Quoted from waveman:Woot! Thank you for making our Friday's fun again
Quoted from alexmogil:You all are so dedicated and I love the work you do. Thank you so much for documenting your journeys!
Thanks guys,good to be back
Quoted from Atari_Daze:Alright guys, about bloody time you got started on the new build! Glad to see you again
And good to see you 2 buddy
Quoted from swinks:welcome back guys, have fun, watching..........
Quoted from Fairground:Ahhhhh Fridays are good again, thanks Amigos.
Yeah let's have some fun!
Thanks everybody, oncoming weeks we will be figuring out our layout, parts we'll use etc.
We have big and crazy plans for this pin.
With some funny "first in pinball" stuff.
Let's have some fun
Yeah, really want to pull this off man.
We need to take it slow to figure out a super layout.
Every shot has to be killer.
That is our first goal..
Last time we built on the fly and you run into trouble that way.
We are building the cabinet ourselves too...so we can say we built this thing from the ground up.
We plan on wiring it ourselves too.
That way you are not working with a big spaghetti mess with risk of shorting your P-ROC board...proof right here
Quoted from Bugsy:Are you going to include any hidden Minions easter eggs, to pay homage to your very first build?
Hahaha that is actually a fun idea!
Sidenote..
Quoted from Pahuffman:Are we still getting updates every Friday?!
Most fridays we will update, cause we have our Amigos meeting at my house on a friday but we are absolutely taking a more relaxed approach this time around.
Our first project felt like going to work sometimes.
This new machine is going to be legend.
We build some skills with Despicable Me Pinball Madness...now it's time for the real deal.
Quoted from Bugsy:If you're not pumping out at least 3 games a year, you're never going to make it in this business.
Lol
Show us your pinball Bugsy!
Put your money where your mouth is hahaha
Added over 7 years ago: It is hard enough to build one, three will take a lifetime to build
Quoted from labnip:i can smell the wood isle all the way from Texas
Yeah greatest smell in the world
Quoted from Pahuffman:Why are you building your own cabinet? Why not just use one of the ones you already have?
We need a widebody and gross roadshow is our only widebody cab..
We want to entirely build this pin...no old shit cabinet but our own awesome, handbuild custom pinball.
So...inbetween the sawmill that we run tonight, let me tell you something 'bout the Crazy Mansion..
Our playfield features a big abandoned insane asylum mansion where the ghosts of long forgotten patiënts are still present.
Your objective is to free the lunatics with each minigame.
Paranormal mode and such if you will...
If you free all the crazy ghosts you reach the wizard mode.
So why the helicopter mechanic picture you ask??
Well..one of our crazy patients from the past strongly believes he has been abducted by aliens...we are going to convert this mech into a ufo like afm...but better!
In this first mode we all agreed on,the ufo flies over the mansion and tries to abduct the poor crazy dude.
We ordered a little smoke machine that is normally used in rc tanks...
We are going to run a tube to the ufo so it emits smoke with blinking led during its flight.
First in pinball!
Quoted from Frax:you find some way to make it more reliable. My understand is it's pretty flaky.
Mostly the gear that craps out..ours is in good shape
This is the rc smoke machine for the ufo , we will be the first ones with a smoking ufo for dramatic effect.
Leds will illuminate the smoke under the ufo and after the mode,a cabinet fan will suck the smoke from the playfield real quick through the back and out the machine.
Quoted from labnip:y'all need to get that minions pin outta there before you start pulling parts from it to make the new much more awesomer-pin.
i could easily store it for ya, until you want it back...
We were just looking at it and figured gru's house would make an awesome mansion with some ellbow grease
Quoted from desertT1:Check ebay for the Mitre bit. I just got one last week for a really good price. And practice on scrap first to set it up. You don't want to scrap your great cabinet parts because the bit wasn't set up correctly. Once it's set up, make a guide from some scrap so setting up next time is a breeze.
