I saw some discussion on the starry lit apron

Made a small video. Very hard to capture on video. Used iPhone 13. Real life is better.

Think this video shows it’s really a lot more as just an apron with some leds under it. It’s tied into to the code and makes a real wow-factor.

Just uploaded it so give YouTube some time to improve the picture

I have one and it's definitely worth the upgrade. Beautiful in person as Rensh says.

Game is so good on 1.01. Tightened up some of the excessive scoring that was out there on 1.0.

Excited to see how 1.10 ties the room together even more!

Had a fun one tonight. Earned 4 extra balls. Sadly was 2 rug modes short of wizard

Bowling score of 188

Excited for the pinmonk fans. This game lasted 30+ minutes and the flips got a bit wheezy. Walter was a struggle.

The Tibetan Breeze:ZEN cooling kits are shipping now. I've got about half of the advance ZEN orders already in the mail. Want to get them all off by Monday, since that's the cutoff for pre-Christmas Priority Mail.

Once you have these installed, that should be the end of your soggy flipper woes, unless you have some other hidden mechanical problem like coil stop, coil sleeve, etc.

Quoted from jyeakley:

I think at this point the playlist is pretty solid. Played tons of games and the songs just fit so nicely. I may look at the rug mode songs next and see if there are any worth replacing. Any thoughts from the group on replacement songs?

Great idea! I find that going from the lyric songs to the built in rug modes are kind of a bummer as the lyric songs are so good to rock to. The game does spend a fair amount of time in rug modes so I think it’d be important to pick some good ones

Yep mine are in the mail. I have no doubt it’ll fix them up a bunch. It fixed BKSOR about 80-90% and that game is way worse since the right flipper is used even way more than TBL, and those games can go 45 minutes if you play well.

Just got back from vacation. I will work on this some more this week. It is close.

Yeah, I've sold quite a few Tibetan Breeze kits to BK:SoR owners too, and I know the flipper fade is pretty notorious, but it's one of only three machines I haven't had in-house to temp test on yet. (Aerosmith and Munsters are the other two, which I've had, but they were before I was temp testing everything). It's on my to-do list.

OK Dude’s here are some pics of my recent TBL unboxing.. Crazy side note, I ordered TBL and CCR LE approximately 1.5 years ago and both showed up three days apart from each other. Unfortunately in the last handful of weeks some unforeseen medical issues/expenses came up (story of my life) and I could only afford to keep one game and the choice was made to keep TBL and sell CCR LE so here are some unboxing photos and a few thoughts on this recently produced game.

The game - deposit placed September 9th 2021 - game received December 8th 2022 (serial #in the high 700 range) arrived in perfect condition. There was a very slight hole in the lower corner of the box but I was relieved to see there was no damage to the game.

Having been an EA and had one of the very first games with the earliest code I can say that 1.01 code is a game changer, It is excellent!

By the way I highly recommend the jyeakley custom sound package, it is fantastic!

I was happy to see that DP finally stopped ratcheting the strap that goes around the back box and holds it to the cabinet so tight that it could and did sometimes dent the siderails and actually indent the cardboard shim into the decals. This game had Adequate padding between the head and the rails and the straps were properly tight but not over tightened... perfect!

Legs- before I tighten leg bolts down I run a piece of paper between the cabinet and the leg to make sure there is clearance and on two of the legs I noticed that I could not slide paper through the gap. I did not say anything to Rens about this yet, for now as you can see in the pics I took a set of extra leg protectors that I had (they are the plastic earlier stern type protectors) and doubled them up to give me enough clearance to install the legs. So a word of caution to anyone who is about to receive a game or has recently received a game make sure you can slide a piece of paper between your cabinet and the leg before you tighten your leg bolts down.

I was very pleased to see that DP finally corrected the lock down bar issue, in years past the games always came with a Poorly fitting lock bar that was sloppy and basically just too wide for the game. The new lock down bar has a beautiful chrome/polish? finish on it and fits perfectly... nice job DP!

The only small issue I had right off the bat was that I was unable to qualify to go bowling, after a bit of looking around I found that the switch was defective behind the bowling alley. I got a hold of Rens and he immediately sent me out a new switch, it should be here any day and I will be back online.

I have played at least four different TBL and this is the best playing one that I have played, the new heavy duty standup targets make a huge difference! the old style standups used to make me cringe when I would hit them with a hard direct shot! they would bend over in time, the new ones are sturdy and will take direct shots no problem. I also love how the car on the upper playfield works it’s smooth and quiet as is the rug mechanism.

