    Quoted from pinzrfun:

I confess I am 3/4 of the way through an EK playfield swap that stalled around March when the weather started getting nice again. The other day I set up my non-working EBD project and would rather start poking around with getting that running than finish EK.

I feel that. I have a Mata Hari playfield swap I’m maybe 90% finished with, and I started it well over a year ago. And a C37 swap that I’m 100% done with, but I need to paint the cabinet. Guess I’ll go buy some paint this weekend and clean out my workshop. Or I may wait until Thanksgiving break. So many little projects.

    Quoted from punkin:

I buy a kilo of magic beans from a local roaster here a month. That's two cups a day in the Aeropress. I have a $400 grinder and a $50 press.
LilPiggy ribs put away in the fridge ready for cooking for comp tomoz. Will serve with tater tots and garlic bread and whatever the other people bring. Found some 'rashers' at the supermarket, it's belly without the rib bones, so good, no broken teeth.

    Quoted from snowy_owl:

I confess when I saw all the new posts in this thread I thought "Oh no, people are arguing again". Turns out it was just food and gaming consoles. I'm so used to people yelling at each other about politics, prices, and pinball manufacturers in other threads.
That's one thing I love about this thread: people are almost always friendly and cool on this thread, and I can say basically anything I feel like ranting about.
I confess I hate it when people argue on pinside, although I also find it kinda entertaining. Like with school fights. It's sad that they happen, but it's entertaining when they do.

The problem is nobody is hardly talking about anything interesting.
I get its a pinball place.
When I joined, there were a dozen interesting threads going at a time, thats why I stayed.
Now, its drying up, nobody wants to have in-depth conversations anymore.
It reminds me of a time I went to a quiet little Church in the Country.
The Preachers message was exceptionally good that morning.
Mr. Andrews, who was pushing 90, always set in the same seat every Sunday.
Well, he got blessed and went to stand up real quick and shout, but his foot was lodged under the Pew and got caught.
In seconds two Ushers were there, " Are you alright?"
They thought he must be having a heart attack since nobody ever stood up and shouted in this Church.
    Kinda like that .

When I’m driving down the highway, and I see someone walking back down the highway, I wonder what they are walking back for. Did something blow out of the window? Did they hit something?

    Confession:

    I can't afford location pinball.

    I can't afford coin-drop league pinball.

    I can't afford coin-drop tournament pinball.

I can't really afford this hobby.

I buy one pin at a time and *try* not to lose my shirt on it when I sell it later on. So far I am 0-for-6. I have never *not* lost at least $300 on a resell, despite adding mods and/or investing hours of labor shopping the game.

I squander way too much time reading about pinball on Pinside or TWIP or wherever.

I squander way too much time watching streams of players who *can* afford this hobby.

I confess you won’t want to miss the day EJS LTG and Little Johnny are at the same table. It will happen eventually.

I also confess I’m a little sad I’m responding to PMs saying I won’t be at expo this year.

    Quoted from LTG:

Be here to help set up CCR and you can have first game on it.

Confess I wish I was closer, I would gladly help. I love un-boxing a NIB, and seeing it for the first time, and setting it up, OH! and that new game smell!

Confess I have never been a new vehicle person, some people craves that new car smell, not me.

    Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

So far I am 0-for-6. I have never *not* lost at least $300 on a resell

Unless you buy something so bad that no one wants it I doubt you will lose any money now when you go to sell it.

Which brings me to confess that I wish I had of waited a couple years longer to sell games I was tired of, I was losing back then, but now I could sell and make money.

For the time being though, I am happy with what I have, and I have no plans to buy or sell anything else.

I do miss not being able to look at the games I sold anymore, they were all beautiful to look at, but I still do not miss playing them, I was done playing them.

    Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

    I can't afford location pinball.

Confess back when I wanted to play on location, it cost more in gas to get to a location, than the 20 bucks we would spend playing.

Now there are closer places to play, but so far nothing has came out that I wanted to drive to play. (the last one was Elvira, and my girlfriend said hell no, we need to stay away from crowds), so after a few friends here told me that Elvira was awesome, I ordered it without ever trying one on location.

Confess in other topics here I have said Jaws, or Evil Dead would be great, but really the only game I would sell something to make space for would be Deadliest Catch, I love that show.

And I would not buy that on theme alone, it would have to be very deep code, with some great toys, and callouts from Josh, Casey, and Jonathan, with maybe Sid doing the callouts that you screwed up when the ball drains.

Bonus would be if they could include some of the very funny stuff Phil used to say, before he passed away.

And yeah, sometimes it is crazy how grown-ups want to get on here and argue all the time, I just think "whatever", and move along.

Confess I almost pm someone as much as I post lately. Most of the time now when someone asks something that I think I can help with, instead of posting and clogging a topic, I pm them.

Most of the time that is pretty rewarding and they thank me for helping, and sometimes they never respond back, so maybe some people were just acting like they wanted help, because when that pm number goes to bouncing, it is hard to ignore.

Confess when my pm goes to bouncing, my first thought is always what did I do that I am in trouble here now for. But at the same time, all I have ever been in trouble for was being funny, and someone did not like my humor.

