Same thing happen to me. Is this what you are getting in your display ?

Quoted from Dkjimbo:

Having an issue with this install. It installed the code no problem and got me back to the screen to select the version. I selected 1.00 and the machine rebooted and is now stuck in a loop where it shows a black screen with the ubuntu desktop text in the upper left, the wifi symbol in the upper right for a second then it shows the loading screen tumbleweed graphic for a split second and then back to the black screen over and over and over.
I turned the machine off and on, took out the USB drive and still the same thing.
How do i get this out of the boot loop??

Nope, i followed the instructions on the post above yours linked to the manual and now it just stalls out at the black screen with ubuntu desktop in the corner and nothing else and doesnt do anything. i can get back into the command line but it doesnt seem to do anything to type that command:

echo 0.57 > /home/dp/tbl/version

by the way, it looks like there are spaces as i typed it when reading out of the manual...i dont know computer programming, are the spaces required when typing commands?

Als worth noting, when i hit "alt/F2" it takes me to a more graphical interface with icons for history below and a more clean looking command line. when i run the command above here, it doesnt seem to do anyhting.

im dead in the water on the blank ubuntu desktop screen now...

Spaces should be there.

Question, was 057 present on your TBL? IF it isnt it will not boot from there. As mentioned in the manual, 057 was just an example. Last official version was 059. So, question is, which version(s) are present on your TBL? If not deleted almost all of them have 051 or 052 present

#4104 11 months ago

making progress...

i followed the instructions on my machine that are on page 240 in the manual and was able to get it to go back to version 0.56. I just deleted 1.00 in the menu and am now going to try to install again.

I am working on a revised manual to reflect rel 100.

Attached you will find my work in progress on the rules. I consider it 95%+ finished of not 99% (manuals are never finished...). When finished it will go to a DTP person who will make it look nice but text is the same.

Hopefully will help you to better understand the new rules already, even if it isnt fully styled

yup, i think this is where i was hung up. i did not have .057 - i had .056 and a ton of older versions. i just deleted everything other than .56 and .51 and am now going through the install again on 1.00

I've been a pinball enthusiast for over a decade, and have cycled through countless machines at my location through the years. After 5 full hours of play on TBL yesterday, it's my opinion that this code update is single-handedly the greatest update in pinball history. The game is forever transformed into the best-integrated machine of all time and it is unlikely to be surpassed. The action is non-stop, shots are found everywhere, points are found everywhere, and if you're good enough with the new rules you can blow up the game like never before.

-- The new callouts keeps the player engaged and there's no guesswork on where you need to go
-- The hidden jackpots are fun and creative
-- The added characters give the game new life and more smiles (Knox Harrington's laugh.... lol)
-- The bowling ball perks are creative and allows for variation of strategy in every game
-- The car and rug modes are no longer excruciating
-- The extra movie clips keep the game fresh instead of repetitive
-- The shot multipliers add gameplay strategy for high scores
-- There's more variation in the bowling alley shots which keep it fun
-- There are so many movie scenes now. It's a joy to constantly look up at the screen, and to even be able to. The game pauses long enough at those intervals to allow the user to enjoy those moments. Not enough games do that
-- The bonus actually has value (someone got 8 million on their first try last night)
-- The new sounds and new music adds to the audio variation
-- The Mystery awards are fun and not repetitive like last time

I have this game on location at The Pinball Co-op (pay to enter, play as much as you want). Anyway, this game had a line of people playing it all night long. Six hours of constant play in total, and nobody got tired of it. It was like a whole new game. The rules have enough depth to be constantly challenging and entertaining for pinball veterans, while at the same time not being too confusing for pinball noobies. It's literally the perfect balance for everyone. It's like a more-complex and incredibly packed Bally/Williams game. This update alone immediately vaults the value of this machine up another grand or two. Why are people paying more for a Toy Story?

In my opinion: It's the best layout, the best theme-integration, and best ruleset in pinball history.

Bravo, Dutch Pinball. You have a masterpiece.

unfortunately, same issue.

install seeims to be successful and then when selecting 1.00 the reboot goes into the endless loop. i just put it back to 0.56 again...not sure what to try next?

could it be the usb stick? the usb input on the board i am using? i am going to try again now with a different USB stick.