Yeah mic ordered one, hope we have it by next week friday
Quoted from rufessor:ill the mansion have a destroyed look to it with rooms inside and maybe a open roof so you can watch the abduction occur? Just thinking it would be super cool if it could somehow work to see in the mansion and have the ball actually interact in a tiny space.... like Maybe two rooms your ball could enter each just a few- 20 sq inches or something- but when the ball got in, by a mech other than flippers and that you don't control- it went crazy bouncing off the padded walls. Maybe sling like mechs in a room to bounce ball around like super crazy for a few secs and a random like switch that triggers most of the time you get the ball in the mansion. Thinking what MM would be like if you could see in the castle and the ball went crazy in there then jumped out!
Yes,it is going to be an abandoned mansion with plaster fallen off here and there, revealing the bricks underneath, some dirt spots and climbing plants..
The plan is,like rescue 911,you shoot the ball in midplayfield left lock,we have a curved row of inserts in the flying path of the ufo..
The playfield lights black out..
The ufo illuminates and starts smoking and appears from behind the backboard.
Every insert that lights up has images of this scared lunatic on em and you'll need to tapyour flipperbuttons like crazy to keep up with the ufo.
(Cause you actually want to get abducted by the aliens in order to escape the Crazy Mansion)
When the ufo reaches the ball lock and you lit the last insert and thus kept up with the ufo,the upkicker shoots the ball against the electro magnet under the ufo and the ball/lunatic gets "abducted"
Quoted from oldskool1969:CRANKY DUDE needs to be in the pin as a character!
No he cut 2 pieces of wood too short by a quarter inch,well...maybe we use him in the shock therapy mode...what a dick..
Quoted from swinks:also that wireform if used on the launch can be like a jump a gorge or moat to get into the mansion ??? just ideas - cool theme and great following already - 77 people in a week - woo hoo
i designed this arch ages ago, could fit nicely as a one off
We are planning on a "dumpster dive" for the skill shot... mic bought a dumpster on ebay and we'll see how that pans out.
Your idea is really something to consider,it ties the theme together.
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:We may have to chat more....or see who finishes first....Ive been working on smoke in a few different ways, on a champagne fire pin.....
Quoted from rufessor:SMOKE!!
Video or it didn't happen. Just sayin!
Smoke rules!
Quoted from swinks:cool, maybe for the translite a interactive image of a mansion with windows lighting up showing progress through the mansion and a lit window can be a ghost that is freed. I still remember from 30 odd years ago going to the Efteling's Haunted Castle with the hand and arm holding the chandelier in the main room.
We will show our plans for the backbox next week...our thoughts aren't far apart actually, but we have an extraordinary cool toy for the backbox..
One head(for some reason there is 4 heads in the roadshow parts cab) is complete with all coils and linkage, the other one only has the mouth functioning, but that is actually fine...you only have so much connections in your coil section and these heads use up a lot of them.
Red is the complete head...and ted is incomplete...i have 2 faces though
Quoted from MarkInc:Maybe use servos instead of dc motors?
Yeah,i think this can be simplified by a lightyear...but just doodling with the stuff we have,i looked up the roadshow manual online and it is a fairly simple wiring.
I just located the original print, still there.
This connector feeds current and "reverse pulse" to the heads board.
It just might work as it is?
Quoted from Chitownpinball:They should sing creepy songs and harmonize lol. They should also make fun of each other.
Yeah!
They should totally sing "row your boat" but real creepy and reverbed and such.
Ah man!
Just got an awesome idea!
What if i remove this kickback coil and we make a pipe for the ball way down through the entire cabinet,to the coin door, where a coil can free the ball at certain occasions?
It should fall into a little bowl in front of the coindoor (an led pulsing there to indicate it is there and the patient needs a pill)(or his medication if you will).
That pinball could be spray painted like a capsule two tone pill.
Gameplay should halt and the head opens his mouth after he says something insane about needing his meds might you need his guidance throughout the game!
Quoted from Manimal:Mary had a little lamb.........that she STRANGLED!
Yeah! Cooool
Quoted from tfduda:Like where this is heading. You could make them look like this guy...
Yeah i know that guy..he is c-razy!
