    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-17-so-much-canned-cheese-so-little-time/

This is part 2 of 3 of our coverage from Pinball Expo 2014. This episode is a recording of the panel discussion we participated in entitled “Covering the World of Pinball, One Podcast at a Time”, held on Saturday October 18th. This was a moderated discussion led by Expo organizer David Fix. Brent and I had the honor of sitting in with an ensemble cast consisting of Preston and Patrick from Gameroom Junkies, Nate from Coast 2 Coast Pinball, Rob Craig from the Silverball Podcast and Charlie, KT, Squirrel, Bug and Bryan Kelly from Spooky Pinball.

The (Bug) Terminator shows up, everyone buys a can of cheese and we all discuss what it’s like to produce our respective shows and involve our families in the podcasts. We revisit some of our favorite episodes and talk about the overall coverage of the world of Pinball – all while having as much fun as possible in the process!

    November 2014

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-19-the-village-and-the-idiot/

We’re back in the studio to recap all things related to Pinball Expo 2014 where we run through all the announcements, give our thoughts on everything we saw and discuss the most notable parts of the show. We then discuss what we’ve been working on in-between travels over the past month and Brent recaps his progress on the Burgertime Project (the winner in the “Put Brent to work” poll) while Whitney finally (*finally*) gets one of the games he’s been after for years (a grail?!?!?) – Zoo Keeper!

We are fortunate this month, as we have two interviews – our first guest is Andrew Heighway of Heighway Pinball and we talk about all things related to Full Throttle and get some info on the upcoming Alien Pinball. Gerry Stellenberg of Multimorphic Pinball sits down with Brent for our second interview and discusses the P3 pinball platform while we get some scoop on Lexi Lightspeed and Cosmic Cart Racing!

We announce the winner of our first listener contest, play some voicemail, respond to some feedback and talk a bit about another upcoming Chicago trip where we go back to Stern for a factory tour!

All this and more and Brent finally gives us the answer to the question we never asked – purple. My answer was 42, so we had to come up with a compromise. I don’t think Brent ever found his dancing shoes…

Here’s how the episode breaks down!

Intro Discussion Pinball Expo 2014 re-cap
(96:00 – 1 hour, 36 minutes) – Interview with Andrew Heighway of Heighway Pinball
(114:50 – 1 hour, 54 minutes) – Interview with Gerry Stellenberg of Multimorphic
    (193:30 – 3 hours, 13 minutes) – Updates & What we’ve been working on
    (228:22 – 3 hours, 48 minutes) – Feedback, voicemails, show wrap-up and announcements

As always, remember to check our Facebook Page – https://facebook.com/brokentoken for LOTS of content in-between the episodes, as Brent and I are keep a lively presence on the podcast page and we enjoy lots of great discussion on trending topics. Follow us on Twitter – http://twitter.com/brokentoken– as well and if you want to talk to us directly, give us a shout on the podcast voicemail line – 470-2CALLBT (470-222-5528)

If you enjoy what you hear, then please consider leaving us a rating on our iTunes page and our Stitcher Radio page. We are also available on the Throwback Network so please consider checking out all the other retro goodness podcasts available there, as well!

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-e...-intervention/

    Merry Christmas everyone!

This episode sees us amazing even ourselves on the sheer amount of content we can pack into a single month’s episode. In short, this month’s show should easily outlast even the longest of ‘Griswold-esque’ family get-togethers and equal about 2.7 stocking stuffers!

Brent and I both have been hard at work on our respective projects this month - I’m working on my ZooKeeper and I almost score a Pac-Man while Brent closes the deal and gets a Cinematronics Rip-Off all the while logging some time working on the Burgertime.

With arcades being in major focus this month, we dive into a wide assortment of topics, ranging from beginning an ongoing dialog on tube swaps and Deep-Dive into PCB corrosion repair. We also cover a lot of ground with the latest in reproduction parts, projects and talk about what’s new in the hobby.

With so much going on the arcade side, we’d be remiss to leave out our favorite ‘second love’ of Pinball, and we catch up on what’s happening by discussing several breaking news items unfolding at Stern, Heighway and Dutch Pinball. We also discuss our recent trip to Chicago where we were able to take a tour of the Stern Pinball factory and spend some time at Logan Arcade.

