I am going to convert my EM that is currently in pieces to use all Torx bits! Then send it to the Netherlands where such a tool does not exist- and offer free repair services with a paid airfare

Hahaha we have torx bro, only our allen keys are a different thickness so ours are shit when you want to repair a pinball.
You guys have a very weird metric system...why 1 3/16 inch and stuff?
And 6 foot? Why on earth would you want to measure something by an amount of feet
Over here,i measure 1 meter and 90 centimeter in length...in the usa i am 6 foot 2 or sumtin’
When you are born on this side of the atlantic,it is just so silly?
    Why a foot?
    Why not hotdogs??
They vary way less in size?
    I’d be 12 hotdogs long?!
Feet often vary in size a lot?
I mean...who’s foot became the standard?
The guy who invented the metric foot?
Or is it an average of the average human foot?
Did they include little people in the calculation?
    I need info on that!

    Good Luck! LOL...

I use the metric system for work, it makes sense and once you know it, it is actually easier. The USA was trying to convert to it a while back, but pretty much gave up on that idea.

So for now we still have our mile, yard, foot, and inch to name a few.

    Quoted from HD_Fatboy:

but pretty much gave up on that idea.

If I recall it was big manufacturing that was some of the largest nay sayers about it, tooling changes etc would cost, and yet my F150 I purchased, made here in the U S, had a huge METRIC stamped into the oil pan so proper tools would be used. That was 2008!
    Now, back to the show.

C'mon, is the meter definition more clever?
The meter is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299 792 458
    second. Very realistic.

    #2606 6 years ago

I tryed them thar metriks thangs one tyme and I jess didn lack it. No sir . . . didn lack it a-tall!!!

I kin unnerstan foots and feets and enches and all . . . but not them thar metriks. We is gonna keep to the REEL mezzurments 'round these parts . . . good ole Amurikan messurments!

Them fancy mezzurments from Urope are just flat out rong!!! Thas why we are gude at so menny thangs and you alls is nott!!!!!

    #2607 6 years ago

Just to be clear, the foot goes way back in many cultures. The British Colonies were "given" the Imperial measurement system... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_(unit)

    #2608 6 years ago

At least we don't measure weight in stones

    #2609 6 years ago

Curiously, in the U.S., illicit drugs are sold in both grams and ounces.

and 'rocks' - how many rocks goes into a stone?

    #2611 6 years ago

So i read the wiki and this is quite interesting:

“A foot is by international agreement as equivalent to 0.3048 meters exactly.”

Wikipedia acknowledges that a foot is actually 0.3048 meters!
    See?
    MIC DROP!
Even wikipedia uses the metric system to explain what a foot actually is!
(I am pulling your leg guys..ofcourse you accept what is used and taught around you in life).
But it is real funny if you think about it...for example:how do three foot become a yard?
As a European it is hard to wrap your head around that...we can measure a size of something to the millimeter exact.
A pinball cab is 135,5 cm in length,i could never call it “a yard, one foot and 6 inches”.

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

a foot is actually 0.3048 meters

Nooooo. A foot is actually 12 inches!!! Can you not see how easy this is?!!!

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

or example:how do three foot become a yard

First off, we don't say three 'foot'. It is three 'feet'. You use 'foot' when referring to only ONE FOOT. All the rest are plural, as in 3 FEET.
Here's some history for you. Three feet became a yard when a guy asked for one ARM'S LENGTH of material to make some clothing.
    3 feet = 1 ARM length = 1 yard

    Quoted from pinballrockstar:

A pinball cab is 135,5 cm in length,i could never call it “a yard, one foot and 6 inches”.

Oh, goodness! Everyone knows a pinball cabinet is 4 feet 5 11/32 inches! Or, simply: Nearly 54".
Yards are not quoted in furniture, cabinets, and the like. Yards are only used in describing cloth, concrete, and football (American style).