Quoted from Manimal:And multiple pills can do some really strange stuff...........I like it
BOOM!!
Quoted from MarkInc:Pills: You could use it like the back box bonus count on "300"
BOOOOM!!!!
You catch my drift right
Quoted from meSz:I see your manufacturing plant has a pool???? That place has everything!!
And we have dental,it is great
Quoted from meSz:This thread just went in a completely different direction! BTW (I hope you don't mind) but I think the wig looks good on ya! I would change the ribbon colors!
Ohhh!!!?? NOW it changes direction!
You going dark on me bro?!
Quoted from Chitownpinball:Are you going to paint there faces really pale? They are WAY TOO TAN! lol
Yep they need to be institute white
Quoted from J85M:Careful doing that, might get a little prick in your hand
Oh no!
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Just got home from work and ready to see how you guys are doing, this is awesome!
Keep it up!
Hey man! Welcome to the Crazy Mansion!
Good to see you
Quoted from maffewl:This may have been stated already, but I'd drop the "The" from the title. "Crazy Mansion" has a better sound to it. My .02. Keep up the awesomeness!
Man i just found the H
Quoted from J85M:It's a sign you should dig for treasure!
H marks the spot right!?
Dude i am not thát drnuk...dnruk...DRUNK
Quoted from lpierrick:gezondheid Guys !! Many thanks and good weekend
You too!
Quoted from swillie:Well Fridays continue to be awesome thanks to this new pinball build. Kudos to you guys for barely letting off the gas after the Minions build and slamming the pedal to the floor on this one. Very entertaining.
Thank you..
We paused for a bit,but we had so many great ideas for the Crazy Mansion..we just had to start.
Quoted from mgpasman:Haha, I can see you guys pumping out 300 of these bad boys even before Dutch Pinball .
Do i hear a pre order
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:Hi Bas,
Please Water the plant on the table, and pull some weeds!
Ha!
All my plants always die
Quoted from Marten:Get some plastic ones! They have some really good ones nowadays. My wife put some in a basket in the garden and I watered them for two weeks until she told me they were plastic.
Hahaha, yeah that stuff looks so real
Quoted from Marten:I like the talking heads in the backbox but does that mean all the boards are going to be somewhere under the playfield?
Yes..great ideas always have way greater consequences.
We are wiring the whole Crazy Mansion ourselves this time around so we will relocate the boards in the cabinet.
This time we are shooting for a conventional Bally widebody style cab and backbox, but the backbox will have an entirely different purpose.
We like to add mechanics to the backbox so it does cool stuff.
JJP has its lcd backboxes,we want our pins to have extra mechs in there...people will be shocked to see our backbox talking.
Crazy thoughts all the time.
Even the dmd is going to be located in the cabinet, wait till you see what we have planned with that!
Never been done before, suuuuuper awesome(god i wish this pin was done tomorrow!!! Can't wait to see what it looks like).
Quoted from Puffdanny:Great work guys!!!!! If I ever make it back to Amsterdam I need to stop buy and shoot the shit for a few. By the way Amsterdam has some strange "coffee"
Quoted from J85M:Best damn coffee shops in the world!
The Dutch invented weed man
Quoted from chad:Ala the movies House on Haunted Hill.....
Never heard of that, gonna look that up
The cabinet is insanely big looking at it today, exact roadshow size is really big man
Quoted from J85M:is that the final placement for the game title text on the side of the cabinet?
No man we have a supercool plan for the letters,it is gonna suck to execute but nobody will have a cabinet like ours.
Maybe we do that next week!
Quoted from J85M:I've smoked a lot of weed in a lot of country's and the weed in Amsterdam is some of the best!
Now V8s that's definitely something Americans perfected!
Weed from Amsterdam, Pinball and American muscle V8s to cruise around in, if that's what heavens like then lord take me now
You forgot boobs, there should be boobs too!
Quoted from Nelly:How these guys aren't blind or missing fingers by now is beyond me.
Safety first fellas!
Don't try this at home kids!
We are very stupid
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:What is up with this extra ply?