We wrap up the year by featuring two fantastic interviews – the first with Aaron Reid (CraftyMech on KLOV) and discuss our new favorite tool – the Monitor Test Pattern Generator – where we get a behind-the-scenes look into the development, engineering, testing and future of this excellent product. In the second interview, we sit down with Jack Benson, software engineer at Stern. Jack gives us some tremendous insight into what it’s like to work at Stern, develop code for some of our favorite new games and work alongside some of the legends in the industry today.

Here’s how the episode breaks down:

Updates and what we’ve had going on
(126:00 – 2 hours, 6 minutes) – Technical & Restoration Discussion / Deep Dive on PCB Corrosion Repair
(202:45 – 3 hours, 22 minutes) – Interview with Aaron Reid, CraftyMech TPG
    (298:30 – 4 hours, 58 minutes) – Stern Pinball Factory Tour
(350:15 – 5 hours, 50 minutes) – Interview with Jack Benson, Software Engineer @ Stern
    (376:30 – 6 hours, 17 minutes) – News, Feedback, voicemails, show wrap-up and announcements

We close out 2014 with a heck of an episode and we thank each and every one of our listeners for investing in us this year and we look forward to rolling out some exciting updates to the show and the site for 2015!

Thanks for listening and GAME ON – And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    http://www.brokentoken.com/interviews/episode-21-an-evening-with-john-trudeau/

We’re kicking off the new year in a massive way by sitting in with legendary Pinball designer, John Trudeau, and spending an evening discussing Stern’s newest title – Wrestlemania!

John gives us a candid and unplugged discussion around the back-story for the title while we talk game development, rule sets and all the new technology in this title. Stern has packed this game to the gills with several legit new features and we talk through them all… from a new sound system to the innovative playfield mechanics and the brand-new modular Linux-based controller system alongside the introduction of LCD technology (in the LE) to the Stern line-up.

No kayfabe here gang… this is Stern’s A-game and we talk this baby from the swerve to the work and everything in-between.

So grab your folding chair, slam the turnbuckle and get ready for some great conversation on the “State of Stern” with John Trudeau!

We hope you enjoy this encore presentation of the podcast – flying arm-bar not included, of course!

    January 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-22-i-love-them-but-they-dont-love-me-back/

We’re ringing in 2015 with a bit of flair by way of some updates to the podcast, and we trust that everyone is as excited as we are for some of the changes we’re making for the New Year!

With the Holidays now squarely behind us, we take some time to revisit the holidays a bit and cover what we’ve been up to for the past month – which turned into far, far more than either of us had originally thought. I (Whitney) have been hammering on the ZooKeeper resto project and cabbaging as many tube swap candidates that I can find. Brent, on the other hand has been BUSY.. so much so that it took both of by surprise once we worked our way through the list. I didn’t know if we might need to give him a dedicated episode or what…

Speaking of, Brent goes on the road for our first interview – New Years Eve @ The Place, Retro Arcade and not only talks with owner Cary Chaney and world-record holder Estel Goffinet (and laments why arcade games just don’t seem to like him very much) as well as some of the most important (and often under-appreciated) people in the hobby – Arcade Wives!

In an interview double-header, we sit down with the guys from the Louisville Arcade Expo and cover what to expect from this years’ show as well as catch up on general happenings in the expo circuit and discuss the special guests (David Crane and more!) that will be making an appearance in Louisville in March 2015.

We also cover a literal TON of restoration and reproduction topics this month… it’s been really active in that area and there’s a lot of new products and mods available that we run the gamut on. Oh, be sure to check out the Kiddierama Cartoon Theater that Brent has been working on. It’s definitely a ‘one of a kind” project and is a neat mashup of old and new tech.

A special thanks and shout-out to our new “partner in crime” – Hayseed Dixie – for permission for us to use their “MAXIMUM ROCKGRASS!!” music in the show!

We’re super excited to offer up this great blend of classic rock and “Kentucky Proud” (….that would be bluegrass music) and we’re looking forward to further revamping/improving the audio of the show. This is our first cut at what we know will be a much better sounding podcast over the next several months. We’d LOVE to hear your feedback and suggestions as well!

