Not cd's, but my 401K has been booming since someone we can't discuss has been in office!!

Assuming you have a decent 401k, it should also have been booming for most of the time that someone else we can't discuss was in office (once he got finished mopping up the epic economic mess handed to him by that third someone we can't discuss).

    #902 52 days ago
    Quoted from fosaisu:

    a decent 401k

I just never trusted any of that. I hear people say theirs are up or down(up for a while now). I like rental houses. Next housing crash I hope to pick up more. I like when they go way down because of a recession or whatever, because not only can I pick more up, but also the property taxes are cheaper on mine for a while.

Another good thing about rental houses is the rent does not go down when the value goes down. I am a good landlord, I have never raised anyone's rent. If a house becomes available I adjust the price up then.

Long ago I could have been here bitching about tenants and the sorry property manager I was using, but every since I fired her and took control of everything myself everything has been awesome.

One more thing is I only buy within 5 minutes of where I live, I know others that buy way off somewhere because they found a good deal, hell no, keep everything close, traffic around here sucks.

Really? Mine boomed under the guy before him. It was doing pretty well until last winter when it crapped the bed. It’s now doing well again but it won’t matter because of the staggering deficit piling up. What happened to fiscal responsibility? Our leaders are a disgrace.

Pinball is a way more fun and a much better investment than these obsolete old things. Vinyl gives you better sound quality anyway.

Both those guys are two of my favorites since I've been alive. I judge what they say and do more than what party they go to.

I'd like to see him stick around as long as possible, but we're heading for a recession one way or another, so maybe it doesn't really matter.

Come on MOF, you left out the part "not going to get". I'm not affiliated in that regard. I edited it down anyway.

It was regarding certain men's personalities. If that is verboten too, I apologize and will refrain from now on.

It's obvious I'm not taking sides in the matter.

If you want to get technical, it would also include any talk of economics, infrastructure, or even the judicial system.

    #912 52 days ago

It's that bitch thread -- expect endless screwed-in-knee

    #913 52 days ago

    OK then.

I'm all but out of bitches for the day. Weather's great. I'm in the first day of a six day weekend, and already got a bunch of stuff done.

I guess the only bitch left is that I have to drive a half a mile to get to Habit Burger.

    #914 52 days ago

Guys that use the urinal while holding a freaking smart phone at the same time! How nasty can you be? For God's sake, that phone has to be Sally Rottencrotch's Biatch.

When I worked at a gas station, I used to have one customer that would walk up with his credit card in his mouth. He would pull it out and try to hand me the wet end.

I can drive interstate and not use my blinker more than once and not affect anyone else.

I reckon i'm saving over $300 a year in electricity not using it.

    #918 51 days ago
    Quoted from MrBally:

    BMW's are known for that.

Whether involved with them or not, in So Cal BMW drivers are probably the cause of most non alcohol or cell phone related accidents. They drive like maniacs.

    Quoted from punkin:

I can drive interstate and not use my blinker more than once and not affect anyone else.

No, these are clowns that make last second lane changes so they can get around a car and get right back into the lane they started from regardless of who they cut off. Or they are trying to get to an offramp, etc.

If there's nobody around, I don't always use mine either.

    #919 51 days ago

Aaahh, i understand. I'm usually 6-10 miles an hour faster than the traffic in my cars and better still on my bikes, so it doesn't help anyone else if i indicate after i've passed them.

If i'm making a turn and will affect someone else i use them.

    #920 51 days ago

I didn't have to drive any further than The Habit to deal with the lane change asshole.

I'm in the center lane and I see this idiot racing up behind me. I put my turn signal on and this idiot decides he wants the righthand lane now too as he starts to make his move no turn signal of course. But I'm already halfway in it before he gets there, so he flies to the left, and proceeds to come back right in front of me, no turn signal again, and then basically slams on the brakes and now puts his turn signal on so he can pull into the same driveway I am.

To quote Elton John "Godammit you're all gonna die"

I have tons of those CD's, I bought K-Tel's inventory when they went bankrupt, like 80,000 CD's. What I have left is on Amazon, seller jsindustries

It sucks all this technology came out and ruined CD sales and book sales, and for that matter has closed Blockbuster and most CD and book stores.

So, you took that investor's advice after all!

I never cared much for the sound quality on those but were better and more convenient than 8-Track. I have a few left I guess.

Money goes into Certificates of Deposit though. Got some IRAs and maybe some others riding about 3 1/4 percent for five years before they just yanked them back into 2 1/2 percent range.

When shit hits the fan again and the stock market goes into another nosedive, I'll just sit back and watch this time with a big smile on my face.

I do a lot of different investments, none stock market related. I have said it before but I just have never trusted anything about the stock market.

I do have a uncle that bought tons of Home Depot stock right when it came out. Last time it was low he was whining that he lost millions. I doubt he actually lost anything, he is smart enough not to sell low.

