Quoted from DCFAN:

It just seems like just about every successful item that sells has different options at different price points. From paper products to cell phones to cars, they all have competing of different priced products from the same manufacturers.

I think if you actually looked at it.. you'd find the complete opposite. Established price points for a market segment are common.. and customers as a whole determine 'better' based on the selling cost. Same company makes the same widget, in 3 flavors.. priced different.. and calls the top priced one premium for almost no real value difference. Vendor A establishes itself as a premium product over vendor B by simply saying they are and charging more than vendor A.

While you will see multiple price points for toilet paper.. you'll find they all usually end up in similar tiers across different manufacturers.

Look at products that replace prior models... miraculously they seem to end up similarly priced vs the outgoing model... unless they are raising ASPs. The new model will always be compared to the old... so there is heavy pressure to justify any comparisons.

Consumers expect pricing stability... not volatility.

Well I am out, so I might as well get the hell out of this thread. I am better off spending my time looking for some affordable used Sterns that are under-rated. I still need to check out BBH, Sopranos, Monopoly, Aerosmith, Mustang, etc. So many good, affordable classics. Can't waste another minute of my time on this bs.
For everyone who gets suckered into this one-enjoy it and if it makes you happy-that is all that counts. I am a man of principle and sorry but this is nothing but a cash grab. I'm out, now get me out of here.

Quoted from TreyBo69:

I agree Stern shoots themselves in the foot with pinheads and collectors when they ship before the code is feature complete, yet it's dumb to let old software bring your opinion down on the machine as it exists today. Batman 66 was shit when it came out and now it's one of the best Stern games. GotG was boring when it came out, and now it's a solid game.

Oh, no, I totally agree. X-Men is a good game now. But it's got the stink of the game they released and let languish for years.

GotG is BETTER now compared to the crap they threw out initially, but it's not what I would call "solid" yet, but I think maybe Stern thinks it's done. And since it didn't sell especially well, they likely have little incentive to improve it to an actually solid game.

The Monkees were after the Beatles. "Dumb and Dumber" reference?

Yes!

#1155 1 year ago
Quoted from vid1900:

While the Beatles are idealistic, the Monkees are cynical under a saccharine sweet glaze.

It's almost as if [the monkees] were put together by corporate America for a comedy tv show or something.

Sword and ramp designs are recycled. Also, it came after Maiden.

Also, Lil Deadpool area looks a lot like doc ock.

Yeah, it's almost like professional songwriters wrote the tightest pop songs for them.

Their debut single, Last Train To Clarksville, spent an insane 3 months at #1, probably the longest lasting debut #1 of all time.

Even the Beatles could not match that.

#1159 1 year ago
Quoted from TomGWI:

I don't know about you guys but I am waiting for the Monkees Vault edition to come out. They were a huge influence on the Beatles.[quoted image]

I'd buy that.

...and now I'm listening to the Monkees.

I'm not your stepping stone!

Another good show from that time frame is

I just don't understand the economic logic. A Beatles license, especially considering the target group of people who buy new pinball machines (35-60 yo with above average income) is the most coveted license you can ever get. ACDC, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith are all very nice but the Beatles have a gigantic lasting global appeal. No other music group or artist in history even comes close. Michael Jackson, maybe.

Comparisons with Beatles themed video games really don't make any sense. They're played by a much younger target group, completely different demographics and culture.

A well executed machine could have sold for years in much much higher volume that the other Stern music pins. If I was Stern, I really would not have cared if the license was $500 or $1000 per machine higher. It could have been destined for Addams Family sales figures.

/edit I would seriously not be surprised if Stern is taking the piss out of us and does in the end come up with a proper pinball machine instead of what's being shown now.

Why on earth would you consider this a possibility when the preview video of the machine is available?

whats funny is you cannot search for the video on youtube or on sterns page to find it. you have to already have the link.

i agree with you 100% that this is the game, but just real odd how they are treating this video. locked it down from comments and made it hard to find.

You have to admit that locking the comments pretty much suggests a lack of confidence in the reception to the game.

Stern did the perfect job for who the game is marketed towards.

1. Simple layout for older crowd. Nothing too complicated to scare away people that have not played pinball in 50 years.

2. Nothing too complicated for non-pinheads to service over the phone. I would not be surprised if you put your phone up to the speaker and it transmits the actual error-state to Stern.

3. Early, more **rocking** songs that are a good match for the pace of pinball.

4. Early, more well-liked era of Beatles. No 'bigger than God', drugged out hippies, having sex with Brian Epstein or any other nonsense. Just pure boy-band fun.

5. Muted color pallet as to create a "nice" looking game for the home; rather than an explosion of unnatural colors. Would look great in any 50's style dinner basement.

6. It may even bring in some new sales. First you buy the Beatles, then you find out there is an Elvis too!

Hardly.

It just means that no one wants to babysit the idiots that will keep posting trash forever onward.

The Ready Steady GO! Youtube video of the Beatles has comments disabled too.