Overall the build quality is an A+ nice job to the team at DP!

Last note until Pinsider RTR gets his EA#141 there can truly be no joy in TBL for me! I only hope that the money that all the non EA’s keep sending to DP get these EA games built and that EA #141 gets to its rightful owner, when that day comes white Russians are on me Dudes! But if that never happens RTR, we may have to set up a game share program where we swap this game back-and-forth once a year
:-/

Dammit, now I am going to have to order another HD. Quit making so many good improvements! I didn’t even care about the rug modes being instrumental until you said you were going to change it.

LOL. If you don’t mind ordering a cheap cable off Amazon and are decent with a computer, I have some steps to update the same drive with the latest disk images as I make updates. Fairly simple. I am not looking to make any money off of these updates. Just want the community to enjoy some pretty cool modifications to the music that (I believe) enhance the end user experience!

That said, I know it can be intimidating, so still happy to image and ship drives as well!

PM me and I can give you the details if you are interested.

#4613 1 year ago

Might take you up on that, I also don’t mind sending some $$ your way for the effort you put in to the improvements. It’s such a good addition to the already outstanding pin.

Oh yes !
I unboxed this days my Valhalla and the guys from AP should order a TBL to see how a cabinet *CAN* look and define the word "buildquality"
DP is outstanding in quality !

Got The Dude Abides this morn and it was super cool! Completed it and rolled the game over with one ball left but I was out of steam and drained quick hah. There was a crazy cool outro effect to the wizard mode that was an awesome twist((; What a great ride DP thanks for this experience!

Huh? Being GENEROUS, that apron will sell 500 units. That's low run.
PSVR sold ~5 million units and PSVR2 will sell the same or more.
~5,000,000 is DEFINITELY a mass market item.
So yeah, low run vs mass market. Economies of scale are real. My point stands.
But you can't really bring in Stern's topper nonsense because their price points are straight up profiteering.

I thought you were saying mass market for the apron. So low run apron with a big market which isn’t true.

Awesome. Let me know how the instructions are. This is a new kit and while it's similar to other kits there are some definite differences in the process. I'm not unwilling to add illustrations and increase the panel count of the steps in the instructions if enough people are getting hung up in an area. The GnR one was originally a 6 panel instruction set (6 panels each, front and back), but I eventually expanded that to 8 panel per side to add an additional clarifying illustration and more detailed information about how to get the screen off those super-strong JJP magnets that hold it in place so you can swing it out. Interested to see how these ones for Lebowski work out off the bat.

It just has a custom splitter that plugs into the ATX power supply in the head and splits off a 12v lead (with a fuse and blocking diode for safety) for the fan power.

Ok here’s my write-up for the PinMonk fan kit install. I have also installed his kit for my BKSOR Prem since rhag upper right flipper causes mega over-use of the right coil and the coils are wheezy after 30-45 minutes. For TBL, as soon as I started beta testing 0.89, the game times went from 5-7 minutes to 20-30 minutes due to the add-a-balls. I then started to notice coil fade and Walter became tough and other shots just lost some zap.

In comparison to the older style kit with the 3D printed housing, these are very nice. I had to melt and carve and cut away a lot of the BKSOR 3D printed fan housings to fit and not hit stuff in that machine. For TBL, this Tibetan Breeze style kit fit perfectly with no issues.

Sound-wise, I’ll admit that I barely hear the BKSOR fans (there’s three of them in there), but you can hear them if you listen purposefully. For this TBL kit with the new fan setup, there is no way you hear anything with the cabinet and coin door closed up. You can hear them if you open the coin door and put your head a foot away. Super quiet.

Anyway, on to the install. As usual for me, nothing just installs easily and, I took my time, but it took me a couple hours.

One important disclosure. I have 1) cpr9999 ’s harness installed on my game, so you will see that additional wiring in my images 2) I have a trough light so you will see that wire in some images.

First, maybe some TBL machines are different, but the only problem I noted with the instructions are in step 1, where I believe the clip referenced to piggy-back onto is incorrect. It mentioned the right clip, but on my machine it’s actually the left one.

Next three picture are the flipper mounting plates we need to remove. I found it way easier to work after unplugging the yellow coil power clips. Pay attention that the coil return springs are mounted to the farther hole. You need to know that to remember where to put the spring on the fan mounts, since there are the same options.