    Quoted from JohnnyPinball007:

I do a lot of different investments, none stock market related. I have said it before but I just have never trusted anything about the stock market.

I've watched how it works for years and studied it's history. Had some in it sorta by default before the last crash. It had been climbing steadily and I had told myself when the DOW hit 14,000 it would be time to dump. Well I didn't listen to myself and listened to others instead and watched day after day as it dwindled away. That was no fun. Not the kind of thing I want to keep up on or keep track of.

When it came back up to maybe the same or a bit more than it started, I got out, and decided that game is not for me even though I know how to use it real well. Sure it would be worth more now if I had "stayed the course" but no regrets at all for not having to think about it day after day again.

The fact that it has gone from 6,500 to 27,000 in only ten years tells me it's not going to be pretty when shit hits the fan again.

Junk calls that tell me my computer is jacked and my windows license has expired and I need to take action, when I am on a Mac.

Got that call a couple of times. The best one was a call from "Apple warning me that My iCloud account may have been hacked and that I needed to call them back at a 562 area code number (L.A. County).
    1. Apple is in Cupertino (Santa Clara County, and 408 or 669 area codes)
    2. I don't have and iCloud account
    3. The phone number that showed up on my Caller I.D. phone showed as a 562 number that when I looked it up was listed as The Apple Store in Santa
    Monica!

But the best one I had was when I got called not once, but twice (no one on the line) by my own phone number, and Caller I.D. showed my name!

.....somebody's been listening to Dave Ramsey.

I have heard of a Ramsey guy, he is chef on tv I think. Yeah, I think that is Gordan or something, but I have heard the name Dave Ramsey but I have no clue about any of his stuff.

What I do know is one of my best friends already was a real estate broker with plenty of rental houses himself and he told me to get the John Adams Landlord Survival Guide when I was firing my property manager.

I know big time rental property stuff is not easy, but when you have the right tenants it is awesome!

To each his own, we are all different and like different stuff. I really don't think anyone is right or wrong, we all just like different stuff.

When things are great I know stocks and other stuff are awesome, only downfall for me is higher property taxes. If stocks and other things tank, that is when I do good.

I just really think the stock market has been way too inflated for a very long time. Right now the housing market is way over inflated also. A correction will eventually happen, and people have to have a place to live, and that is why I like houses.

I figure if things ever got so bad there basically was no money period anywhere, I could tell my tenants to start veggie gardens in their yard, and pay me rent with some of the food you grow. I damn sure hope things never get that bad, but if they did I have great tenants that would be happy to give me some of their food for in return a very nice roof over their head. I am not a slum lord, I buy nice houses that I would not mind living in myself.

And no, I don't have a buried bunker with weapons and 5 years of food. I am not one of them.

I just personally like houses for investment, and pinball machines for entertainment.

I wish all of you the best always!

And as far as bitching, it is f-in fall, and still in the 90's here and breaking records. I am so damn sick of this hot weather.

I'm tired of Steak n Shake watering down their chili. It's no wonder they are closing up so many of them in St. Louis. Gus Belt would not be happy.

    #935 49 days ago

I was playing Centaur the other day and set off what should have been a five ball MB - lights flash five times - but there were no new balls. What would have been a million-plus game was something like 340K instead.

It was the story of my life told in a pinball game.

Twice in one week. These companies should not escorting and blocking lanes up during rush hour, especially on RT 80. Driving on New Jersey roads are bad enough without creating more danger and delays.

Freddy's Steak Burgers that just opened here in Cincy has much better burgers than Steak and Shake. I've eaten there 4 times now and each time the burger was great so I'm gonna favor them for a bit.

Steak n Shake is open 24/7 which is an advantage over some other places. When he was 12, I Took my son to one at 2:15 am Sat/Sun in Ann Arbor after a Cub Scout rock climbing event (The troop had to go there late for a group event).
A great learning experience for him to see all the drunks roll in.

Ants. Those tiny bastards sneak up and bite me more and more. And they are everywhere, no matter where I am, if outdoors I see ants and they try to attack.

Mosquitoes are pretty damn sneaky also.

    Let's see...

I hate the recent use of the word "hack".

Back in my day, a hacker was 'one who hacked', and it had a very very specific and narrow use. You "hacked into a server and stole the data." That was about it. Or if a guy wasn't very good at something, he was a "hack".

Now, "stupid little trick I thought of, and have no idea whether it's even a worthy solution" is called a "hack" by Millennials (and others) now. And these often stupid ideas are spread as "tips" on youtube.

Every time I hear it, I cringe inside...

"I used a hack on my front door knob using WD-40, and now I can get in my house."

No you f-king didn't just hack your door knob. You are a HACK yourself, because you are using the wrong lubricant to solve a metal on metal problem.