Here’s how the episode breaks down:
Segment 1 – Intro, updates and what we’ve had going on
    Segment 2 – Technical and Restoration Discussion (1: 43:40 – 103 minutes, 40 seconds)
Segment 3 – New Years Eve @ The Place, Retro Arcade – Cary Chaney & Estel Goffinet (2:07:15 – 127 minutes, 15 seconds)
    Segment 4 – New Years Eve @ The Place, Retro Arcade – Kim Chaney & Erica Goffinet (2: 16:25 – 136 minutes, 25 seconds)
    Segment 5 – Interview with ArcadeRX / Louisville Arcade Expo (2: 24:10 – 144 minutes, 10 seconds)
    Segment 6 – News, Feedback and special announcements (3:29:15 – 209 minutes, 15 seconds)
    Outtakes @ 3:55:00

As always, remember to check our Facebook page - https://facebook.com/brokentoken for LOTS of content in-between the episodes, as Brent and I are keep a lively presence on the podcast page and we enjoy lots of great discussion on trending topics.

    February 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-23-my-bucket-runneth-empty/

*whew*… we just barely made it in under the “short month” deadline for this episode.. weather here in KY has been nothing short of “tough” the past several weeks and getting together to record has been a bit of a challenge due to that. BUT – we found a decent day break in the -10 temperatures and took advantage of it and had a blast putting together this month’s show.

We run through our game room/hobby updates, which are “interesting” this month, to say the least. I (Whitney) have been on the road for work quite a bit, so getting any time to log against my ZooKeeper has been tough. Not letting that keep me down, I did spend a good amount this month on “laundry list” items like building out a “road warrior” mobile game-fixing toolbox and what you should have in it, acquiring some more tube-swap tubes and was able to score an entire evening at The Place, Retro Arcade all to myself! Brent continues the work on the Kiddierama cartoon theater and asks himself why in the world he even wanted to work on a Space Invaders to begin with.

We’ve got our official broadcast scheduled ironed out for the Louisville Arcade Expo now (below) and should have our booth in full effect at the show, so please stop by if you are attending, as we’ll get you mic’d up and on the show!

    Friday, March 6th @ 7:00 PM EST
    Saturday, March 7th @ 7:00 PM EST

We’re also going to feature a new special “late night” broadcast on Saturday night March 7th @ 10:30 PM EST called the “BT Happy Hour” where we’re going to get as many show-attending listeners on the air as possible and talk arcades and go totally unplugged – it should be a lot of fun!

All of our live broadcasts will be streamed on our MixLR channel – http://www.mixlr.com/brokentoken and will be released as podcast episodes as well. Listen live and join in the chat!

This month, we have the privilege of speaking with Michael Johnson, who designed the awesome “Goonies Pinball” re-theme machine. We’ve had this interview in the tank for a few months, but have had a hard time getting it squeezed in to other shows, but this month we put it front-and-center and we hope you’ll find the discussion around the theme, the process and the inspiration interesting.

Mix in some laughs, some great arcade restoration and new Kickstarter project discussions and the fact that poor Brent can’t carry his own water and you’ve got episode #23 of the show!

Here’s how the episode breaks down:

Segment 1 – Intro, updates and what we’ve had going on
Segment 2 – Interview with Michael Johnson, Goonies Pinball (1:06:30 – 66 minutes, 30 seconds)
Segment 3 – Technical and Restoration Discussion, News and Feedback (2:03:20 – 123 minutes, 20 seconds)
    Outtakes @ 3:07

As always, remember to check our Facebook page - https://facebook.com/brokentoken for LOTS of content in-between the episodes, as Brent and I are keep a lively presence on the podcast page and we enjoy lots of great discussion on trending topics.

Follow us on Twitter @BrokenToken - https://twitter.com/brokentoken and if you want to talk to us directly, give us a shout on the podcast voicemail line – 470-2CALLBT (470-222-5528)

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-27-its-happy-hour-and-then-some/

This is the third of a whopping five special episodes that encompass our live coverage of the 2015 Louisville Arcade Expo!

This show’s format is what I’d like to think of as “unplugged” as we camped out in a hotel room with the mics and portable recorders and 12+ people joined in on the fun where some beers were consumed, gaming was the topic and the Expo was the backdrop. It was a great time and is something we’d definitely like to do more of.

You can always refer back to the list below for links to the shows in the podcast feed for all of our LAX2015 coverage.

Up next in the release cycle is the highly-anticipated David Crane seminar audio/video feeds and the special 1 interview as well!

Grab your favorite barley-based beverage (or in my case - two or three), find a game to work on while you listen and join in on the fun! My only problem is that I was too busy talking and forgot to do a late check-in on Untappd… dangit.