Just in case you want to know that they used to be called The Quarrymen:

fair enough.

weird you cant get it from the Stern youtube page where it was posted to and linked to at the beatles store link.

https://www.youtube.com/user/sternpinballinc/videos

or if you search stern pinball beatles on youtube and get nothing...

thats pretty weird in my humble opinion.

So, complaining like an entitled toddler on Pinside because a Beatles pinball machine wasn't exactly like you thought it should be ...qualifies you as an "alpha male"? Just want to make sure I understand how that works.

Nah, no way. You're talking about the #1 selling band of all time. I've been to plenty of gigs from bands/artists who were great in the 60's/70's/80's and there were mainly older people, not so much however at the Paul McCartney concert I was at. You're seriously underestimating the size of the Beatles franchise, very few come close.

The Banana Splits was awesome! My Favorite part of the show was the "Danger Island" segments. They did 10 minute episodes with a cliff hanger at the end just like the old movievserials. Directed by the great Richard Donner (Superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon) and featuring Jan Michael Vincent.

It's funny people from that era thing think it was so massive but times change, the Beatles got 73 million viewers on Ed Sullivan. The Chilean miners got a billion viewers and fucking Gangnam Style is 3.2 billion and climbing. The only Beatles moment I remember is Twist and Shout in Ferris Beuller and Eddie Vedders cover of Got to hide your love away in I am Sam. I'm 46.

My experiences are similar to tomass. People I know acknowledge the influence and innovation they brought, but I don't know a single person who identifies as a Beatles fan.

On the other hand, I do know people who identify as Zeppelin fans, or Maiden fans, or AC/DC fans. AC/DC for example got huge audience from touring. Their popularity went way up in Canada after the 2003 SARS concert. Heck I probably hear Aerosmith come together on radio more than Beatles.

I always say my favorite Beatle is Eric Clapton.

More well-liked? Sgt. Pepper is the Beatles' best selling album. Early Beatles albums aren't even close.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_albums

The Beatles' most streamed albums also are heavily weighted to their latter period.

The songs included aren't anywhere close to their biggest sellers.

You can’t find it on Stern’s page because it’s unlisted. Maybe the Beatles store has some deal to get to be the ones who release the info. Nobody knows, but it’s not some conspiracy.

Many conservative people I know hate the latter Beatles.

They think that they became godless druggie homosexuals (yep, that's a quote).

But everybody likes the clean cut earlier Beatles.

-

Even if you think the Glory is Britney Spears best album, if were making a pinball machine.....

Everybody likes the early Britney

britneyspears-one-more-time-920x584 (resized).jpg

But many don't like the latter Britney; Glory or not.

Britney_Old1 (resized).png

So Stern would be smart to stick to the "Baby, One More Time" era of Ms. Spears, even if her best work came much latter.

#1192 1 year ago

If this pin was priced under 4500 we would all be saying how awesome it is. I don't "love" it either but if Stern could somehow figure a way to make Stern Electronics Classic SS remakes for a decent price, they could be on to a great idea for filler games, etc. People like them. I would definitely buy a NIB Quicksilver for 4500 or so and I've never spent more than 2500 on any pin. This "classic vault series" could be the best idea in a long time.

#1193 1 year ago

So the majority of you know I think this game is an absolute low life cash grab disgrace of a way to take advantage of a coveted license. Shame on Stern.

BUT

I mentioned yesterday that if the publicity helps pinball at least it's bringing in something good.

Fast forward to today and my mother and law calls me to say she heard a Beatles pinball game was going to be released soon and how exciting is that? She has absolutely no idea about pinball, never plays them yet somehow this news crossed her radar. She was so impressed how they are releasing five songs and how it's being released with three models etc. It was pretty amazing. She is right in the targeted age group....62.

Just thought I would share something positive amongst this toxic despicable release..... Haha

I think it's just because they've given the initial release exclusivity to the Beatles store. Just like stern has given exclusives to ign before... etc

FWIW, my mom liked them. I DO remember George Harrison's music videos. Back when MTV played music.

I don't totally trust the methodology there are there (Bolo Ta Ra Ra.. anyone?), but this nicely demonstrates that the Beatles largest album is smaller than those of MJ, eagles, AC/DC, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Zeppelin, a bunch of movie soundtracks and the Canadian women: Dion, Morisette and Twain.

Pfft. Let's not go that far. The games would be a LOT more complete and much more attention to detail on the LEs, but output would sloooow down.

Your latter is why Stern released it. Seawitch has more shots then most modern pins. There is 18 individual shots and if you added rules you could make a pretty complex game. The crying on here is amazing. Charmin ultra in full glory on this one. In the end , it doesn't matter. Its not my "bag" , but I bet they sell alot of them. And that is good for pinball. Non-pinball people buy strictly on theme. I always tell people...If you have a better answer; then go open your own pinball company. Because frankly the market is about as good as it gets in terms of demand, parts and resources.
