When I earn an extra ball on Addams Family. Just as the ball on the DMD is about to hit cousin it in the head, and the machine is about to make that "Thwack" noise. I swing an imaginary bat like I am hitting a home run ball out of the park.

Growing up I thought those were the only kind of rags you could use to clean a car, cause that's what Dad used.

When the first ball launches on my F-14 Tomcat, I make little wings out of my hands down by hips and play airplane.
Scotch or no scotch the little wings come out...

That's cool as shit dude. I never even thought of that. I am definitely doing that from now on.

I do bangbacks and deathsaves on my home machines.
I refer to any repeating shots on a game as "ramp chairing it".
I refuse to play a game if it is $.75/play.
Me and a friend have special initials to put up when we get on the board in a split flipper game.
    I'm sure there are more...

When you bring your own bottle in to look at some games something is up.. Sure he lives in an old arcade and requested we "bring liquor" that's not the point. You are offically the Bill Cosby of Pinside I am working with Pinside management to get your name changed to "THE COZ"

As my accomplice I think you earned some of the culpability.

I loathe when people choose EMs in a tournament when they consider it an "equalizer." SFS.

When stuff goes bad on my pinball machines, now that my kid is almost 3 it doesn't get fixed for an embarrassing amount of time. I love to tinker but I usually would rather watch mad max fury road or guardians of the galaxy or frozen for the millionth with my kid than do something by myself.

I would probably rotate machines more if moving them wasn't a headache.

Sometimes, I wonder if I enjoy the hunt more than actually playing them.

I think nib is crazy expensive but part of me wants to downsize to get GOT.

I have the nice car and already made a deal if i could spend more on pins I would take the junker. Bluetooth connecting my phone to the sound system had been so nice that I haven't taken her up on the offer.

I am finally getting around to a Monte Carlo project I've had for a year. I unfolded it, put it on its legs and plugged it in, ready to dig into it. Nothing but the back box light came on. I turned it off and went for pizza.
Pinside is a daily escape from work.
I like talking about pinball more than playing pinball
I mutter to myself when searching CL that "I bought that machine for $100 10 years ago, these prices are ridiculous."
I think I'm getting drawn to EM gun games.
None of my machines have the tilt bob or ball in them.
Most of the high scores were glass off
All my machines must have coin boxes and mechs, but they're all on free play.
    I just recently discovered Evaporust
I cannot find a decently priced Checkpoint anywhere close by me

I read Australian pinsiders' posts in an Australian accent (in my head). As a result, they all sound like the guy in Champion Pub.

    #718 8 years ago

I have to keep the keys to my games well out of reach when I'm playing.
The temptation to open the door and use the coin door ball saver is just too great, especially when you feel that you didn't deserve to lose the ball i.e. If a ball jumps over a flipper.

Nothing to be ashamed of! Lots of EM games are awesome. I feel that having EMs is a sign of a well-rounded collection.

    Swampfire,

Err, ummm, I don't believe any of those are on your Wishlist. Woops!

Fill us in on how it went breaking the news to her of your good fortune to be able to acquire 3 more awesome pinball machines.

Have you told her something along the lines of: you plan to stop at 30 machines, that 30 is just about the perfect number of machines to have in a collection, and that you are glad you are not addicted to pinball like some other guys you know. No-sir-re Bob!

It went fine - I just went through the math, and explained how selling CSI and NASCAR paid for them (with $100 left over). Of course I didn't mention that Shadow will be getting a ColorDMD, or that Skateball needed new plastics, or that I'm on the list for a new Medusa playfield.

So a two day pinball tournament was coming up in my town. I was desperate to attend but knew my wife would disapprove, and even if I ended up going, it would be one of those things she would mention until I went to my grave (eg "what about that time you spent two days in a bar playing pinball when I looked after the kids...")
So I told her I wanted to do a creative writing course, which would go over two days on the weekend. This was an approved activity in her mind, and she actually encouraged me to do it.
I set off with my writing pad and pens on Saturday morning, making my way to the bar where the tournament was held. The format was that the final 16 would play in the finals the next day. It was a really fun day, and I did better than I thought and finished 4th so I would be back the next day for the finals. When I got home, she asked me how the course went and wanted to see some of my work. I panicked. I hadn't thought of this. I fobbed her off and said I'd show her after Sunday. That Saturday night, after she had gone to bed, I actually spent three hours writing short stories in my pad. One was even pinball related. Utter craziness! But I was pumped to be in the finals the next day and just did what I had to do to pull this thing off.
The finals started later the next day, early in the afternoon. I told her the course started later and would be finishing about 6pm, and left home after lunch, notepad in hand. Again, I played really well in the tournament, and made it to the last 8. There was a problem though. They were running way behind schedule, and the projected finish was potentially going to something like 8pm. It was 6.30pm when I started my last match. My mind was in a tumult. If I won, I would be in the final four with a chance to win the tournament - but how was I to explain what I was doing to my wife? Already I was 30 minutes past the time I had said I would finish by. I could of course tank, and be home safely in time - but I had never been in a tournament before and here I was in the finals. I decided that whatever happened, I could't really lose. If I got eliminated, the pressure would be off and I would get home in time. If I went through to the final four...well I would just have to think something up then. We played four games, and I played with a loose, flailing style, which was not altogether successful, though by the fourth game I was a mathematical chance to make it through. Through an extraordinary combination of events, me top scoring, and the leader getting a terrible score, it came down the the last player to decide whether I would go forward or not. He just had to beat another player by a few million, and not beat me. I had a very high score, so I was confident in the latter. He was on his final ball only a hundred thousand from the other player when...he tilted! I was eliminated and headed back home, saying I was a little late as we had a drink after the writing course. I proudly showed my wife my work, and secretly relished the fantastic two days I had had.
Hope to do it again next year...just need to think of another 'approved' hobby!

Good to know your marriage is built on a foundation of lies and lack of support. Should turn out great in the end.

Yeah...3 pinsiders gave that thumbs up. No wonder there are so many divorced guys in this hobby. I'd rather have my wife be upset with the truth than deal with her lawyer because of the lies.

I got back in the hobby November of last year with a BF.
    Then bought a beat JP.
Sold JP to help buy a PM.
Traded BF for a straight off Route RBION.
    Bought a beat SST.
    Bought a NBAFB.
Traded SST for a project Diner.
    Traded NBAFB for Flintstones.
    Traded Flintstones for BR.
    Traded RBION for NGG.
Trying to get rid of Diner for something else.

For those keeping score that leaves me with PM, NGG, BR, and Diner.

All because I look at my collection and feel it doesn't measure up to the one I had before I left the hobby.
    LOTR
    STTNG
    JP
and was to pickup a RFM with SWE1 kit the day I called it quits.

Yeah, like Pinside has a much higher divorce rate than average..Give me a break. And if your marriage is so fragile that your wife would divorce you over that then you have bigger issues that need to be addressed.

    #747 8 years ago

My wife lets me keep a pinball machine in the living room until we finish the garage or basement... I also have a pinball machine at work and at my lodge. I don't plan on finishing the basement or garage anytime soon.