    May 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-28the-internal-magic-of-the-atari-2600/

This is the fourth episode in our coverage of the 2015 Louisville Arcade Expo and we are proud to bring you the audio (and video – check that out below) from the David Crane seminar entitled “The Internal Magic of the Atari 2600”.

During the presentation, we are treated to a history lesson like no other. David delves into some of the history of Activision and how he and the other founding members left Atari to go into startup mode and build what would become one of the most influential companies in video gaming history. David covers many details behind development of some of the landmark titles Activision released for the platform (like Pitfall, Pitfall II, Kaboom, Freeway, Laser Blast, Dragster and many others) and it becomes apparent that there is FAR more story than could ever hope to fit into an hours’ discussion.

The title of the seminar is well-named in that David then takes the conversation into a very technical direction and talks about the process for developing games for the Atari 2600 and speaks to many of the lessons learned and even shows some of the internal coding mechanisms that were afforded by the Atari 2600 hardware to produce such engaging games with so little hardware resources.

We at the Brokentoken Podcast, in partnership with the Louisville Arcade Expo, are proud to bring you this fantastic seminar presentation that goes where only someone like David Crane can go – into the “magic”.

If you’d like to watch the entire seminar from start-to-finish (and we highly recommend that, as some of the topics really come alive when you can see the presentation) then check out the video below and enjoy.

    http://www.brokentoken.com/interviews/episode-29-1to1-with-david-crane/

This is the fifth and final episode in our coverage of the 2015 Louisville Arcade Expo and we’re excited to be bringing you this very special interview with David Crane.

It’s hard to quantify just how excited I (Whitney) was to be able to sit down with David and get his time – uninterrupted – for an hour to ask him the questions that I’ve been wanting to ask for the past 30 years. His insight is incredible and his answers matter-of-fact and immediately genuine. It’s hard – if not impossible – to cram an entire career’s worth of questions into this interview, but we covered as much ground as possible. The interview starts with the cursory background on Activision and the founding of the company and then moves into game development, the personalities involved in creating the “rainbow” titles we all know and love, as well as the fall of the video game industry in the early/mid 80’s and how Activision responded as well as what happened with the people after the fact. There’s a fair amount of technical and artwork discussion as well – we tried to squeeze as much in as we could!

We hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoy bringing it to you!

    June 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-30not-really-but-kinda-yes/

It’s our big (ok, not really *that* big) 30th episode and we’re in the studio catching up from the last couple of months being on the road! We recap our travels, some listener meet-ups and show shenanigans, even as we prepare for being at the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo later this month! If you happen to be at the show, be sure to flag Brent and I down as we'd love to chat.

We recap our updates and talk about projects, acquisitions, money found and money lost and how we each tend to cost each other cash month in and month out! Brent dives knee-deep into Space Invaders as he clears his way out for the return to the BurgerTime restore while Whitney is all over the map on tools, desoldering setups, ROM burners and restoration parts – and takes a good pile of grief over making absolutely no progress on Project ZK (Zoo Keeper).

To top it all off, we even delve into the 6502 processor origins by learning more about Mr. Chuck Peddle! With so much schizophrenia (but in a good way) it’s a wonder the show didn’t end before it began!

    July 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-31-a-trifecta-of-fail/

We *finally* get back in our (studio) groove this month and stretch our legs a bit now that we’ve had the chance to recover from our recent Atlanta trip to the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo. We recount our experiences at the expo and keep a watch over the next month as we’ll be working on publishing content from that show, as well.

For being on the road as much as we have, we still managed to cover off on quite a few updates. Brent works on the Burgertime (remember that, right?!?) and also logs some time against a multi game for friend and burns (just kidding, but not really) a Space Invaders that just seems to love him a little too much.

Whitney has some (albeit thin) updates on Project ZK (for everyone), and has been going on what feels like a bona-fide mission on Powdercoating and both lament the many struggles (they are real, I tell you) of T-molding removal and installation on Rally-X and Gaplus.

We talk some additional tube-swap topics, have an editorial on the whole ‘Skit-B’/Predator pinball drama and as with every month, Whitney “Spends Brent’s Money” where we talk lots of new parts and reproductions available this month.

We cover off on some great listener mail and give a “special” shout-out to Charlie and the gang at Spooky Pinball (listen to the end of the show… I’m about ready to retire Brent straight up, hence the show title).

It’s a 4-hour extravaganza (or something of the short… I needed a #20DollarWord for this month, and it fit) this month full of fun, laughs and great information.

