can chain these $15 PCBs together (up to 62 of them!) for a total of 992 servos.

You might chose I2C if you were going to have an embedded host controller that supports that interface (more of a commercial pin solution than a one-off as many homebrewers might be doing)

    OK, back to the show!

Gonna look into Despicable Me today, after a windows update, the entire framework is flatlining....boohoo
Can’t get it running at all?

I see one thing that could be causing problems. You are operating in a directory named ".../THE SAVE 4.8 YES!" Lots of software packages can't tolerate spaces and special characters (!) in file paths. Notice all the paths on that DOS command window don't have spaces in them.

    Just something to try.

DLLs are "Demand Link Libraries" - ways to share common code between different partitions (users), a bane of Windows

Finished my CorelDraw (vector) rendition of the Pinball Amigos logo offered here as a PDF for a project I'm doing.

In case you want to cover the side of a semi with it!

    AMIGOS!

Spent last weekend in Albuquerque at an AirBnB where the host (Danielle) was from Holland! She was very cool and it was a wonderful and inexpensive place to stay.

So funny, when she scolded her children it was all in Dutch! All I could tell was they were misbehaving.

Here is a picture of her and her two boys and also a picture of her tablecloth. I'm sure it will make you homesick! (Oh wait, …)

I see one straight guy macking on a lassie but also two (what appear to be) poofdas! All good, I'm sure they're just gay in the old "When Johnnie comes marching home" sense. ( - : Or drinking Heineken as you should be and bonding.

    Quoted from jabdoa:

Almost any pinball controller has PWM output (because that is how you controller power on coils). That would probably have worked for the meter as well.

A d'arsonval movement is typically 1 mA full scale, so to do this would require figuring out the proper dropping resistor. Not a good path but it could be done IMHO.

It is now on my bucket list to visit you guys.

Speaking of floppies this baby holds the equivalent of 177,777 floppies, is the same size as a penny only thinner!

    AMAZING