EDIT: Still doesnt work with a different USB stick. same issues. goes into the boot loop. any thoughts?

#4109 11 months ago

I tried something else.

I had 0.56 on my machine to begin with. i decided to go ahead and try to load up 0.59 first. that worked with no issues.

Then when i went to install 1.00 i noticed the install process on screen was different (3 steps - copying, unzipping, installing) vs 2 steps and alot slower (about 5 minutes vs 10+ minutes) when trying to load to 1.00 from 0.56.

IT WORKED.

i would suggest anyone having problems and not already on 0.59 to upgrade to that version first.

Deleted every update except last which is .55 I'm guessing 1.0 full update but just checking if you can update from .55?

Great review! Basically everything I experience, just used brevity in my prior comments. The game, in totality, is now simply one of the best out there, periord...code was huge!!! Absolutely nothing on this machine feels " cheap"...B/W on steroids...subtle brilliance in the code...such a game!

To see a company stick it out with the ORIGINAL, realizing the true vision, deserves huge props. Very grateful to have this one, and the relationship built with their amazing team!!

Was going to download 1.0 on a MacBook Pro. Was asked for an e-mail and password. That feels new. Anyone else have this?

Dan

#4115 11 months ago

Due to the experience of Dkjimbo I decided to be safe and adjust the update to require 0.58 or 0.59 to install. These versions have the faster update method, so hopefully this prevents the more stubborn update issues like Dkjimbo encountered.

#4116 11 months ago

Programmer Koen has changed the update process as there were people reporting issues when updating from an old version.

Now you need to have 058 or 059 installed first. From 058 upwards the update process was changed making it much faster. With previous updates this wasn’t needed but now we think, due to to the large size of 100 update, it is.

Update page is adjusted.

Thanks Koen. Now it is working. So, bad idea to go from .54 to 1.0 ?

And thanks for all the hard work Koen!!

#4119 11 months ago

So happy to hear about the code. Trying to rejoin the club of anyone is interested. Put my order in a few weeks ago as well so stylist I’m on the list. When I had the game originally, the code was a little too shallow although it didn’t need a lot more. Not looking for JJP pirates. This looks to be a great addition.

New code is fantastic. Everyone else can keep Godzilla. I think TBL is the all time game No. 1.

Now that the code is done, DP can move on to game 2. Put me on the list....

Rensh, how do you cancel character multiball when the ball goes in the saucer and you want to collect more ? Thought had to try to avoid in order to collect more before starting?

Hit the launch button. You have to be collecting over the line or something else at the same time to cancel.

You'll see a launch button cancel animation in the lower right of the screen for a timed amount if it's available.

How do you check/change the date/time. Can't find it anywhere in the menu

At the moment you can do it in the BIOS or the OS. Of course we want to have this possibility in the service menu, but there was a user privilege issue which delayed this feature till after 1.00.

Is there a menu option to eject the 5 balls from the trough prior to lifting the PF, or is it a manual process? I couldn’t find it, but then again, I may have overlooked it.

I’m having the same issue as dkjimbo, I’m on the constant loop and when I hit alt f2, it takes me to an enter command screen but that is also on a loop, so it’s constantly flashing similar to the tumble weed loading screen. When I enter the echo command nothing happens, the screen just goes blank again after I hit enter and then back to the same loop with the tumble weed. How do I stop it from constantly looping?

I had that same issue.

Follow the instructions on page 240 - control/alt/f1 to get to the command line that breaks the loop. Do the echo command from they line then power cycle to reboot to your previous code. Then update to 0.59 and then update to 1.00

#4136 11 months ago

Thanks, working on that now, main issue now is I don’t know which code I had on there, but hopefully through process of elimination I will get the right one

As an early achiever still a ways down the list they better start upping their preorder machine ratio before thinking about announcing another machine. Awesome to hear the new code is great and DP can get some love for it, but it’s looking like it is going to be a decade since my order before I’ll see mine if I’m lucky. They have some things to make right before hopping to something new.

