Acrylic piano hinge

Brilliant.

You're too fancy for me. I had to look that up.

#1305 3 years ago

TAP Plastics. If you can't make it, they probably already have.
IMG_6321_(resized).JPG

Meanwhile, work on improving the back glass continues at a glacier pace.

Did some re-sizing and got it right this time. Now to fire up my new and improved blast cabinet...

man, looks like your 2nd one will be ready just in time for TPF

#1308 3 years ago

No no. Just the back glass I have always dreamed about for the first one. The 2nd might make it to the next Houston show.

#1309 3 years ago

So my new and improved blast cabinet is a repurposed electrical casing that was headed for the trash. A little cutting... a little welding... and voila. This. Thing. ROCKS.
IMG_6557_(resized).JPG

VERY pleased with the results. Once painted in this sucker is gonna be awesome.

TPF is just around the corner

What day are y'all coming up?
Thur or Fri?

#1312 3 years ago

WinStar on Wed, TPF around 1 or 2 on Thurs.

The idea is to sandblast around and in the verbiage to kind of highlight it amongst the LEDs and GI lights. Next I will apply an opposing stencil that helps me stay between the lines as I fill in the letters with color appropriate paints. In this case, black, white, purple and aqua.
IMG_6570_(resized).JPG
IMG_6573_(resized).JPG

The trick, of course, is knowing when to remove the stencil. Too soon and you run the risk of the paint running. Too late and some will stick to the stencil better than it does to the glass.

IMG_6574_(resized).JPG

It's a process...

Not for this project, but perhaps future. For your consideration: For the lamps that are supposed to illuminate the scoring reels, put a "shade" on them so they only shine on the reel and not directly in your eyes. And eliminate the other GI lights in the back box. Isn't that what the LED's are for?

My two cents. Prolly double what it's worth.

Dinner at Toby Keiths and free breakfast buffet in the morning with just a tad bit of gambling in between. And some drinking. Gotta start TPF off right.

Really cool idea. Looks great in natural light, but man, it'd be nice to have an even application of the paint for when it is backlit.

Someone buy this man an airbrush!!!

P.S. I bought this set a while back and have been pretty happy with it:

It was another terrific weekend at TPF for me and my 3 pins. The acrylic Super Sonic looked great with the newly painted back glass and managed to rack up 813 games almost trouble free. She went down for about 2 hours Saturday night for a switch needing adjustment. The work continues...

Any beauty shots of this thing (or maybe videos of it being played) lying around?

(Sorry about necro posting... but this was the original thread and hoping to see the big payoff at the end! I've been away for a while and remembered that I hadn't seen the end of this)

Thanks!

Nothing new, but it continues to show well and be popular everywhere it goes. I am also currently working on Part II, a Bally Golden Gate bingo machine that may or may not be ready for the next TPF in March.

CBS Dallas aired a short piece about it.

Great video and pics! Thanks again! Will this be at TPF again this year?

New for this year, an acrylic coin box full of big cheesy plastic coins! (Don't need no hassles from the man.) Also, a half apron so I can finally get the apron cards out. Or at least a smaller version thereof. I KNOW people are mad because the rules aren't posted on the machine. Anybody know where I can source an acrylic lock?

I'm pretty sure those instruction and replay cards need to be clear as well.

#1326 2 years ago

You can probably find them for much cheaper than that.

They're beginner's or training locks for lock picking.

Oh for sure etched Acrylic and lit up....you know you want to

Great job looks just stunning, but now seeing this I will be wanting to build one too. Time to be nicer to the wife...

OH, jeez... yeah, I have seen those before and it didn't even occur to me.

Quoted from BorgDog:

You know, they are a little confusing where it says "Making and STRAIGHT lites "EXTRA BALL" but then they were Spanish folk writing English instructions in the age before the internet...

As soon as I get my new blast cabinet up and running. I threw out my homemade freezer box cab. Won't be long, I need it to do the Acrylic Bingo machine.

Ahh, I finally see the thread... my girlfriend told me about this a long time ago (I didn't know you were a Pinsider until now) - she lives in Corpus, we're in a long-distance relationship. I could of sworn she said she saw it in person somewhere but it could have just been on the news, she doesn't seek out pinball or anything like that without me so I'm assuming that might have been where it was... I swore she said it was in an arcade though but maybe not.

Very cool.

I am constantly telling people they HAVE to see this thing in person because the colors do not translate well through pictures. I was wrong. Apparently, a proper camera and photographer can do it. These are awesome. Thanks!