That's why a team gets another "First Down" in the game . . . they ran with the ball for 10 YARDS. TV announcers cannot very easily tell us where the ball ended up by describing it in metrics, as in: "And the team gets a first down because they ran the ball 9.144 meters!!!!" That has NO excitement in it. By the time he would spit all that meter stuff out, the next play would already be over!!! People would go crazy trying to visualize 9.144 meters. How do you mentally see that?! Everyone knows that 10 yards equals three arms and one foot (measured only with the shoe on!)! Sheeeeeshe!

You Europeans are really unscientific!!! I can't understand why you don't use the 'original authentic measurement system' invented by your neighbors just right across the Channel!!!???!!! But, NOOOO! You had to go and mess it up with some kind of cm's and km's and gram shit that nobody can 'see' in their heads!!! I know exactly where 10 yards is on the football field. But there's no way in hell I could tell you where 9.144 meters is!!!

And yes, we can easily do measurements less than a foot. You want 10 inches?
    Here's the formula for 10 inches: LMP + 2 = 10.
That is: "(The) Length of My Penis + 2 inches = 10 inches". See how easy it is?!

    #2614 6 years ago

zaza . . . . I laughed myself silly over that!!! Did you create this yourself? If so, that was damned clever.

See . . . pinballrockstar . . . the name of the movie just sounds dumb when you convert it to meters!

How about the movie: "The Longest Yard". They would never sell a ticket if it was called "The Longest Meter", or "The Longest 0.9144"

    #2615 6 years ago

I’m totally down to convert over to metric - it makes so much more sense. However, the differences in where periods and commas go drives me a little nuts (and doesn’t seem consistent even across countries using metric I think?) Can we meet in the middle ? We will convert to metric, but we agree to seperate thousands with a comma and periods for fractions of the whole?

I made an attempt at humor mainly for YOUR enjoyment, Mr. pinballrockstar. But I see I have been down-voted, and it appears 'someone' doesn't seem to get the drift of my dry humor. I am hoping you take this as a fun thing and not a slam at you. Some readers may not see this was my attempt at self-deprecation: Making fun of myself and our 'American ways'.

The only thing REAL in my post was about football. If the field was divided by metrics, the people would be absolutely baffled and confused, and the sport would probably die. We need our 10 Yards to get our First Downs!

No man,i really enjoyed this and i learned a lot.
Did not misinterpreted your post at all dude..
I really get it now,in movies you always here the narrator shouting about a 10 yard line.
It is indeed an instant visual in your head.
I like everything usa since i was a kid man...so i am always very keen to learn stuff.
With you guys,i get educated by the pros and i feel blessed we can debate about stuff sometimes.
40 years ago all of this wasn’t possible,we wouldn’t be able to have a cosy topic on pinside together.
    Beautiful time to be alive...

Zaza,dude...legend...like...the perfect joke in this piece about the metric system.
You rock brother..i showed it to literally everybody

    #2618 6 years ago

Yeah, some units are better to leave it as it is, but temperature in Fahrenheit, c'mon.
It is very simple, water freezes below 0 ºC and boils at 100 ºC so from now on we can use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit.
And when it is 20 °C outside, we say 'lekker weertje' (nice weather)

But glad we use the same days of the week and today we say "It's FRIDAY !, amigos day"

    #2619 6 years ago

Finally caught back up with the thread a solid 31 pages of reading updates, games looking phenomenal you guys know how to make things unique and special

Really interested in seeing how you handle and deal with the smoke you mention that’s going to be really interesting to see.

relax! It's just a downvote! Haha, i was just disagreeing that everyone else isn't familiar with metric. We use the metric system in Canada. (We also had to learn imperial system too) hope that upside down thumb didn't keep you up last nite!(humour!)

The giant wire form ramp from rescue 911 is almost at the post office...it is traveling to Monkeybug in Canada...a fellow Fast user who needs it for a rescue 911 retheme on Fast.
Always supportive of projects like that