That is the special layer
Quoted from Travish:Pinside needs to send y'all a outside work table so your not on the ground or having to hold the work on your hand.
Yeah? We need a table
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Wow, great job. Poor Road Show.
Love Dick's shirt, it's like camouflage for a volcano.
Where is Dick?
Where is he?!
Quoted from zerbam:i think you need a hole between the cabinet and the backbox
Our prints are not being mounted in the backbox,we only need to feed a few wires to the heads in the backbox.
Quoted from J85M:Awesome guys that cabinet looks SOLID!
Thanks,it feels great to build this one from the ground up
Quoted from cybermarco:Please get rid of the T and E also..... Crazy Mansion sounds better than THE Crazy Mansion, I think.
You guys are great, looking forward to reading this thread
Hm,yeah maybe there is a reason these specific letters keep falling off.
Quoted from aobrien5:You weren't planning on mixing those two, right?!
Oh yeah they mix very well?!
It just tastes like shit, that's all
Quoted from jokerpoker:Hope you have some nice chrome hinges and hardware coming too. This thing needs to be pimped.
Great effort. Although I did notice that only after making four triangle bit :-/=of wood it was drinks time. Seriously thinking this will take some time.
The backbox hinges will be black, but we ordered chrome siderails and lockbar.
Quoted from toyotaboy:are you planning on a coin door? Did you at least make the cabinet backbox a standard size so that it can use standard glass?
The whole cab is exactly roadshow widebody size so the glass will fit.
We will add a coindoor but we are debating if it is going to be standard or crazy.
Quoted from BorgDog:Ha, I'm surprised they even made a standard looking backbox at all! glass is cheap any size you want, except for that invisible stuff.
We are focusing on the mansion on the playfield this time , we wanted to do another mansion backbox but then the roadshow heads idea came along.
Quoted from Travish:It already has the invisible stuff. I can't see a thing.
Lol
Quoted from J85M:Maybe just install the coindoor upside down
Yeah,or my favorite option : in a weird angled way, whatever we choose,it will be weird and it will look like an obvious joke.
Quoted from J85M:You couldn't build a much more flamboyant and crazy backbox than the Minions one that was all sorts of cool. Having the Mansion (starting to sound like an insane asylum) under the glass will be cool, best games are the ones that have that "world under glass" feel to them.
Thanks for your minion compliment,it was a crazy amount of work but we just had to do it..such a great idea..
I also really like the world under the glass,it just rocks if there is a wide variety of shots, toys, holes and hidden stuff..
We are gonna think this one through real well..
This theme, executed well, has the potention to become an epic build.
Quoted from tommyp:Everytime I saw something needed to be tweaked on p5, my mind read twerk for some reason. Thank you for not twerking.
Yeah that's not gonna happen dude
Quoted from yoyokopter:I love your new project , I love Friday
Fridays are great right?
Quoted from GimpMaster:Looking good
Thanks man
Quoted from Zitt:You should have captured that spider... freeze dryed him... and added him to your game as a toy!
I am totally gonna find that spider John and use it on the mansion
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:Couldnt find the Spider, but this size wolf spider greeted me above the John at 3 AM 2 nights ago.....
.....and I hate Spiders!!
Woke the wife....fast bugger.....had to vacuum.....He jumped all over the walls....
You are a hero,i would have torched my house
Quoted from fordtudoor:I thought you guys purchased a lock miter bit for your router. For your second title it is time to step up your game. Shame to put deck screws through nice "Baltic birch plywood".
The thing is hard to get, ordered it on aliexpress but takes forever.
Our fingers were itching!!
On my way home in the '59 Fury..nothing beats driving that old rusty car..
Stones playing,40 mph,all is good.
On my way to friday's crazy mansion...
Quoted from swinks:not sure about roadshow but the hang brackets normally are on the underside of the playfield, which isn't a big deal at the moment but changes the depth of the playfield and angle.
awesome night's work guys
Oh lol, forgot to tell y'all we went down 2 cm on the rear of the playfield and thus we screwed the front hinges on the playfield which also makes 2 cm..
