Quoted from iceman44:

I don't want to bring up bad karma but Chris was in deep with Jpop.
For his sake, I hope it works out.
I agree with Rommy, if it ever comes out, I'm in. But it's one thing to trot around prototypes that seem to have gone backwards in a year to producing hundreds of pinball machines.
They can't even get the second round of Bop 2.0 out and Pinballlife is doing the assembly.
Phil said Barry was pulling funds from TBL to get Bop done and pay himself.
Wasted time and monthly overhead are killers.

Presumably if Pinballlife are doing assembly of BOP 2.0, they will be done soon and that is my understanding also

Think DP have really nailed the display. Best of the current displays. Can you imagine how much better GB would have been with this screen/movie cuts etc??????!

Pinball manufacturing is a black hole as far as cash needed. Didn't JJP get a $9 million cash injection a while back? The sums are incredible really.

Quoted from cooked71:

Here's some "alternate facts":
They got the first few games out and began building the next batch. A board problem (and maybe some other problems) and subsequent re-design was identified that was not foreseen when the original costing was agreed on. ARA said they need an extra €1000 to build the games to these new specs. Dutch disagreed and ARA refused to release the 2nd run of games until the new price was agreed on.
So in Dutch's defense, it could have been a board issue originally but it has since morphed into something else. ARA are clearly trying to adjust the agreement terms to account for the new specs, but possibly also using the board change as an excuse to revise their original quote which was too cheap.
This will most likely be just another bump in the road for Dutch. They'll pay ARA the extra for the games that are already produced (or win legal action) and move on to find another manufacturer. Or they'll just give up, refund anyone who has paid up and the few TBL's already delivered will become the result of yet another pinball legend.
I could be completely wrong.

Logic suggests refunds just aren't possible as that money is used to build games and many games are built and stuck with ARA.

Quoted from Pinhead1982:

I put this to Jaap
There are apparently 40 games packed ready that are by all accounts being "held ransom".
DP are refusing to pay ARA and have stopped paying them to have money ready for legal actions.
I'm sorry, but I did not intend for my money to pay for legal action.
I have asked why not: settle the account for the assembled games, or the 300 and then take this to court as what appears to be blackmail. They have the contract that should hopefully win in court. Then move to a different manufacturer for game 2! Makes FAR more financial sense.
I would rather pay the extra, get my game and then get reimbursed when/if DP win court case.. at least I will have a game rather than nothing at all!!

Wow, at $9000 a game that is approx $360000 retail being held.

Clearly DP have been economical with the truth.

But, does any company tell customers the truth if things are going pear shaped? More like move to damage limitation mode.

Boy, over the last few years we have seen this big time in the pinball world.

Quoted from dannylite:

They aren't crooks, plain and simply Mr. Bally. They've delivered 51 pins, plain and simple. This isn't a jpop scrap together some games to not get sued. It's another philgate. A tree in the road if you will. They delivered 51 pins that are of high quality, fully functioning and very fun to play. If it wasn't for ARA holding the 40 or so games they would have shipped them already. Going to Universal is ridiculous, totally undudelike and like Rensh said it wont get you your game in the end. There is no way DP can refund early achievers at this point, so as hard and frustrating as it is just hang in there. They've been on this quest for over 5 years now and have probably dealt with thousands of problems that nobody even knew about. For Christ Sake let them work it out. I'm sure we will know by TPF.

Most pinball manufacturers start off with good intentions but don't realize how much cash is needed to get to full production and beyond.

But I have always been pretty disappointed with the way these guys communicate and sold my BOP 2.0 without a single regret ages ago. Whatever happened to the code update that was supposedly done months ago?

Anyway hope Texas brings good news.

Thought I remembered Blade Runner being mentioned?

Quoted from rubberducks:

I doubt you heard that.
Also, even if true, do you really think that would be enough to ameliorate their position if it's as dire as you seem to think? It really wouldn't be.
I do know the reason why Mayuh's excellent 2.0 decals had to be stopped being distributed is because they wanted to sell Barry's design for 2.0 decals themselves (which he has on his own machine) ... that idea may have morphed into making full BoPR 2.0s. So there will have been some foreshadowing, if that's what it is.

Seems like he did hear that!

I think they have been to too many cafes in Amsterdam and eaten all the hash cookies

#4069 7 years ago

Quite unbelievable.

Clearly money is gone.

There are far too many companies now trying to get a slice of the pinball pie.

I hope people can get refunded and/or get the 50 games released.

I will never ever pay in advance for a pinball machine as market is saturated.

BOP 2.0 isn't even that great a game - just so unbelievably hard. $12500 for an update with suspect art is just insanity.

Quoted from Richthofen:

I believe it to be unlikely. If there was evidence that ARA was trying to do a screw-job to Dutch, then Dutch would be better off getting the lawyers. If ARA is in breach of contract or specific performance requirements, then Dutch could win damages from ARA enough to have the games made elsewhere. They might even be liable for punitive damages (I am not a Dutch lawyer so...) in which case Dutch could gain MORE than they paid back to ARA.
Again, same thing applies... if I were Barry / Jaap here, and my company's existence were on the line, and I needed a lawyer to save the company, I'd take out the loan and hire the lawyer. Most of these lawyers work for damages anyways.
It's just incredibly charitable to Dutch Pinball to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

I think I agree.

If DP thought they had a water tight case I think they would have been more vocal at TPF.

Quoted from Khabbi:

Glad the update is "positive", but in reality there is no reason ARA can't just release the finished games right now if the meeting is truly about "producing TBL's" and being positive. One just requires a "here ya go" for games sitting there, the other is ramping back up the entire production process which is a whole other extreme.
A good faith, positive meeting to me would be releasing the finished games to show things are moving forward.
Anyone else feel this way?

The meeting as always is about money. How much is owed and when will it be paid? Just guessing but cash is always the sticking point.

#4662 6 years ago

The last few years have taught me to disregard words unless they are backed up by actions. There has been so much pinball BS since the pre-order stuff started.

Go by actions, actions, actions, not words, words, words.

#4709 6 years ago
Quoted from Pinhead1982:

Maybe DP wants to sort out a contract - water tight. Then can go to the 140 customers with Deposit only and then start up the production again.
Think it is the 2nd machines sales that will help DP make a small profit and pay ARA.
Starting a business usually means no profit for the first few years

That is the definition of a pyramid scheme

Quoted from Manimal:

It's either that, or they need to find another investor willing to buy in for less than 51%

And why would an investor do that and take the risk of not have a controlling interest?

Quoted from TigerLaw:

Not correct. The guys that succeed in ripping people off for thousands (or millions) exude confidence and poise in the face of (literally) impossible odds...it's part of their base line skill set. The con in con stands for confidence...it's how the con works.
I'm not saying DP is a con necessarily, but just because they are acting poised and confident has zero relevance in reading their true intentions or deciphering their plan (if they have one).

Exactly. Think of the greatest con of all..... Madoff.

I don't know DP's position but in my opinion they haven't exactly been straight with the truth, or even middle truth.

Jaap: New orders will have to be filled first to fund previous preorders build.

So, is Bernie Madoff involved?