BD82910B-6AE8-4281-9DD0-CCFC1933AE19 (resized).jpegBD82910B-6AE8-4281-9DD0-CCFC1933AE19 (resized).jpeg

Here was my one hour time suck. The LAST of the flipper plate mount screws was cross threaded by the factory…and cross threaded hard. My hood Phillips bits were chewing the soft metal of the screw head and making things worse. It was so cross threaded that the plate could wobble around even through the screw was “tightened” all the way. It wasn’t actually gripping down flush. I ended up cutting a cleaner cross pattern into the screw head and then soaking it in WD40 (one drop on one chip of a board ). I couldn’t apply heat like I normally would since the coil paper and wood and boards are all really close. Finally, standing on a stool so I could apply hard pressure right back against it while fighting it, it budged. I was one step away from using a removal bit to rip a trashed screw out, and that either ruins it more or works.

Anyway, that was not fun.
73403724-C084-48C4-BF0D-CC2F6ADDDFEF (resized).jpeg73403724-C084-48C4-BF0D-CC2F6ADDDFEF (resized).jpeg36FFE9F6-F42B-4C0E-899D-377467E64003 (resized).jpeg36FFE9F6-F42B-4C0E-899D-377467E64003 (resized).jpeg

Installing the fan mounts is fairly straight forward. The only issue is, due to the bracket, you can’t really go straight at the screws to install them. You’re sort of going at a 30° angle, so be careful not to mash up the heads of the screws. Use a good proper sized sharp bit (P2).

After installing and putting the springs back on, everything seems good. The right bracket is pretty tight with the flipper coil harness wire. Nothing really to do about that but I set mine where I think all the wires will be fine. They do touch though the bracket, and nothing can be done about that.

20D2BC4C-86AB-4269-9874-15A7EB674DD1 (resized).jpeg20D2BC4C-86AB-4269-9874-15A7EB674DD1 (resized).jpeg

The rest is just ticking and zip tying wires. I was a bit confused about the 3’ extension in the kit (not a big deal but the instructions mention 4’, while it’s 3’). I think the whole kit would work fine without the extension. I had it installed first without it and it was all done and I was left staring at the extra wire extension. Just in case it helped with lifting or moving the playfield later, I popped that in-line.

I found what I feel is the best way to route and secure and tuck the wires. You might feel differently. A bit different than the instructions, but I recommend starting right at the flipper fan mount wires and securing there and working back to the backbox.

I also highly recommend doing it right and tucking the wire near the backbox into the factory gray plastic loom so you don’t have a random wire dangling around.

Excited to get a long game going this evening and see if I notice improvement. I’m sure I will, sense the kit makes night and day difference in my BKSOR.

Oh and before it gets mentioned, yes I clipped the ends of the gold zip ties. I left them that way for the pics so it’s easier to see.

PinMonk 's kits are all class, and this one seems to be class++. Love the attention to detail and care that go into these things.

Victor's Godzilla kit was the first mod I installed after being away from the hobby for a couple decades, and couldn't have asked for a better experience or product.

Super exclusive ad from the Pinside Marketplace!

Agree. Professionally packaged and has everything you would need even some nice wire snips to trim the zip ties!

[quoted image]

What a great writeup. The Left/Right on the ATX power supply plug is weird. I wonder if all three are the same and Dutch just uses them in any order? Something to note in the instructions.

The 3'/4' extension (it was 4', but I shortened it to 3' for this run and forgot to update it) is to make sure there's enough wire to comfortably get from the head down into the cab and still have enough wire to move with the PF. Just a little extra insurance.

The wires from the coil touching the fan aren't an issue. It's just the area of the exposed coil lugs you don't want touching and yours look fine. Dutch doesn't put plastic sleeves over the lugs like some other manufacturers do. I may eventually include some if it becomes a problem.

That totally sucks about the cross-threaded screw in your last plate! You definitely need to have the right #2 Phillips to screw these back in due to the angle. This is another area I'm watching and if it becomes too hard for some people, I'll change to providing button cap hex screws and a ball-end hex key that makes it much easier to put the screws in from an angle. I'll have to see what people's experience is as to whether that's necessary going forward.

Thanks again for the detailed writeup and pics!

EDIT: One thing that isn't in the instructions yet is those two rectangular holes on the angled part of the bracket base are for an optional zip tie point to clean up wiring, if desired.