Quoted from jyeakley:

Once 1.0 code is released, I would be happy to clone my drive with music pre-configured (as long as you have license rights of course ).
Right now I have a rotation of 21 songs. Let me know if you have other song suggestions.
==========
Hotel California
==========
1. Hotel California
2. Free Bird
3. Bad Moon Rising
4. The Joker
5. Sympathy for the Devil
6. Baba O' Riley
7. John the Revelator
=========
Oye Como Va
=========
1. Man in Me
2. The Gambler
3. Oye Como Va
4. Fly Like an Eagle
5. Livin' on a prayer
6. Ring of Fire
7. The House of the Rising Sun
===============
Run through the Jungle
===============
1. Run through the Jungle
2. Fortunate Son
3. Sweet Emotion
4. Don't Stop Believing
5. Pinball Wizard
6. More than a feeling
7. Hurricane

Starting to get a feel for a list of people that might want this since the 1.0 code is out now. Basically would be a clone of my disk that would have the 1.0 code and the music above in place. Every time you restart the machine, it switches between the 7 songs randomly in each of the 3 categories I have listed. You need to have rights to the music

Need to price it out, but should be cheap (cost of drive, packaging). Really only looking to ship US for now.

It seems like it would help folks out that both want a backup and some good music in place.

PM me if interested.

It’s not in that part of the manual.

I am working on a Complete manual and this is in the non rule section of the manual. That part hasn’t changed a lot by the way. Testmenu is roughly the same.

Expect to wrap it up this week and sent it to dtp person.

You can also see this in action in the first minute of the videos i posted earlier.

I will copy this player profile part into the rules manual and post it later today. After all it ain’t sjabbos so am allowed to work

I played some on my stream yesterday

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1625024560

A couple comments:
1) the code update is awesome. New rules, new clips, new callouts, overall a lot more fun.

2) I find myself trying to collect Walter's ball first which stops the time on Mark it Zero. Even after you complete the mode, it continues to give you 100k more than the previous value each additional time you make the shot. This can turn into huge scores later in the game that make this shot worth more than about anything else. This might need to be nerfed a bit.

3) Ran into one fatal bug. I got a ball stuck then removed the glass to free it. After putting the ball back in I was holding the glass in with my hand until I got to a bowling mode and opened the coin door to put the lock bar back on. Because I opened the door it cut the power so there was no ball on the bowling alley. It let me play it virtually but after that it would never leave the mode or do a ball search. It resolved after power cycling the but I lost a good game.

4) I think it would be cool if sometimes the mystery award occasionally showed the exact clip from the movie and gave you nothing. Maybe it could do this when you put it in the scoop when it isn't lit.

My current go to strategy too. I've actually reset the Mark It Zero completion count to 5 again as I was completing this mode almost too easily since the code update.

Thanks for streaming the latest version Ben! It's nice to be able to sit back and observe all the new game features while someone else plays.

Hey, I watched a chunk of your stream today!

2. There seems to be a bug where Mark It Zero stays lit when you have the wizard goal (and maybe the Walter bowling ball perk), like you had yesterday. You should be required to spell ZERO each time but in this case it isnt. The bug has been reported and I'll fix it for 1.01. Also I'll check if the scoring shouldn't ramp up that hard even after fixing that bug.

3. Yeah that's a tricky one. I suspect there will be more bugs like this if you open the coin door while something is happening. You could have tried going into Coil Test and pulsed the bowlingReturn one (and maybe the bowlingRelease since you had already pressed launch?), that might have kickstarted the game back up. But anyway, the code should become more robust no doubt.

4. Keep collecting those level 1 mystery awards and you might be surprised

After ten plays on the new code made it to the Dude Abides and completed it. (Well I think I completed it). I hit all the character shots and started mutliball.

What I love most about the code update is the integration of the upper playfield more especially during character multiballs.

With 201 games played on my TBL its been trouble free so far. Well done Dutch Pinball I can't wait to see what's next.

Can confirm that one of the mystery rewards gave me nothing but a giant laugh Lolol. Well done dp. If anything the scene should run a bit longer lol

I do like the idea of some level 1 rewards doing more hilarious cutscenes that didn’t make the game itself through regular play!!
