    Question for the PinMavens:

How did you interface the Pololu Maestro PCB to the FAST system?

    Thanks and good holidays,

So to update everybody of our whereabouts:
I took the family on a Tesla supercharger vacation to Denmark....the car calculates a route for you passing superchargers...
These things fill up your battery in 40 minutes.

    #4559 5 years ago

The red dots on the screen are these superchargers...mostly located near a hotel or gas station.
I thought it would be annoying to wait for the car to charge but it gives you a chance to stretch your legs and eat icecream and stuff.
(My car has free supercharging for life so you save a lot of money...but somehow next to every supercharger there is a fucking burger king where the kids wanna go to.....so you actually lose money with an electric car...all gains go to burger king!? )

Your car tells you via your iphone when you have enuff power to make it to the next supercharger...

Inside the car it looks like this on the big screen...this was a superfast charger...they vary in charging speed...it also depends on how many Teslas are charging...
But this particular one charged 480km in one hour?!

.look at how shaving cream is called over here.

The idea that you know all the American slang makes your observations and comments all that more amusing. I would say most Europeans would not know the 'double meaning' (to Americans) of some of those phrases. After living in Germany for 2 years, I know a lot of these, such as "ausfahrt" or "exit", which is hilarious to us. It's like saying 'out fart', which IS sort of an 'exit'! Haaaaaaaaa!

Same with "auspuff". Sort of perfectly describes a 'muffler' on a car, which is what it means for those of you who do not speak German. The German word is an onomatopoeia. Don't know if it is purposeful, but it sure seems to fit that category of a word where it sounds like the object's function or sound.

The 'Barber SKUM' is the best yet! I looked up that word on the Danish translator and it means 'foam'. But it sure sounds like nasty 'scum' to us Americans, and obviously to you too!

Loved learning how the Tesla works. Have a safe and enjoyable trip! And . . . you didn't tell us WHY you went to Denmark. Was that a rental home? What did you do there? If we are going to be 'family', then we need to know all your personal shit too! Haaaaaaaaaa!

I know you described how the MPF code worked but don't remember you showing the hardware connection of Maestro to FAST.

If you did show that then I'll find it, if not please share what you did. I assume the Maestro is fed serial RS232 data.

    Thanks for sharing!

    #4575 5 years ago
    Quoted from jabdoa:

Nice. Thanks for all the kind words! Can we link that from the MPF documentation (probably at the pololu page)?

The video that was posted (#4438) just talks about MPF code stuff, but the above might have what I want to see. Let's dig in further!

Again, have a great vaca and enjoy your family!

    #4576 5 years ago

Yup, here is a snippet of the MPF documentation on hooking the Pololu Maestro up. The COM port number is whatever the controlling PC assigns to the FTDI chip on the Maestro. It isn't driven by any part of the FAST hardware (correct me if I'm wrong about that):

One more thing on servos - you can also drive them from an I2C bus using this Adafruit board: https://www.adafruit.com/product/815 via MPF.

These boards do generalized PWM stuff which could be handy for motor speed control using an H-bridge (I imagine)

You can chain these $15 PCBs together (up to 62 of them!) for a total of 992 servos.

You might chose I2C if you were going to have an embedded host controller that supports that interface (more of a commercial pin solution than a one-off as many homebrewers might be doing)

    OK, back to the show!

Yeah. The Maestro usually connects via USB. Other ways exist but USB is the most convenient way. Those I2C solutions also work well but require a bit more manual work like soldering the bus. You also need an I2C connector somehow. Either an RPi, USB to I2C adapter or the P3-Roc. Lot of options but I would generally recommend the Maestro because it's easier and more robust.

Yeah some quality time with my wife and kids is important,as an entrepeneur, cryptocoin addict, guitar player, vintage car enthousiast and pinball builder i often find my days to be way too short!
I have way too much hobbys to fit in one day so 2 weeks with the family is a must else they forget my name

Yeah the skull could fit somewhere on the playfield,we could saw off it’s jaw and attach it to a servo so we can make it talk too...
It is decorative and a perfect size!
Not too small so it fades away in the playfield and not to big to fit it somewhere...real nice find.
I also found a weird thing with copper bells that has very nice patina, almost eroded...(for the life of me,i don’t understand the purpose of the thing?)
I bought it cuz we might make bell towers on the 2 backbox towers(i have to ask the guys what they think first...)
Maybe in a certain game mode if you hit any playfield target , these bells move left and right with servos.
They make a strange, creepy off-key sound...(maybe cuz they are eroded)
    My idea:
Maybe back in the glory days of the crazy mansion, the patients of the mansion were called inside for dinner with these tower bells.
    Feel it?

Hey, you’re near Gilleleje! A friend of mine lives there! He used to have a bunch of pinball machines but sadly got out of the hobby. I bought a No Good Gophers from him. Enjoy your Danish vacation. And if you see a pølsevogn (hotdog stand) you should order a ‘ristet hotdog med det hele’ (hotdog with everything on it)! Best hotdog in the world!
