Quoted from cpr9999:

I just noticed this - missing a couple of screws or was this a change? See yellow arrows.
If someone can check - much appreciated.[quoted image]

Checked on some pictures I already made and mine has even less screws. The one on the top right corner has zero with me. Now this is a part of the playfield where the wood is thinner if I am not mistaking so this makes screwing always more dangerous. So this is perhaps reason why less screws as originally planned??

Anyway, the only thing which happens here is a ball drop so few screws only needed I guess

Quoted from Reznnate:

Specifically, I'd just like the experience built-out a bit more with less repetition, more side-characters, specific character modes, a few mini wizard modes and the final wizard mode. As-is, the game is amazing and the current code is fun, easy to understand, and well designed. But the game would really benefit from 'more' stuff and depth.

I agree. I would like to see first a build out of more mini modes, expansion of nihilist mode etc. Prior to making a final wizzard mode which I will never see anyway as I am not a pinball god.

Quoted from cpr9999:

That is a question for rensh

I have no idea.

However, biggest reason for 0.52 was the implementing of the light show for the EA apron.

I only know of one bug fix in 0.52 eg that with 0.51 you sometimes find that every jackpot is a super jackpot which is not supposed to happen.

So getting 0.52 is not bringing much of you don’t have the EA apron. EA aprons are still awaiting the PCBs made in China which are already long overdue

Quoted from cpr9999:

What happened - why so rusty?

The dehumidifier broke at our garage where the games are. That happened in a time frame of two weeks. I'm halfway through restoration right now, hence all the bracketry missing in the one picture. I actually just installed your decals on the stand up targets last night when I was reinstalling them

1 week later
#1205 3 years ago

So the polished plating on this game simply isn’t going to hold up over time so I Powdercoated mine and my coin door to a finish I call mega sparkle. I’m beyond pleased. If your interested contact me but first and foremost if you change your armor coated or not the side rails are on top of the decals and the decals will pull very easy off the cabinet so don’t use heat. I took a razor knife and cut

I see a Xytech engineering sample for sale here. Does anyone really know the ins and outs of how that differs from the standard ARA/current DP builds? How risky is it to take on a 1 of 3 in existence engineering sample of a game that already has limited documentation and info? Obviously Xytech won’t be of any use as far as support goes. Just curious the thoughts of the group.

#1207 3 years ago

Hmm

It’s indeed a little more risky as the boards below the playfield are totally different compared to ARA. I also suspect some software settings might be different because of these different boards and perhaps blocking future software updates on this game. This is something you should really check with Barry.

For the rest of the hardware I think they are almost if not exactly the same.

Here is another question that I'm not sure has been asked or addressed - were there any lessons learned from the Xytech experience that have informed or compelled changes to the current crop of games being built? Changes to electronics, mechanics, etc? The engineering on this game is now over 5 years old and especially with electronics, that is a lifetime.

Is there a list of known upgrades, changes or improvements between the original 50 games (and the hostage ARA games that sat for years) and the new games coming out now?

#1209 3 years ago

I am not aware of such a list, you should ask Barry.

When visiting the factory and helping I know there have been some minor changes mainly focussed on improving and quickening the manufacturing process. The cable harness towards the bowling alley runs now over a PCB which acts as a hub and same for the coindoor. I know Barry and Guus always have the backwards compatibility in mind.

I wouldn’t worry to much on this but he, that’s just my opinion man ☺️

Is it odd that two protos are up for sale right now and a 3rd was recently sold?

Personally I wouldn't want one with such different boards. At least we know the earlier ARA protos are interchangeable with current boards.

If you could get for cheap and spend $2k to convert to modern circuit boards might be worth it.

Think of project machine. Say buy for $10k. Might be worth it.

yeah i was nervous back when Xytech was going to be the supplier and that my old ARA board was going to be the rare one. Glad , personally, they are still shipping with the same electronics as I have. i also wouldn't want a xytech proto

Thats what I mean by interchangeable. With the Xytech ones you have to worry that all the connectors might be slightly different. Screw holes for the mounting to the play-field will for sure be different. You have to hope the code is still the same for future updates. And who knows what other misc brackets and loose customs bits might be hard to come by. Without an ARA TBL side by side to compare this could be a big undertaking converting it. We know the playfields and Williams off the shelf parts are exactly the same right? Xytech didn't remakes those. We can assume the cabinet is standard too.

Yeah if you got it for a crazy good price I could see doing a project. But it would be a project for sure. Currently its not priced like that.

Thx to you and Scott & Chris (Hot Rod Arcade).

Got my parts and door back together!!

Also decided it felt a bit bare inside so I added 25 cent mechs and coinbox (tight fit bit works). Now I can charge my neighbors!

Alright guys! Here are some early unfinished pics of the button mod! The pink versions (two color tones avail of the pink) are going to be a Cointaker Exclusive version, so contact her for them. Contact Matt at Backalley Creations for the other version. He should be shipping these very soon, so don’t hesitate to reach out to him.

I like the gold as it fits the theming. Does something go in that gap around the ball to cover the holes?

#1231 3 years ago
Quoted from Yelobird:

Nothing goes around the ball. The holes in that picture are on the original launch buttons bought direct from Happ. I have to enlarge 2 of the holes to clear for mounting the ball. But once it is mounted to the game you do not see those holes.

#1232 3 years ago

Here is a video showing the detail in the ball. Each one will be slightly different then the next as you can see in the pics.
Also I figure this goes without saying but just in case, the button will not light up. Even though it is a clear resin with all the pigments and flakes added to it a LED bulb lighting it up is not going to happen.

First, thanks for doing this. Also, there are many other games that use this style button, like Medieval Madness, Monster Bash - where you can make a different color if you so choose to sell for those games - fyi.

Question - how does the lens integrate with the button? Do you have a broke apart version? Just curious. I assume the version Dutch Pinball developed as a lens only replacement (prototype) may not be as strong?

The thing I do like about DP's proto version is the light coming through and the plastic ball cover fits the button a bit tighter. But heck....this is a proto version never made - so no point in pondering...

Love the concept but something about the proportion and proximity of the holes to each other just appears “off”. I wish the holes had been more proportional to the diameter of the ball to create a more realistic look of a bowling ball. Look at the mod couple mod for the little ball return balls. The holes on those are totally proportional to the ball return and the ball itself which contributes to the overall look and quality.

Looks like the finger holes are drilled in after the molding of the ball.....maybe you can get different spacing...

#1243 3 years ago

I think these look spot on for the game color. Not sure about finger holes as I’m not a bowler but I suspect when lit this will look Sweet So won’t matter! Will post pics when these arrive and Appreciate that Matt pulled this off in such short order.

Didn't Matt say that lighting it up isn't going to work as the resin is too thick? I ordered one anyhow as it looks excellent.

His "ball" is pretty thick it looks like. Look at the depth of the finger holes in the ball.
If that looks correct it could be pretty thick material to get through.....but....

I am hoping he posts the "guts" of his button (or someone does) so we can see how they are made up.

I was actually proposing to illuminate the gap around the button in the black ring for a nice effect. Won’t be tearing mine apart but if Matt wants to share how he made it that’s his call.