We are all different, and even if we are on a different page, I am super easy going and I can get along with pretty much anyone.

And in the last week I never turned on the first game. I just had beer and read and typed on here in my spare time.

A week ago I cleaned the jacuzzi, and changed the water, and I still have not been in it either.

Confess I guess I am more of a people person than I ever considered myself, because I want to play my games, I want to get in the jacuzzi, but I am just so hooked now reading and posting stuff here that I never have time for the other stuff.

Confess eventually we are going to take a vacation, and never leave here, just play games, get in the jacuzzi, and also play frisbee golf 3 miles away.

(so technically we would have to leave here to play frisbee golf, but no motels in the area, so better to just not get a room, and save money making the 3 mile drive back to my house).

I hope all of you have a AWESOME WEEKEND!

(if for whatever reason you are in some kind of weird state of mind and care less if your weekend is awesome or not, shoot me a pm, maybe after a few beers I can help cheer you up).

    Quoted from EJS:

I confess you won’t want to miss the day EJS LTG and Little Johnny are at the same table. It will happen eventually.

Confess that will happen, I will eventually make a road trip up there.

Along the way I still want to visit Branson MO again, and go to Silver Dollar City, but still planning fun along the way, so my girlfriend is comfortable and has fun before she has to suffer the pain of us kids being all together at the same time.

Confess she does not rule me, I am not henpecked or anything.

BUT! lately we have enjoyed the drive south very much, and we plan to head south again after football season.

Can we all be at the same table in say Cape Corral FL?

For real though, I have already told her eventually we are doing a road trip that ends up in MN.

She hates long rides, they never bother me, I enjoy doing battle on the interstates for hours as long as traffic is moving 10mph over the limit.

Confess I was glad when that 55mph crap was over, and I could drive faster without much fear of speeding tickets.

And recently on here we were talking about how many times we have posted, well, I want to bring up emojis. That word just sounds about as stupid as that stuff is, and I have not used them much, except when I was really goofing off and being creative on here.

Confess I hate to get a text message and someone puts that crap in the message.

We are around 50, not 5, and if we do not know each other well enough that we have to add some cartoon thing to say we are just joking, then no one really knows us.

Mods usually don’t add as much value as they cost, so you’re always going to lose some money on those when you sell the game with them. Also, try to hang on to the game longer. A few years of pinflation is usually enough to let you to sell it for what you have in it. And of course, the longer you can wait for a buyer, the more likely you’ll get your asking price. These are all things I had to learn through painful experience early on.

What games have you sold and lost money on? Here’s my list of losses over $300, hope this make you feel a little better:

    Gottlieb Buccaneer, -$450
    Bally Vector, -300
    Bally X’s & O’s, -300
    Williams Blackout, -500
    Stern CSI, -900
    Stern Iron Man, -1300
    Williams JM, -500

Fortunately most of those losses were offset by profits, so I’m only down $2k over 23 years of collecting. When I sell my next game, I should finally be “in the black”.

    Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:

I want to get in the jacuzzi

I really want to get a hot tub. We have the perfect spot for one, under our 8’x8’ deck. But my wife is a flat-out “no” for some reason. It didn’t help when I told her she’s getting old, and her tired old body would appreciate the hot tub.

I confess I haven't loss anything on selling a game, because I haven't sold any games yet. I will be selling some I am sure but my current plan is for my family to absorb the bulk of the losses after I am gone
(and I will hopefully by that time have a lot more into them than they are "worth")

No. Your butt makes you look fat. That and the old lady flab on your arms.

Turn it around and start limping or something and tell her your doctor recommended you getting a hot tub to help your knees/back.

    Quoted from ReadyPO:

She thinks the maintenance is too much.

I change the water 1-2 times a year, and add a bromine tablet every few weeks, easy as hell!

    Quoted from ReadyPO:

I am getting to the point where I think it might be a medical necessity though...

After I got mine I did not have to see my chiropractor for years, and when I went back to him he said you got a jacuzzi didn't you, and I said yeah, and he said almost anytime one of his patients gets one he does not see them again for a very long time.

Confess I did not make any of this up.

Confess I am getting old and about to take a nap.

    #4932 2 years ago
    Quoted from EJS:

They’re probably looking for that one lonely shoe or sock you always see laying on the road

I know! Pick me! pick ME!

They are retrieving a lost bucket.
It's easy to get addicted to bucket rescues.

    My ex used to hate it, we'd be going down the highway when i'd quickly pull over and she'd be like;
    'Not another fucking bucket!'

I'd be 'Well it looked like a good one and i don't think it was broken'

'You've got a shed full of buckets!'

'Yeah, but this one looks cool.'

    #4933 2 years ago
    Quoted from swampfire:

Mods usually don’t add as much value as they cost, so you’re always going to lose some money on those when you sell the game with them.

I guess I know this fact well. A color display, anti-glare glass, or tasteful, custom armor are perhaps the only exceptions.

    Quoted from swampfire:

Also, try to hang on to the game longer. A few years of pinflation

That's a tough one. I have just one machine and I tend to be ready to rotate it out after six months or less.