    Enjoy the show!

    August 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-32-if-i-knew-it-i-forgot-it/

Are you ready for another 4.5 hours of “arcade goodness”? Not really?!?! Ready or not, episode 32 is on the airwaves helping us to wrap up August 2015 in the grandest of style.

We take to the microphones where Brent talks some pinball and discusses some updates on his High Speed and begins the process of moving the Big Guns on down the line. Whitney does nothing but talk about what he wishes he had done, but does get some play time at the Seattle Pinball Museum and meets up with some fellow listeners during his travels.

We also take this month’s interview segment and mix it up a bit – instead of talking about games, parts or collecting, we take the chance to give back a bit by delving into philanthropy in gaming and hear about those who use the hobby as a way to improve the lives of others. We discuss the efforts of such great people as David Paul (Life Under Glass) and Joe Newhart (PinballStar Amusements) as well as hear from Dan Spolar (Project Pinball), Pat Young (Hero for the Heart) and Joshua Ahearn (Extra Life) as part of our coverage at the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo 2015.

Last but not least, we cover off on the usual updates, listener mail and even devote way more time than necessary to topics like the crappy WG4500, repair bench monitors, new reproduction parts out this month and meeting Hulk Hogan.

    Yep – THE HULKSTER!

    September 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-33who-didnt-see-that-one-coming/

Fall is in the air and with that comes the upcoming Holidays, family time and (hopefully) some good garage and playing time, as well. Speaking of playing, it’s an interesting point to consider – if you could have any arcade games you wanted, what would make the cut on your top-10 list? Brent and I answer that question this month and dive into the titles that win out over all others. It’s a fun and lively discussion and it’s a segment we’ve been meaning to do for months and we’re happy to slot it in for this episode.

Personally – I was glad to see that Brent loves Donkey Kong so much… I knew he’d eventually come around.

Once Brent came down off his Donkey Kong high, we were able to get back to business and discuss some game room updates, new reproduction parts for this month, respond to a TON of feedback (thank you!!), do a mini-review of the movie Pixels and we learn a little about Brent’s multi-game cabinet… great story and one that will certainly hit home for anyone who shares the hobby with their family.

So grab your favorite Oktoberfest and warm up with a good blankie while episode #33 gives you more insight into our psyche than you probably ever wanted!

    Happy Halloween everyone!

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-34-12-its-the-magic-number/

As we bring October 2015 to a close, it’s time to start looking towards the upcoming holidays, time with family and friends and hopefully some quality game restoration time! We’re definitely looking forward to the same and to help kick off ‘our favorite time of the year’ we have a new episode to help get you through some of that oh-so-quiet garage time applying bondo and huffing magic eraser suds. Smile

One thing that never ceases to amaze is just how much you can accomplish, even on a short schedule. Both Brent and I were on the road most of the month for work and vacation, yet we still managed to cover off on a lot of topics:

    * - Brent goes to Disney and gives us the low-down on Disney Quest, he makes some great progress on the Burgertime and gives the Big Guns the boot.
    * - Whitney gets another Satan’s Hollow, wishes he had worked on the Zoo Keeper, laments starting on the Rally-X and almost drops an R-Type to its death.

Add to that we cover off on everything you’d ever want to know about rebuilding a G07, respond to a boat-load of feedback, Brent finally understands why magic marker isn’t OEM on the Burgertime and talk about why you don’t take Whitney fishing.

Here’s how the show timings break down:
    * 00:00 - Gameroom, Project and Personal updates
    * 01:38 – What we listen to & Raw Thrills Pac-Man clock review
    * 02:19 – G07 Arcade Monitor Deep Dive
    * 03:10 – Let’s Spend Brent’s Money!

    November 2015

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-35-i-color-matched-the-gi/

As we roll out of Thanksgiving and officially into the Christmas holiday season, it’s a good time of the year to relax, unwind and catch up on happenings in the hobby, in our lives and talk about what we’re thankful for this year.

As long and varied as that list actually is (and it takes us the entire episode to get through it) we manage to roll though some personal updates, Holiday plans, spending Brent’s money and our recent foray into LED lights for both under-cabinet and playfield modifications to our pinball machines. Brent covers off on his Adam’s Family and Whitney discusses LED’ing out his AC/DC Pro amongst Thanksgiving turkey cooking tips and the usual side-bar conversations that make sense by the end of the episode!

