Ah! Found my digital old box with pictures of former restaurations..
This Chevy Monza 5.0 V8 was my first usa car, bought it at auction,i was in the audience, bidding with my number just like Barrett Jackson (only difference was the garbage cars being sold).
Anyway, snatched this for €700 which was cheap as hell for a driving V8.

It eventually turned into this,i was really proud of it,nobody drove a car like this,i loved it...during this car being painted i actually met beard (years ago.)

Corners missing on a lot of stuff due to the rust monster...
This was my first shop btw,i had 2 parking spaces under my house and put 2 secondhand garage doors in without a permit...i was later dragged to court by the neighboorhood because they felt i was taking away parking space in the area..
To my surprise i won the case after a 2 year battle.

One day i walked into my shop and i realised this was the lowest low(also the name of this picture in my computer)...you always hit this point in a build.
A point when someone can come and pick the car up for free as long at it is out of your life...that’s the moment the boys are seperated from the men...push through people!!!

Bas, what is the appreciation level for an American musclecar restoration like that in the Netherlands? Do people "Get it" or are they indifferent?

    #10465 4 years ago
    Quoted from ReadyPO:

Bas, what is the appreciation level for an American musclecar restoration like that in the Netherlands? Do people "Get it" or are they indifferent?

Well, yeah, all the usa shows have aired here over time, pimp my ride/american chopper/american hotrod/fast and loud/overhauling...
So guys over here experience it the same as everywhere and totally dig it but from my experience only a few know what brand a USA car is...everybody knows Mustang and Camaro etc.
For example when i park my ‘59 Plymouth Fury, there’s always some dude walking up going like;”hey that’s a Bel Air right?!” .
That is cringe you need to deal with over here...when i trailered the Monte for the paint boot a dude shouted;” nice Ford bro!” ... and i just laugh and go like;”yeah great Ford right? (....dumb fuck...)
But people generally stop walking on the sidewalk to watch you drive by cuz classics are much more rare than in the USA.
Most of the guys don’t start on a restauration over here cuz they know parts are scarce so it feels kinda pointless to start doing it...let alone finding cheap space to do it..
So overall i would say yes, everybody generally appreciates it but can’t tell a GM 305 from a Ford 351 cleveland.
That’s kinda how it is over here...unless you are a nerd like me

    Bas,

Here's a video of Junkyard Digs & Mook exploring a junk yard in Minnesota. Suggest skipping to 7:00 mark where they enter the yard and when you get tired of the roaming around skip again to 20:00 when they find an outbuilding stuffed with engines and such.

Well, that is pretty much the same here in the midwest, though few would get a ford and chevy confused - that would be fighting words in some quarters

Since were talking cars, Here's my 86 ss, I'll drive this till the wheels fall off. Then I'll put them back on lol