    Quoted from swampfire:

    Gottlieb Buccaneer, -$450
    Bally Vector, -300
    Bally X’s & O’s, -300
    Williams Blackout, -500
    Stern CSI, -900
    Stern Iron Man, -1300
    Williams JM, -500

That's a dispiriting list for sure. I think I can do you one better on a per-machine basis though:
    HS - $300
    BSD - $700
    TWD PRO - $900
    MET PROmium - $2K
    IMDN Premium - $400
    TWD Premium - $800

    Quoted from swampfire:

Fortunately most of those losses were offset by profits, so I’m only down $2k over 23 years of collecting. When I sell my next game, I should finally be “in the black”.

I've never sold a pin for a profit. I've been "collecting" for five years, although I don't know that owning just one pin at a time is truly collecting. Buying/selling pins is frustrating. When I'm the seller, the prospective buyer is sure my game justifies a steep discount. When I'm buying, the prospective seller is sure his game is worth top dollar.

    Thanks for your response.

Internet porn. It's cheap and it's free. Time for a new hobby.
    LTG : )

Hmm. I confess that I don't dare steer my browser into any porn at all. I'm too fearful that my browser history will one day be used to incriminate me somehow. I guess I've watched too many episodes of true crime TV. On shows like Forensic Files, investigators always find loads of lurid, incriminating data on the suspect's personal computer, thanks to the fact that a "deleted" file is not actually deleted. It's simply marked for deletion at some future time when the drive needs more space. I also have a bit of an Orwellian fear of the internet. I feel like there is absolutely no privacy/anonymity there for participants, so I don't browse it casually. My guard is always up. Maybe I'm old/crazy. I don't really know.

    #4935 2 years ago

The only mods i found that hold their value are colordmd or pinwoofer upgrades. These you can offer for $4-500 extra and say if not wanted i'll take it back out before sale. They'll always pay the extra.

Other than that it's like anything. If you get back what it cost you you're doing well. You never get back what you add to it, be it car bike or boat.

Good going Lloyd, you'll have them paying to do your work for you soon.

(woulda put a smily face in to show it's a joke, but Johnny said they're stupid)

'Yeah, but this one looks cool.'

You must have an interesting variety of buckets on offer in Australia. We have only the molded-plastic kind for the most part. I mean, a galvanized metal bucket would be a rare find here - perhaps even "cool." Your buckets may even have nifty pour spouts, a feature long removed from ours.

I had many, many buckets. Used to get them 10 at a time from the Cheescake shop at 8l, some cool big square fetta ones from the supermarket, stainless ones etc. It started cause i needed them to grow mushrooms and became a hoarder style problem.

Hmm. So you're a hoarder and a mushroom grower? Got it! I don't eat mushrooms very often. Those look like oyster mushrooms. I'm sure I'm wrong though. With all due respect, I don't see any cool buckets among that assortment. Where are the vintage buckets from England? My history isn't great. I guess there is no such thing as a Medieval Australian bucket as at that time your continent was home to Aboriginal peoples. No iron then, but perhaps wood - or gourds!

Sort of, i hoarded back then because i grew the shrooms, yes lots of those there are oysters, but the would be Lion's mane, shitake etc among them.

Something doesn't have to be old to be cool. I have a Moto Guzzi. It's coolness and beauty lie in it's functionality, not it's form.

    Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

I guess I know this fact well. A color display, anti-glare glass, or tasteful, custom armor are perhaps the only exceptions.

That's a tough one. I have just one machine and I tend to be ready to rotate it out after six months or less.

That's a dispiriting list for sure. I think I can do you one better on a per-machine basis though:
    HS - $300
    BSD - $700
    TWD PRO - $900
    MET PROmium - $2K
    IMDN Premium - $400
    TWD Premium - $800

I've never sold a pin for a profit. I've been "collecting" for five years, although I don't know that owning just one pin at a time is truly collecting. Buying/selling pins is frustrating. When I'm the seller, the prospective buyer is sure my game justifies a steep discount. When I'm buying, the prospective seller is sure his game is worth top dollar.
    Thanks for your response.

I tend to sell most things cheaper than I purchased it. I don’t really take it as a loss. I try to determine how much I’ve enjoyed the product, how often my family has enjoyed it, how long I’ve owned it, and how much I would have spent on it using at a location or rented it.

I am contemplating getting a virtual pinball

Reason being is that pinball is no longer viable as rich ( or stupid ) people have taken over.

    Bucket of vegie oil, yes.

Buckets are handier than you think, besides carrying all sorts of things, you can turn them upside down and use them for a seat, to capture wildlife, distill water with a solar still, and even make a helmet out of them.
Best helmet is if you make one with a kid and then as soon as he puts it on, test it to make sure it's working. A sound, repeated thumping with a stick or wooden spoon usually gets a response.

Multimorphic P3 Andy, just saying. It's expensive, but as they say with Harleys, only the first one is expensive.

My P3 should be here next week. Swing over and play it, hitch a lift with Glenn Twiddle.