It’s an all-access pass to what we thought would originally be a “quick one-hour show” (HAHAHA!!! – yeah…right!) so catch that gobbler and get ready for Cyber Monday BT-style!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

Here’s how the show timings break down:

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-36merry-christmas-theres-a-906-stuck-in-your-ball-trough/

It wouldn’t be proper if we didn’t take reverence for this time of year and reflect a bit on 2015 and look forwards to the new year.

This month we fire up the jingle bells, turn up the Christmas lounge music and talk through some personal updates and then get into the Holiday mood and cover off on year-in-review, our goals for next year and talk about those in the hobby who deliver Christmas all year long. We even check-list our ‘give-back’ to keep ourselves honest so we can keep an eye towards the thought of service back to the hobby, as well.

Although we tried our best to keep the show within our self-imposed “1 hour Christmas special” you can quickly see that all hope was lost and 3 hours later we put a bow on it and called it eggnog.

This episode is guaranteed to make any lump of coal just a little more fun, so stocking-stuffers beware!

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Still shaking off that eggnog induced funk from the Holidays? Yeah, so are we…slowly but surely the fog is lifting and 2016 is looking pretty good thus far…

The good thing about this past Holiday break is the sheer amount of “fun” we had over the past several weeks. We were fortunate to host quite a few activities and we’ve got some great guests lined up for this month’s show.

First up, Victor and Tori Marland (from the Tenpence Arcade podcast) paid us a visit over the break. They were vacationing here in the US and we finally got all the stars lined up for them to come over to Whitney’s house for an evening. We deep-fried turkey, talked shop and had a “grand old time”. We gave them each a microphone and asked them to do their best “American accents” and it was great. You can hear a recap of their trip in episode 52.5 – ‘Merica Trip

Next up, we feature Jeremy and Matt Fleitz from the Louisville Arcade Expo as they give us a run-down on this years’ show and what to expect (and what hasn’t been decided on yet) . Billy Mitchell, Walter Day, Joel West and Steve Ritchie are the headline guests (so far) and along with the PAPA circuit stop, tons of arcade, pinball and console games, this year promises to be great fun.

We then clear off on the monthly updates, spend a TON of Brent’s money, talk about the newly-announced Spiderman Vault Edition from Stern (way more pics are available on their Facebook Page) and even pull our own version of Siskel & Ebert by discussing our thoughts on Star Wars – The Force Awakens. The talk is FULL of spoilers, so we put it at the end of the episode, right after the outtakes – that way you don’t have to skip around to find it (or avoid it)!

I think the guys would be proud...

    February 2016

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-38words-that-brent-cant-say/

This episode is all about shaking off the cold of winter and getting into the swing of the restoration and expo season. With the upcoming Louisville Arcade Expo and the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo just a few short weeks (LAX) and months (SFGE) out, we are looking forward to plenty of live broadcasts, panels and getting to meet up with both old and new friends. Between the pomp and circumstance related to preparation for those shows, episode #38 busts onto the scene!

It’s always an eye opener when we sit down and cover off one what we’ve been working on over the past month… you think you might not be getting a lot accomplished, but in effect, there’s quite a good bit done:

Brent works on the Zaxxon, a Cue Ball Wizard, and a Golden Tee ‘99. Whitney (finally) works on the Zookeeper and begins a ‘bench rig’ build-out project that will be detailed here on the site and on Facebook as well. Between all of that, we both go on two independent ‘mini-raids’ and score some nice loot that we reveal to each other for the first time here on the show.

This month we return with a ‘Deep Dive’ segment on the Gottlieb/Premier System 3 pinball boards and talk about MPU repair for those specific games.

We also spend a boatload of Brent’s money, respond to a TON of listener feedback and ponder our next ‘out of band’ movie review. Lots of good feedback on the Star Wars discussion, so we’re toying with the idea of doing it again. What movie should we pick apart next?

The words ‘Back in the saddle’ has a lot of connotations, but we all know what it means in the land of BT – EPIC show at EPIC normal length!

We roll out of April and into May returning to the studio and catching up on all things arcade and pinball since our livestream shows at the 2016 Louisville Arcade Expo. We sit down and catch up on hobby and project progress over the past six weeks, talk tech, catch up on quite a bit of pinball news and in an unprecedented display of shrewdness, showmanship and podcasting sound effects, Brent spends both his – and Whitney’s – money this month!