Well. I did it. Dropped a deposite yesterday. You TBL owners pushed me to the finish line with all your enthusiasm for this pin. James Bond was built cheap IMO and I wasn't sure Scooby Doo would have had a good adult mode to make it fun for me. The licensor seems to uptight. TBL for the win.

So the question is what do I do now for the next 10-12 months of waiting? F IT. let's go bowling.

I’ve been working on perfecting my White Russian recipe while I wait. Lol

What are owners thoughts on the game. I have one on order but I have never played it. Is there a game you would say that is similar? Unfortunately, I dont see the game listed at any local arcades near me.

Haa. It's a must to have a White Russian to celebrate on that special arrival day.

In my humble opinion, it’s the best pin I’ve ever owned. Nothing really compares to a dialed in TBL.

I rated it higher than any other pin I've owned, so I have to agree.

This. Best pin I have played since 1.0 code dropped.

I got my machine shortly after v1.0 got pushed and it was amazing. Going back to v0.5x, it was astonishing how big the leap was to v1.0. The level of polish, refinement, integration, and cohesive flow is completely off the charts. The best "mellow flow" pinball experience I've ever had...perfect harmony with the theme.

I have it next to an AC/DC (aggressive rock), Godzilla (destruction), Twilight Zone (cerebral), and STTNG (full 24th century immersion). Hard to pick a best, but at the end of the day when I want to get a couple games in to chill out, it is always TBL

Also installed PinMonk TBL kit yesterday. As always super high quality product and packaging.

My only minor issue was a super tight fit wl the right flipper wiring. My cable has almost no extra slack; thought I might have to solder an “extension cable” to the coil for a moment, but was able to get it through and re-seated once the fan was in place.

Luckily no threaded screws.

Played for over an hour last night; glorious to have full flipper power once in the groove. One car mode away from Dude Abides.

Congrats PinMonk on another awesome offering/service to the pin community (and: the new metal brackets are top notch. Bravo).

Did you get the 2 or 3 fan kit?

I only have 2 flipper ZEN kits for Big Lebowski because in testing the 3rd flipper didn't have heat problems. If people MUST have active cooling on the 3rd flipper, though, I will be offering single bracket add-ons for all the ZEN kits. I just didn't feel people needed to spend money on a 3 flipper kit for Lebowski when the 3rd flipper isn't really getting hot.

Here's the temp test results (the uncooled 3rd flipper is on there, it's just down with the cooled left/right flipper!):

Awesome. Glad to finally get this kit and a solution for JJP machines out. They've needed it for a long time. Legends of Valhalla is next.

How long did this install take you? I can do them in my sleep now, but always interested in another data point of someone doing one for the first time.

Yeah, I really dig them. One of the reasons for the delay of the ZEN release from Nov into Dec was I sent the first batch of brackets back because there was too much stainless steel grain showing. I wanted them to be mirror-like (why I include the microfiber cloth to clean fingerprints off them after install). It was worth the wait.

Also, it's not in the instructions yet, but those two rectangular cutouts below the fan area are for a zip-tie if you want to pull in the wiring from the fan and clean up the look.

OK - here is a video showing NS, Rug modes, and i increased the volume a couple notches on the main MB.

Holy shit - the opera music from the movie in the scene where the dude reads the ransom note to hit the targets is truly EPIC. I mean, I know this sounds insane, but if you figured out a way to dub the dudes words over the voice actor, Jesus.

so what cable do I need to buy to reflash my ssd that was sent? This is truly incredible, man

PinMonk I installed mine the other day, straight forward, maybe a bit challenging tightening up the screws. I have to say the new brackets are beautiful, actually I’m a bit sad they are buried on the underside of the playfield, they would fit right in with the chrome in the rest of the pin. Always pleased with your products, they reflect the extra effort you put forth.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the screws are only a bit challenging because of the angle and that the stock screws are phillips head. That's why in the instructions I say dedicated phillips #2 and not the ones that have reversible tips where the shaft is too thick to get in there at the correct angle and still have grip.

I'm keeping an eye on install difficulty and if too many people have issues with tightening the stock screws, I have some button cap hex head screws with a ball-end hex key that can be tightened from up to 35 degrees off angle that I'll change over to. The idea was to retain as much of the stock hardware as possible but if that creates a pain point with the screws, I'll just change that part out.
