Have you considered printing the artwork/text on a clear laminate and then finding a clearcoat compatible with that laminate and just applying many (5) layers of clear? I would think that would be enough to protect the full size decal sheet, especially if you plan on waxing the clear frequently. I'd make sure you get the right clearcoat though - epoxy vs. urethanes can have significantly effects on different materials.