We’ll just drop this right here, and let you guys and gals figure the rest of it out….

    ghostbuster-logo_(resized).jpg

We also have the opportunity to hear from the ‘King of Flow’ himself – Mr. Steve Ritchie in our first ‘seminar segments’ from Louisville Arcade Expo. Steve talks about pinball design, the state of the industry and the economy, Game of Thrones and more. I apologize up front a bit for the audio – it required a good amount of post-processing but it came out really well all things considered.

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-42south-east-bound-down/

    May 2016

Well, here we are at the end of May and the beginning of Summer for 2016.. time flies and this month is no exception.

In addition to the normal updates, feedback and catching up since the last episode, we find ourselves covering a few “different” topics this month – auctions and game hauling. Yeah – you read that right folks- gavels and trailers. We set down to record and had a bit of a ‘loose’ agenda (due to our prep-time for the upcoming 2016 Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo) and figured we’d cover off on a few topics that we’ve been wanting to discuss for several months, but have had a hard time slotting them into some of the past shows.

During the course of the discussion, we uncover the fact that Whitney is an auctioneer and that Brent has a closet full of NES consoles – and somewhere those two facts actually intercept and make sense…only on our show. Not to be outdone by our own self-induced bravado, we hear from two guys that REALLY have something to talk about – Billy Mitchell and Walter Day – as they host one of the seminars from the 2016 Louisville Arcade Expo entitled “The Perfect Pac-Man” in which Billy and Walter discuss the techniques used to score a perfect Pac-Man game and fields audience questions, as well.

Call it “Ratchet Strap Redux” or “More than I ever cared about a dolly” or “loaded up and trucking (to Atlanta)” and you’ve got an offbeat episode 42 of the show!

Here’s how the show timings break down:

    0:00 – Intro & Updates
    1:03 – Gavels & Trailers and Stuff
    2:46 – Billy Mitchell & Walter Day – The Perfect Pac-Man

    http://www.brokentoken.com/podcast-episodes/episode-43-next-exit-silicone-valley/

    June 2016

We are back from the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo and in front of the mics to recap our thoughts and all the high (many) and low (one…stupid tire) points along the way. Needless to say, it was a great weekend full of fun and excitement. We reconnected with listeners and friends, got some good swag (beer), interviewed some very interesting people, put on a couple of sessions and met lots of great folks to boot.

This month we feature one of the first audio segments from SFGE and are proud to feature the “From Tron to Curveball: Bill Adams’ Life in Classic Gaming” session where we have the privilege of interviewing Bill Adams and talk about everything from developing Tron to naming Satan’s Hollow to the legend of “OScope”… it’s great insight and a must-listen for some fantastic history on some beloved Bally/Midway games.

If you aren’t familiar with Bill Adams, here’s a quick excerpt from his bio:

    ==========================
After studying computer science at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Bill Adams would go on to develop some of the most influential games during the “Golden Age” of the arcade. As an employee of Bally/Midway, Mr. Adams held the positions of programmer, designer, manager, and director on a number of notable games. Highlights during his time at Bally/Midway include working on Kickman,Satan’s Hollow, Spy Hunter, and as the designer for the now legendary Tron.

    July 2016

Summer is in full swing and we’ve got more podcasting goodness for your summer restoration work (or commutes…however you call it, we’re good with it!)

We discuss project updates from all over the place, talk about Red Tents (GRAILER), ROM burning, scanning artwork, what we ordered from Online Components, troubleshooting System 11 pinball machines, logic probes and last, but not least, go all SlapStic on spending Brent’s money – and that’s after he picked up the bill when we had dinner with listener David Paul!

If you can stomach all the topic dyslexia, then we have a special treat in store for you this month: Daniel DeBusschere hosts one of the panels from the 2016 Southern Fried Gameroom Expo entitled “Painting the Dots – Pinball’s Color DMD Revolution” and talks with Mica Critchfield and Mark Jarzewiek as they discuss all things ColorDMD – from how displays are colored to some history of the project and the company. It’s great info that you won’t hear anywhere else. On top of that, they premier color dots running on Family Guy for the first time, so you get a world-premier to boot!

If you want to catch the video from the session, then look no further as we’ve got it posted on our YouTube channel as well:

We also have plenty of feedback to discuss as well, so buckle up and get ready and remember…we are the way we are because we sit in the sun FAR too long…
