I confess I don't understand the Kevin James meme that is circulating around the Internets.

    Quoted from punkin:

I've got no fucking idea who those people are, don't care and this is the first i've heard the guys name, but have heard the girls name. i don't know what her contribution to a better society is though or what she does.
    Pretty happy that way.
i don't watch TV or live in a place where i see advertising or billboards.
I don't participate in the whole celebrity idea. I think it's an engineered stupid, pointless distraction from real relationships with people designed to keep people from thinking about what is constructive in the world.
    Like televised sports and gambling.

Punkin, you remind me of that scene in "Crocodile Dundee" (just an Australian coincidence) where his buddy is dropping him off for a walkabout -

Buddy: "I'll be back for you Wednesday"
Crocodile: "Got it. What day is it today?"
    Buddy: "Monday"
Crocodile: "Right. See you then" and walks off.
Buddy says to himself.."Doesn't know, doesn't care. Lucky bastard."

I feel the need to post my first confession.

I just realized that when I play, I use my left index finger for the left flipper, but my right middle finger for the right flipper. I've never thought about it until my son (9 years old) pointed it out to me. Is that weird?

Fortunately, I'm able to drink expertly with either hand, and finger involvement or lack thereof does not seem to be an issue.

Aside: Thank you all for this thread. It's one of the few that I read all the time. Good people here. I even enjoy punkin's lawn bowls recaps. Having been a competitive curler, I dream of playing bowls someday...I'm captivated by the World Indoor Bowls Championships each year (yeah, I'm that weird).

    #12055 9 months ago

Don't wait, a quick google says Windsor Lawn Bowls in Detroit, but i bet you can find nearer.

I said i commiserated and every day for me was Sunday.

Oh I've tried the places listed there. No actual action anywhere near me.
I'm close to getting a nice set of carpet bowls or short mat for my basement. I have plenty of room, but those sets are expensive (but somehow, I'll spend 10k+ on a pin though). Might be more economical for me to just visit your club in Australia.

Yeah Carpet bowls mat's are expensive and the game is not the same as the long game. Bit lame for me.

You would be very welcome to come visit, my area is one of the best climates in Australia, but plenty of Bowling clubs in the Cities too.

Brisbane is only 3.5hrs drive north and has the highlife and biggest fun parks in Australia as well as beaches and sunshine. Brisbane is probably our biggest pinball city too.

    Sydney is 5 hours south.

You have 10,000 pop (we have 6k). Start one........

Heh, 10k pop, but only about 4 people who have ever heard of bowls (wife, kids, and me). I do like the consistency of the indoor game, so carpet or short mat doesn't offend me as much... Especially here where we have some crazy winter weather. I've got 10 acres (no idea how many hectares) and a tractor, so I've considered making a proper bowling green, but I don't think I could pull it off.

I'll get to Australia some day. Virtual visit there tomorrow via tv to watch the AFL final. Go Collingwood!

Indoor works well, our club has two synthetic greens outdoors. There are other clubs around with grass greens i can play on, but the carpet is a good allrounder, and the only real choice for indoors.
It's popular in England, also because of the weather.

    Quoted from mtn-:

We have a pretty good deposit system. If you buy a sixpack of beer you'll pay around 1.5 USD in deposit. So everybody recycles cans, and if you dont want to, just leave them by a public or private garbage disposal unit and someone else will take them.
... which unfortunately doesnt help on the fact that I've probably got beer cans for 800 USD in my basement.. :/

So are you actually telling us that Otto has a collection of over 500 beer cans?

Hope everybody's doin well this week!

Last time I posted here I had just gotten fired. Now, I'm a few weeks into a new job and I'm really liking it so far. It pays less, but the work environment and type of work suits me so much better, and I don't dread going to my job anymore. As another bonus, it's giving me wiring/electrical experience, which could help me maintain any future pins I buy

Had my Monday planned out this morning, pack orders a little late, hit the post office and then the library and the bank to get some more 20c pieces for the coin pusher.

9am i'm into the shower and out when i realize the gym wasn't open at 6 and i hadn't heard anyone in there at all.

Confess i checked the calendar and it's a public holiday.

I confess I willingly spent last night and this morning reading through the key posts of the Deeproot Pinball thread...

Ho-lee Fuck. Still not clear abt some details, but my eyes were starting to unfocus so I'll return eventually if the need for drama motivates me.

One part that really made me laugh out loud was an employee receiving a BOM with links to Amazon listings. Sheesh!

Hard to believe 20 years ago the Goose Pinball Parties were going on.

8 more different ones to dig out.

Those who've been reading this thread for the last couple years may remember my robber Chases Cops story about my drunk mate chasing a detective down in his car and T boning him.

My mate got his license back Friday, he has been 16 months sober and hasn't touched a drop since the incident. Still goes to AA and has a sponsor etc.

I just went into the gym next door where he lifts and presented him with a bag of magic brownies with a sign on it in front of his mates.

Our team were big celebrities at bowls yesti.

Wednesday's are the social, relaxed people who are there to have a couple beers and some sledging fun without the formality of competition bowls.

There is one team of guys my age (early retirement) that are top notch bowlers.
They were boasting week after week (humbly ) about their winning streak that was up to win #18 from last week.

My team was my mate Jeff in his chair and I and our regular skipper was out so we had one of the blokes missus as skip.

The match never got outside of a 3 point margin all the way and in the end it came down to the last end (out of 20) where we won by 1 point.

Best game of bowls i've been involved in and i played the game of my life as lead bowler.
    We got labelled Giant Killers.

I confess I was prob 25 at the time I visited Swiss Chalet for a pickup chicken dinner. As I was waiting for my order I asked another waitress about the nice looking server about my age serving chicken and fries like a goddess. So the waitress spoke to the girl and she came over to me and said: I also work at the CN Tower..drop in some time to see me.

Confess i went to the trouble of tempering the chocolate that goes in to my Stoney Road chocolate bars this morning instead of just saying 'keep them in the fridge, they'll melt.

Seemed no harder than the usual method i use, one extra pot and a bit of measuring with a thermapen.

Should result in a glossier bar with a better snap and non melt in your hand.