We are adding a support plate under the playfield later.
A ufo will fly over the mansion and we need clearance to do so.
So we lowered the playfield 2cm from standard location.
Quoted from FunriseGuy:Deleted post
Hahaha,he thinks we are from Norway..
This shirt is a joke referring to your boss and annoying colleages at work..and yes in a dr.evil kind of way.
I guess we need an emoticon everywhere these days...
Man stuff can go south quick over here
Okay,to inject some positive vibes,i was listening to coast2coast and to my surprise we are on coast2coastpinball.com episode 233 !
http://www.coast2coastpinball.com
Or
http://www.podcastgarden.com/podcast/coast2coastpinball
At about 35:20 we get mentioned in a way we are really proud of.
Too bad Nate never saw Despicable me nor the minion movie,it explains so much why the pin looks the way it looks..
But even though,we were real proud to be mentioned!
Quoted from spinal:Please don't respond to inflamatory posts - instead report and have posts deleted. This is a great thread and should not be derailed by trolls who do this for sport. Keep up the great work guys!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll
Quoted from BleacherBum:Hey Amigos,
I really enjoy your update threads. This one is off to a great start. The level of build detail that you share with humorous bits thrown in make these updates a much read. Keep up the good work!
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Ignore that mess, Mic's shirt is great. I'd wear it to work.
Aah great,i was afraid for a sec everybody hated us.
Humour is a thin line and maybe the guy had a shitty day..you don't know.
It is easy to misinterpreted stuff on a forum.
Mic appearantly pushed him over the edge
No sweat,but to be clear:
We hate violence,we like humour and we love pinball
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:OK, OK, I hate you.
Feel Better?
Glorious Friday Night!
In response to the Troll, the 3 Amigos will work Topless in Next weeks Post!
Yeah! See if you are happy with that!
Male boobs all friday
Quoted from rufessor:Rocking the playfield build. The motor was fun- is this for the heads? Curious how much it will need to run.
The ideas are awesome!
RE: thread morale:
The beatings will continue until morale improves
Oh,you missed the first bit,it is the helicopter motor that used to run on 95v AC.
I converted it to "anything,as long as it is DC".
It runs real smooth,i have to reverse the current though,i'll be using 4 relais to reverse the current.
Relais are great because the cut the current completely before the other relais put reverse current on the motor.
The old ac setup had 2 motors which is ridiculous, just reverse with current.
This way,i can make the heli(ufo)mech go back and forth.
Quoted from etlandfill:So the long term plan it to bolt them into that support plate you mentioned? With the swap to the top side, it seems like the wood screws would create more stress to the joint than the typical mounting and potentially rip the screws out of the wood after a while. Sounds like you've addressed that, but just wanted to check
Thanks, always shout something if you think we are messing up,better safe than sorry!
Quoted from jayhawkai:If you go into mass production on these games, please include a T-shirt with every pin purchase.
Yeah,a pinball amigos t-shirt!
Man that would be cool, someone in Kansas City wearing our shirt
Quoted from Pahuffman:They have several donor machines that were purchased just for this purpose. There's a Road Show and SpaceJam if I remember correctly and maybe a couple of others.
Indeed,i buy every donor pinball machine i can find,we don't murder random pinball machines.
The minions is a World cup soccer at heart, but that pin was in need of so much repairs...it was barely holding on to life.
So we used it for parts.
We currently have another aged world cup soccer, road show, baywatch, space jam and rescue 911 for parts.
So T-shirts are a good idea?cool...,we will make that a reality soon.
Mic is running that department
Quoted from Ballsofsteel:"BAAAAAAAAAAM!" lets see some more crazy mansion madness!
No dude,it is clearly:
BOOM!
Just messing,let's go!
This is a foam core block i found in the garbage,it is great to make a mock up for the mansion with this
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:Love the trap door!
Hey buddy!
Good you are here!
Yeah, this ramp fits like a glove next to the mansion?
And on the outer left will be the loop,a real superfast loop, with a cool brand new spinner from pinball life!
