Quoted from swampfire:I probably need to get back on Allopurinol. I wake up every morning with half my fingers nearly locked up and hurting. The they’re fine after a few minutes of moving them. I thought quitting beer would help, but it really didn’t make that much difference.

I take mine every day. My outbreaks are usually the feet and ankles. Had my knees drain several times. Only dealt with my hands a couple times.

You just need to keep them uric acid levels down. Figure out what your triggers are. If I don't drink enough water and get dehydrated I'm 50/50 chance of outbreak even on my meds.

For anyone wondering what it feels like I will share this story. I was at the doctor's my first time. Didn't know what was going on. I'm sitting in the waiting room with my eyes closed. People keep asking if I was okay. Everytime my heart would beat I would whince. Everytime my heart beat it felt like someone was pounding a rail road spike through my foot.

I watched Dopesick on Hulu and recently finish the Netflix ripoff they did about oxycontin. Both times looked at my wife and said I am glad no doctor's pushed it on me. I would have gobbled them up like Hugh Hefner popped viagra.

I've had gout flare-ups for the last 25 years or so (I'm in my 50s), inherited from my dad. I mostly get it in a toe, foot, or my knee, but I've also had it in my elbow, shoulder, wrist, and occasionally a finger. People have different triggers, but mine and my dad's are mostly the same -- celery, legumes/beans, nuts, asparagus, beer, and liver. Celery's in a *lot* of stuff, so we read labels and watch out for stuff at cookouts. If it's something I really want to eat I'll pick out the celery I can see, but most of the time I just avoid it altogether. A beer once in a while is usually fine for us, but there's a cumulative effect and once you push the uric acid too far, you'll have a flareup.
In addition to medication (Indomethacin when I feel it coming on), cherries and 100% cherry juice are your friends - they lower uric acid. Most cherry juices are tart as hell, but you get used to the taste (that's what she said ). They sell dried cherries in the section with raisins if you can't find fresh cherries. You can also get cherry supplements in pill form, *but* a lot of the supplements also have CELERY in them, which they tout as an anti-inflammatory, but I call BS on that.

    Quoted from hassanchop:

    I don't like Deadpool. I think it's a boring game.

I really want to like it too, but have a hard time everytime I play on location. It's fun, but I can't place it. It's always a pro, so maybe that's it. This was going to be my first Spike 2 game, but more and more I'm moving on for two reasons. Resale price and not too excited about it anymore.

Quitting beer is hardly ever the correct answer. Occasionally, drinking less is correct, but other than that....

A good friend's father took his own life today.
No idea what to say or do for my friend.
    I feel awful.

    #11920 10 months ago

Fuk man, sorry to hear that. Nothing u can say. Damn.
Sending my condolences to you and your friend.

    Quoted from RCA1:

A good friend's father took his own life today.

Just listen to him the next time you meet.
Don't add anything or interrupt, just listen.

    #11922 10 months ago
    Quoted from RCA1:

No idea what to say or do for my friend.

Genuinely, I’d ask him. Nobody is prepared for that or deals with it hardy ever. So it’s ok for you not knowing how to proceed. I think asking him what he needs from you is acceptable and shows him that you’re making yourself available as a support system. He will definitely go through all the stages of grief so be ready for his emotional needs to change from moment to moment.

Those closest to us often elude us. What we have to offer isn't needed or wanted.

Be honest. Tell him the truth. You don't know what to do or say. Ask him to let you know.

And let him know, any time day or night. You'll be there for him. Even if it's just to sit with him.

    Confess I hate Microsoft.

Thanks again for telling me about Libre Office long ago, I loved that program.

Now I cannot print anything from there, when I click print, I only get a pop-up from Microsoft wanting to me to start paying them for that feature.

I just downloaded Libre again, hoping it would work, nope, cannot print anything.

Confess I am glad I still have my old computer, and I haven't plugged it into the internet in a few years now, and I can still use it to print. I will never plug that computer into the internet again and take a chance of things I have always used becoming unusable. Glad I took it off the internet when I did.

    Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:

Even back then, when trying to use Libre from desktop, a Word thing would pop up if I tried to print, wanting me to pay money.

But if I went into Libre Office by going into my folders/files, whatever, it would work fine.

The last Windows upgrade messed that up it seems. They talk about wanting to help your computer run better, but really all I think they do is try to make it easier for their pop-ups to appear, trying to charge you money.

Back when Libre Office worked fine to print, anytime I would save anything to desktop, Word was added to it, and said it was not licensed.

Sorry to rant about boring computer stuff, but I confess it just ticks me off how some things used to be included and free, now they do everything they can to try to get more money out of me. Not happening.

I just printed some 8-page leases from my old computer for a rental house, and even my printer printed the fastest that it has in forever.

My advice is if you need to create any invoices, etc., and print them, and you are happy with your computer, take it offline, and get another computer to be online goofing off in places like this.

I've got a small rock stuck in my forehead under the skin from my fall last month. They got most of the gravel out, but missed at least this bit (it was a mess and a minor issue compared to what else they were working on).

It's annoying and painful, but seems to be working it's way out.

Tossing up whether to go find a scalpel blade in the fist aid kit, or just let it pop out.

We had a local perform surgery on his son last night with an angle grinder and while high on meth. The patient didn't make it.

I confess I’m getting tired of the Windows and Microsoft world and made the switch to Mac. Part of that is bitterness with the strict system requirements for Windows 11, which I was able to bypass anyway and install the upgrade from Windows 10. However, the random notice about the machine being unsupported still pops up now and then.

Saw it on the local news here. The kid was 16 and living with his grandfather helping out while the grandma was in rehab. Sounds like the dad had a history or mental and drug problems. It was a shame to see.

I bought a pair of running shoes for the 1st time in 25+ years a few days ago. I’ve always worn steel toe boots/shoes, but the guys at work get away w shoes. Funny thing is, I don’t even run..

I don't run either, but a pair of $200 shoes are a wonderful thing.

I'm a Brooks fan, but my Adrenalin's feel like i'm jet propelled when walking uphill. Good for training on the bags too.

I agree. And a local career criminal in the same state got busted with enough cocaine and fentanyl to put him away for 30 years with 25 mandatory. They didn't prosecute the fentanyl charge which seems to be a recurring theme. The individual got 1 year community control and 2 years probation. He'll be right back at it. Fentanyl kills quick. Cocaine takes a while...

Adidas ultra boosts are my “go to”. Most comfortable things I’ve ever owned. Helps out with knee and hip issues also.

One of my mates has started eating slad all the time. comes to pinny comp and brings a fucking salad.

Everyone else brings beer and sausage.

The concerning thing is that no one is making him eat it.
he's not with his mum, or his missus.. just him and the salad.

Last week i saw there was eggs in it, so an egg salad, but still... red bits, all this green and yellow stuff and all sorts of weeds pulled out of the ground.

    Want salt and pepper mate?

    No, i'm all good.

Can't even be food if it has no salt, it's fodder.
